  1. I saw that too was and pissed. It's not like they're millions of jazz fans down there knocking doors down to get to these sites. It's a very small community and I would like to think we're all one family. Well, as far as Assholes About Jazz are concerned, apparently not. So F*** them.
  2. Did you see the stupid attitude AAJ is taking about not posting Organissimo technical problems on their site. They said go to Jazz Corner. What bunch of idiots. I thought we were all big family here. F*** them!
  3. I was just trying to send a PM and got that the error message we used to get awhile ago. Hope the PM went through.
  4. I think you have to know going in that the sound quality is not good but I had no trouble getting past that. There's a lot of significant jazz out there that's not good quality. At some point you get past that and let your ears be the filter. I've only been listening to jazz for six years so to have to be a thirty year listener doesn't make sense although I don't really think you meant that literally. Anyway, this is a must set for me. "Enough Bird?" That's impossible. When you're talking about one of the three most influential figures in our music, you can never have enough Bird.
  5. All snide remarks aside, there is some wonderful music here, especially the gigs at the Three Deuces, which is in pretty good sound, and the Onyx Club. The music from those sessions is not limited to Bird's solos and is pretty darn good. If you're not a Bird-maniac and have some concerns about the sounds, there's some pretty nice cds from Uptown that are good: Bird in Boston and Bird in Montreal. I really like the Boston one. There is of course, as mentioned, the live Savoy discs, which are very good, esp. Bird's rendition of White Christmas. You've never heard White Christmas until you've heard Bird do it. There's also the Birdland material too.
  6. I'm not. I want a whole mouthful:g
  7. Is the Phiolology set still available. I don't believe so. Regarding the Benedetti set, it depends on how much of a fan you are. I think it's great but I'm a big Bird fan. If you're not, you may want to stay away. It's somewhat of a controversial box, in that respect.
  8. Either that was a subtle hint, or someone just whacked me between the antlers with a 2X4... Wouldn't they need a ladder to get up there to do it? . I hear Moose (or is that meese, and not Edwin) are pretty tall .
  9. There's a couple of those Left Bank cds: LTD and XXL. They're ok. I assume they're not including the Resurgence of Dexter, which was on Jazzland, although tha's now a Fantasy label.
  10. As couw and Hans have noted, why are we even bothering to discuss the whys and wherefores of the BNBB again. It's gone and replace something ten times (at least) better. I'm not trying to create further controversy (although it may seem that way) but I don't understand why Kevin has re-raised the issue. Is it because he's mad that the BNBB, to which he had many connections, is gone and replaced by something better (there I go again, raising controversy). Let's accept and nurture what we have here and not worry about what was and what won't be with BNE. If that makes me a Sangrey sycophant, I gladly accept the nomination .
  11. Ubu, Here's the AMG page for Blues from Kansas City and the AMG page for Complete Birth of the Bebop. I didn't know or think the Spotlite was oop. I bought this a few years ago directly from Tony Williams who owns Spotlite, plus the other Spotlites that I own on Dial: Dodo Marmarosa, Dexter Gordon and Sonny Berman. He was a delight to talk to. Perhaps they still have copies. Here's the track listing: I Found a New Baby Body and Soul Moten Swing Coquette Lady be Good Blues Honeysuckle Rose Cherokee You Say Forward, I'll March Lonely Boy Blues Vine Street Boogie Jump the Blues One O'Clock Jump (theme) Bottle It Sweet Georgia Brown Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams One O'Clock Jump Theme.
  12. To confuse things a little more, there's this from Verve, Jay McShann - Blues from Kansas City - Decca (GRD-614), which is likewise fantastic. I'll try to post tracks from these two cds (if I can) later tonight. I'm not familiar with that Early Bird Cd but there is one from Stash that I have called Charlie Parker - The Complete “Birth of the Bebop” - Stash 535.
  13. Spotlite has also put out Dexter Gordon - The Complete Dial Sessions. Although not on Dial, they've also put out Jay McShann Orchestra Featuring Charlie Parker - Early Bird, which are ecordings at Wichita, Kansas’ KFBI (November 30 and December 2, 1940), Clark Monroe’s Uptown House (1941/1942) and a Jubilee in 1943.
  14. Well, there goes a few hundred dollars. And I just picked up the latest Jazztet put out by Argo. Can anybody spell Ebay? I have some, but not all, of the Dex stuff on Prestige but the most fascinating will be the Verve box. That is mind popping!
  15. I'm with Jim and Grey on this. BNBB was nice but this place has turned into something very special, what with the Blindfold Test, the Album of the Week, etc. I don't really check AAJ and while I'll check BNE and I say a lot of familiar names over there already, this is where I like. A lot of good diversity here. Why try to reinvent something when the real thing is here. I also don't see the point of getting back into old arguments and I'm glad to see it didn't happen. I do wish that Kevin would post more here however. We can use as much information as there probably is to get.
  16. I have two cds that are copies of the lp: Sonny Stitt at the DJ Lounge and the recently reissued Sonny Stitt and Bennie Green's My Main Man.
  17. Well, I got the Gil Evans so that's about my usual quota . I don't have the Woody Shaw or Dialogue so I think that's something I'd like to check out. Plus, I'd like to listen to the Duke set. Thank you again Randy for your hard work in putting these two discs together. I'm sure it took a lot of time and care and even though I may not have been keen on everything, I always appreciate the effort you and everybody put in to make these discs and get them out to everybody.
  18. Eke, that's the one, after looking at Storyville's website. Thanks. It looks like it was just reissued this year. Chuck, it sounds like there's some of dispute there. Could you share some light?
  19. Last night before I went to bed I heard on WBGO the host playing apparently a radio transmission of a concert/session at the Empire Ballroom in 1949. They were apparently playing an extended version of Take the A Train and C-Jam Blues, plus Passsion Flower. Take the A Train had extended solos from Ray Nance, Al Killian and Jimmy Hamilton, and others and each solo was annnounced in advance by an announcer whose last name I think was Smith. Well, I had to go to bed so I never got to hear the end of this. Does anyone know what cd or cd collection this may be from. Thanks.
  20. Thelonious is a pretty cool name.
  21. Is my Mosaic in the mail ?
  22. Hmm, how do we coordinate our watches. Like one of those old spy movies? On your marks, get set.....
  23. This is slightly off the mark and maybe I'm intruding because I'm not a musician but does anyone know what the song is named after. Was there really a Dewey Square or perhaps named after Miles, since his middle name is Dewey?
  24. That's a crazy price for the Basie Studio set. That's the kind of price I'd expect to see for the Nat King Cole. I have the Live Set and I paid nowhere close to that. I would have liked to buy this set but bit by bit the music on this set is being released. So, I'll wait.
  25. Man, it's your birthday? Happy Birthday, Parrothead! And here's hoping for better health for a couple of old farts .
