  1. I'm not seeing the issue here. Can you elaborate?
  2. I didn't even bother but I also didn't buy the conn so I guess I'm set.
  3. Jim, when is this coming out? Did this just came in from an email from Peter Crawford? Somehow, I must not be getting his emails. Anyway, great to hear. I'll be ordering tomorrow.
  4. Thank you for the answer Mike and good to see you back. I wonder if the Select will contain some of those performances. However, there may be enough in the issued ones to fill the 3 cd allotment.
  5. I was listening to Volume 3 this afternoon and the liner notes indicated that what's in the three discs were taken from "scores" of performances between 1978 and 1979. In his liner notes, Michael Cuscuna says that "these tapes are a welcome edition to the documentation of Dexter's wonderful quartet. Hopefully, there will be more to come." I don't know if he's referring to more Keystone performances to come or performances from his quartet of George Cables, Rufus Reid and Eddie Gladden. Does anybody know if there are other unreleased performances in the can? Perhaps if so, they'd be part of the Select that will come out eventually.
  6. Hans, Thanks. I will give it a try.
  7. A Profile of Gerry Mulligan (UCCM-9123) has these tracks: Makin' Whoopee (4:03) Demanton (5:38) Duke Ellington Medley (4:27) Westward Walk (4:22) La plus que lente (3:26) Blues (8:18) Mainstream of Jazz (UCCM-9094) has these tracks: Elevation Mainstream Ain't It the Truth Igloo Blue at the Roots Lollypop The Special Edition has all the tracks you mentioned plus Westwood Walk, La Plus Que Lente (master, plus unissued alternate) and Making Whoopee, which are on Profile. So perhaps Profile plus Mainstream are two of the 3 Mainstream LP. Not having a Mulligan discography that's hard to answer. BTW, does any one have a list of or source all the recent UCCM reissues. The reason I ask is that I don't remember seeing Hiroshi post these two cds and I'm sure I would have picked up at least Profile.
  8. The logical conclusion would be that they then destroy the books and any cds leftover. If that's the case how come there have been some partials left over. I don't know if Mosaic does this any more but you could buy leftovers that way. That is the way I got my hands on one of the Hardee/Quebec discs, plus a book. For this, I am forever grateful. Not for a minute do I think that Mosaic would follow the ebay route on selling what they had left over.
  9. I have the Gerry Mulligan Mainstream of Jazz Special Edition put out in Japan in 1986, and I have been looking for the other cds but did not know they were reissued in Japan recently. I bought it a long time ago and haven't played it a while but what a sextet! I know there were 3 original lps for his Mainstream of Jazz series. Does this recent Japanese issue cover just one (or more) of the lps? The reissue I have covers the September 21 and 26, 1956 sessions, btw.
  10. What the heck, throw my name in there too. Make mine a double.
  11. Deus must be the happiest guy around. Getting a gift of jazz every day .
  12. Oops. Really sorry about that. Belated congratulations to a fellow soccer (and jazz) fan.
  13. I've been listening to this and it's very nice. It's undestated but Benny seems to be a master of this. It took me a couple of songs to get into it but once I did I really fell in with the countours of the date. What impresses me is the rhythm section, especially Jimmy Rowles. He doesn't get in Benny's way and the support he give (plus the solos he takes) are just right. They all mesh very well. Glad I picked this up.

    Happy Birthday Dex!

Did he have any view about Miles that he could pass on to John?
  15. Calling Dan Gould
  16. I don't know about Evan but I am. Send me back in a time machine
  17. Today is Dexter Gordon's birthday. His greatness and contributions don't need to be stated. They speak for themselves. So, all Dexheads report in! I'll be spinning some Dex discs today and already started by listening to some of his work with Mr. B. Happy Birthday Dex! and thanks.
  18. Another alternative is to wire the money but that might cost you around $25 or so.
  19. I'm a Mosaic addict and I really don't buy this remastering controversy. I'm grateful if things previously unavailable on cd are now available. Mosaic has put out things that you wouldn't be able to get on cd. Obviously, as others have noted, that's changing. Let's look at the Stitt set. Those masters were considered lost until discovered in London, I believe. So you wouldn't have seen those coming out on cd anytime soon. When I first became interested in jazz, I didn't know TOCJ from 24 bit. I bought the Mobley and as far as I knew those recordings were unavailable. I know better now. Another example is the HRS Sessions. Unless you have the 78s, you wouldn't have been able to listen to one of the great sets. So there's Reason Number One. Number Two, those Mosaic books are great. They usually have a great bio of the artist and then a great analysis of the music that even a non-musician can follow. Would I pick up a Mosaic if I had the recordings in TOCJ or whatever. No. I have the Chamber recordings so I haven't picked up that select. But I only had Katanga on the Amy Select so I've got that now. The sound is real fine. And I sold Katanga on Ebay. The best thing about the Selects is how the Pacific catalogue is seeing some light. So I can't think of a reason not to buy the Mosaics or the Select unless you already have the music.
  20. I have purchased a couple of things from them and they are very slow in shipping. They have some nice things at reasonable prices but man they are real slow. I bought Hamp and Getz earlier this month and it took almost the whole month to get it. They claimed that theydidn't know I had paid them by paypal. It took them almost 2 weeks to realize this and they wouldn't have unless I had bugged them about it. There is a reason why they have a lot of negatives and a lot of neutral feedback. So, if you're tempted, be prepared to be patient. They'd have to trot out something really good for me to buy from them again.
  21. The Mobley set, still the best IMHO.
  22. Except for Lon, you guys are all wet!
  23. I use to use these to pay Hiroshi and you can only get them in Dollars which was fine with Hiroshi. The USPS is not going to issue them in Yen. This was the only kind of m.o. he could use without incurring large fees. This ought to work with your seller. As an alternative, there's always paypal which pays in Yen. However, you might have to pay the fees.
  24. I agree with Jim. I'm gone. They don't like jazz too much and they believe I spend way too much (I do, but so what, it's my hobby, and they understand that).
  25. Thanks for the link. I have to agree with him regarding Deep, a person in need of help. But like most of us I don't agree with his position on not posting.
