  1. Indeed, that is great news. But are we the only two interested in hearing some Tadd. Seems like we have this thread to ourselves.
  2. You have to really respect and love a guy who can quote Red Skelton B)
  3. For those who may not have this, $6 is a steal. They're not that easy to find.
  4. You should see someone about your multiple personalities
  5. I agree with those who say it's what you bring to the song. There's none that I would retire, especially Love for Sale. That's one of my faves, along with All the Things You Are. To cite three versions that are different but each quite fantastic, listen to Miles' version of Love for Sale, the Three Sounds and Art Tatum's. All unique but very cool in their own ways.
  6. I dig Vibes and obviously dig Bags, not so much his work with MJQ but some of his early work. Count me in for Johnny Lyttle and Lem Winchester. I've come to like Bobby Hutcherson more and more and really like the San Francisco cd that I picked up a while ago. I happened to see a vibist by the name of Steve Nelson last night as part of the Dave Holland Quintet. I looked what I heard. Vibes just happen to have a certain rythmic almost relaxing quality that I can't put my hands on. Anyway, I'm a fan.
  7. Jim, Did you ever get mine. If not, please add to the list. Also, I'd be glad to help with some distribution here on the east coast.
  8. Haven't seen mine yet and I'm only a state away. Any mention of possbile new sets down the road?
  9. Today is Coleman Hawkins birthday and WKCR is having it's annual birthday celebration for him where it's nothing but Coleman until midnight tonight. I've listened to it before and really urge you to give it a listen.
  10. Dan, Can you ask about his reminisences of some of the major artists of the day whether he worked with them or not. Something like a quick word association game. You give the name of the artist and what's the first thought that you have. People alluded to his competing with BN but these were independent labels so I'd be curious about his recollections of trying to compete with the big labels and what he had to do to survive and did he and other indies try to coordinate efforts to more effectively compete with the big boys. BTW, if Cadence or Jazz Review aren't interested, what about AAJ. I'd certainly pay to see a transcript, regardless. Obviously, a big CONGRATULATIONS!!! is in order.
  11. I assume you were referring to the Stanley the Steamer date? That's available on Affinity, although I don't how easy it is to find.

    New Lord cd rom

Come to think about it, Mike, you're probably selling it is illegal. Lord probably only grants a license to use the material in the cd rom and my guess is that it's a non-transferable license.
  13. How about that cd set that they put out for the Ken Burns Jazz set. It's a good mix of everything from Louis to the present day. It'll give her a flavor of what makes us all so nuts.

    How much?
  15. I think it depends upon how much you're into Dexter. If you're a dexhead, yes, you want to pick this up. If not, I suggest just his 40s work, Blue Note and some of his Steeplechase live and studio material. However, there's not a lot of Carl Perkins available, so just for that reason, I think it's a worthy pickup. Another good one from this period is Daddy Blows the Horn.
  16. It ain't no ball of wax sometimes but when my son (who is 12 goes on a sleepover; now there's a misnomer if I ever heard one because no one get any sleep ), it's very quiet around here. I just can't imagine what it will be like when he finally goes off to college. It'll be strange. At this point I can't remember what life was like before he was around.
  17. I was doing some research this evening on Bud's song "Bud on Bach" and I got a hit on this site. What was startling was that their software or architecture looks like just the old, old BNBB of around 2000. One of the moderators has posted some interesting articles on there, including one by Harvey Pekar about Bud. But there was an interview with Sonny Rollins. It's devoted to fostering jazz in Lebanon and while it doesn't have many members (176), it's refreshing to see that someone is trying to do something for jazz in Lebanon.
  18. I haven't noticed anything today at work or tonight at home. Seems like it's working normal. Maybe the problem was fixed.
  19. A couple of favorites from Fantasy: Tiny Grimes with Coleman Hawkins (Prestige) and the Coleman Hawkins All Stars, both from the '50s.
  20. Actually, Bev, I'd love to hear a disc of all British artists. I subscribe to Jazz Review and I've often wondered what some of the artists they write about sound like. I'd welcome a disc like that.
  21. I'm sorry, but I do not agree. I think it is up to the compiler to make her/his choices. No taste is broad enough that it cannot do with a little prodding it even wider by confronting it with new things outside of it. Just another opinion... I believe we should broaden our horizons and I agree that it's up to the compiler and otherwise agree with John's thoughts but frankly what some people may choose may not be very interesting because their interests may be rather narrow. I see Jim's test quite differently because his interests are broad. Do I want to hear a cd of Andrew Hill or the like? Maybe others do. I don't. I would certainly like to hear European artists that we here in the States are not exposed to, however.
  22. Mark, you must have been drunk when you did those stunts
  23. His attorney claims he couldn't do it because he's always followed by his bodyguards. For his sake, I hope it's true. However, I don't think an arrest warrant would be issued unless they had some good evidence. Who needs a false arrest suit?
  24. I like it. What's not to like: Sonny Red, Blue Mitchell and Grant Green. Even if you're not the hugest Sonny fan, I still think it's a good pick up.
  25. It's a pain but I just type it up in Word. I had a program and didn't like it. I started doing this a long time ago and just update it every few weeks. Plus, I back it up. If I lost it, I'd been in deep trouble.
