  1. Sonny was always ready for a duel. Like the comfort reference. Just don’t get the mathematics reference. That almost says he did it by formula, by rote. That’s not Sonny, to me, unless Hutch meant he had a formula and stuck to it.
  2. Awhile ago I did some research on John Board. Couldn’t find a ton but did come across his obit. He was a graduate of famed DuSable HS and had a varied career. JOHNNY BOARD, 70; BLUES, JAZZ GREAT ON TENOR SAXOPHONE
  3. Tune Up and Constellation was my introduction to Sonny and what an intro that was! I found all his Muse records to be of high quality. Of course, not everything else was. One of my favorite Sonny records is At the DJ Lounge, an example of his playing with a local band. Maybe sometimes he went through the motions but not that night.
  4. At the end of the day Barcelona spent unwisely and it just wasn’t sustainable; the reason they find themselves in this position is they haven’t been able to reduce debt sufficiently. RM are in a similar position but they’ve made some improvements in their balance sheet.
  5. Sorry to hear that. Back in 2016 we had to put to sleep — really hate that term — one of our cats. It’s always a terrible experience. Had to do it with my late Mother’s cat this year. She had gone blind and just went downhill fast. I still feel awful. The one sure thing is none of us are around forever.
  6. I don’t know about the copycat thing because I thought that on tenor he had his own style. Could it be that he tended to play a lot of standards and tried and true material? There’s that great story about Alfred Lion freaking out when Sonny and Dexter playing standards at a session. At any rate, his Muse recordings are some amazing stuff.
  7. It takes awhile to go through his listings but definitely worth it.
  8. Thanks. I purchased this rather inexpensively from an eBay seller named funkyousounds, who from time to time lists a lot of jazz in pretty good condition. He’s generally accurate in his grading. Right now he’s listing rock but every few weeks he lists about a thousand jazz LPs.
  9. Good luck. Difficult situation when you’re far away.
  10. Probably because they’re selling out anyway so what do they care. I don’t purchase a BN record (assuming it’s one I want) if there are problems with them. There seems to be a lot of problems with the Classics series.
  11. You forgot Neymar. Having Pepe join them would be perfect.
  12. That IS a great story. It would be perfect for one of those “want to get away?” ads.
  13. His Mosaic was a revelation to me. Highly recommended if you can find it.
  14. The front runner appears to be PSG, with Chelsea a possibility. Guardiola dismissed the possibility of signing with Man City.
  15. Isn’t that the point of his post?
  16. There’s a difference between greatest and those who changed the music and you could argue about that endlessly. Armstrong changed the music but did Bix? Marc Myers probably sees him as coming out of Armstrong and Keith Jarrett as coming out of Bill Evans and so forth. Ultimately, it’s just one of those list that people debate but just one person’s opinion. As far as the last 50 years goes, is there anyone who has altered the music in the way that Bird, etc. have? I’m merely posing the question, not making a judgment.
  17. Barcelona’s financial troubles have finally come home to roost as they’ve had to cut ties to Messi.
  18. Probably because people are dying’ to get some.
  19. 914-478-1767. That’s the number of the Westchester Hills Cemetery. They’re awaiting your call.
  20. You’re making me blue. What is your question. They apparently have veto rights over the use of the songs and don’t want to give permission.
  21. Spain beat Japan today 1-0 on a goal by Asensio (of Real Madrid) in extra time to advance to the final against Brasil Regardless of the outcome a good summer for Spanish football.
