  1. I was getting ready to head out for my PT session (foot) when I received a call from my therapist: he has Covid. His wife is also a physical therapist in the largest hospital in our area and she has it as do several of her colleagues so he may have contacted it from her.
  2. Looks like some of the paintings sold although two are still available.
  3. This album was a revelation for me. In his book Mark Stryker has a chapter about them and the Strata label (that Cox and the group’s trumpet player Charles Moore formed).
  4. All thanks go to Marc Myers. Yes, I really enjoyed it. Learned a lot about the B3 itself.
  5. That’s too bad. I may have to pass on it if it’s that poor.
  6. A legendary coach and the best football announcer there was. RIP.
  7. Marc Myers, in his Monday edition of JazzWax, has provided a link and password to the above documentary. The password is good until New Year’s Day. The article also contains links for donating for watching the film and buying a DVD. Jazz Documentary: Killer B3 (2013)
  8. I liked the Gitler books. Jeff Gold’s book, Sittin’ In, gives a flavor of what the club scene was like. The book was extensively discussed here. I liked the book.
  9. Eight or nine times is a lot.
  10. I have those. Probably time for a re-listen.
  11. Merry Christmas to all. Hope it was a happy one.
  12. And I want to read the LaBarbera book next!
  13. The link is to all Hipp items on eBay, not just the paintings, which I see. Here is a link to one of them https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ink-Watercolor-Drawing-Horace-Silver-by-Painter-Jazz-Pianist-Jutta-Hipp-Signed-/284581512364?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m2548.l6249&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0 If you scroll down and click on the seller’s other auctions you can see the other paintings he’s selling.
  14. Currently reading Mark Stryker’s book.
  15. I haven’t played a lot of his music lately. If I’m reaching for some soul jazz, it’s more likely to be Lonnie Smith, Brother Jack or Groove Holmes. That being said I played Six Views of the Blues lately.
  16. Ted Gioia published this story yesterday on his Substack blog. The Final Days of Bill Evans
  17. I listened to this one awhile ago.
  18. Did you bid on anything. Some of them went for high prices.
  19. Oddly enough I’ve never heard this album before and just now played a few cuts on YouTube. Liked it although maybe not enough to probably buy a copy.
