Actually, Bev, I'd love to hear a disc of all British artists. I subscribe to Jazz Review and I've often wondered what some of the artists they write about sound like. I'd welcome a disc like that.

I'm sorry, but I do not agree. I think it is up to the compiler to make her/his choices. No taste is broad enough that it cannot do with a little prodding it even wider by confronting it with new things outside of it. Just another opinion... I believe we should broaden our horizons and I agree that it's up to the compiler and otherwise agree with John's thoughts but frankly what some people may choose may not be very interesting because their interests may be rather narrow. I see Jim's test quite differently because his interests are broad. Do I want to hear a cd of Andrew Hill or the like? Maybe others do. I don't. I would certainly like to hear European artists that we here in the States are not exposed to, however.

maybe our Moose can explain these...

Mark, you must have been drunk when you did those stunts -
His attorney claims he couldn't do it because he's always followed by his bodyguards. For his sake, I hope it's true. However, I don't think an arrest warrant would be issued unless they had some good evidence. Who needs a false arrest suit?

I like it. What's not to like: Sonny Red, Blue Mitchell and Grant Green. Even if you're not the hugest Sonny fan, I still think it's a good pick up.
-
It's a pain but I just type it up in Word. I had a program and didn't like it. I started doing this a long time ago and just update it every few weeks. Plus, I back it up. If I lost it, I'd been in deep trouble.
-
Same here. I'd like to know.

I'm in agreement with Dan's suggestion and would like to make one more point. When doing these, because it's going to out a lot of people, we need to appeal to as broad tastes as possible. I'm not saying the least common denominator, but just remember the audience you're targetting.

A Texan living in Germany returning to Texas. Hey, that could be a good novel . Welcome home!

Tony, I received an email from them last night, saying that they should start shipping in about 10 days.

According to the Quicksilver web site, this has been delayed until 2004. Bummer

I'd recommend A.K. Salim's Pretty for the People, reissued by Savoy a couple of years ago. You may still be able to pick it up.

I'm with Chuck on this. Separately, it doesn't take too much brains to figure out who voted no.

Frankly, I hope nobody leaves. The loss of one poster is always a significant loss. I haven't done business with uga but I'm sure he's honorable. I've done business with grey and found him very professional. I regretted it when Kevin B left (even though I didn't like what he did with his thread) and just hope nobody leaves and that we revert back to where we were.

This keeps getting stranger by the minute. Are you guys (undergroundagent and grey) related? Am I missing something but aren't these disputes that should be kept private between the two of you?
-
Enough is enough. You've dragged this guy's name through the mud for a little scarcastic language. He's apologized. Don't do business with him again. But all this for one silly little trade. Let's move on, please.

It's out of control, in my opinion. First there the Mosaics from late September, a new MJQ set, now a few more Mosaics, more Propers. HEEEEEELP!
-
I agree that the thread should have been closed because it was there for the wrong reasons but after I read the so-called offending pm, you gotta be kidding. Undergroundagent might have been scarcastic but offensive. If you want to talk offensive, look under Greg.

The Savoy reissues of the Muse catalogues are pretty decently priced. I just got the Heavy Hitter for around $10 or so, not a bad price for a nice session.
-
The first 2 Pres cds I had were Lester Young with the Oscar Peterson Trio on Verve and the aforementioned KC Sessions, which is simply awesome. So why not start there?
-
I prefer the Moose way. I like to start at the top and work my way down. I don't really use new posts because I like to look at the topics. Just because it's new doesn't mean I necessarily want to post. Sometimes in the middle of a session, I'll scroll down to look at what member are looking at what, just out of curiosity.

I may have missed this earlier but what's the view on the Pablo material: the Solo Masterpieces and the Group Masterpieces. I picked up Volume 1 of the solo last night. I'm just about finished reading Francis Paudras' Dance of the Infidels where he cites Art Tatum as being an inspiration for Bud. Ergo, my newly kindled interest in Tatum.

Dan is right. That completely slipped my mind. He's good to deal with and quick to ship, although his prices are a little more expensive but he may have stuff that other retailers don't.
-
That's like asking about the history of jazz. I especially like the Blue Mitchells, there's Bill Evans, Kenny D, some Hanks. I suggest you take a look at the www.fantasyjazz.com web site. You can see what they have. You can also order direct, at a cheaper price.

As an aside, a good example of what Mike is talking about are the RVGs of Bud Powell, Milt Jackson and I believe Monk where they didn't even include the original liner notes because they had rearranged the track listing and included or excluded songs that they believed belong to other artists.
