From what I have read Liu’s assassination was a result of his bio of Chiang, not the Seagrave book, which was very good.

I received my set (cd) a few weeks ago and have been slowly going through it. Disc 6, in my opinion, is the best so far, with Neophilia, Nommo, Peyote and Absolutions. This is the third and fourth sets on Saturday, July 10 and Mabern is just killing it. Outstanding.

I think it might have been in the late 90s but he broke down and analyzed Slim’s Jam in minute detail. I think he did this over two or three shows, if my memory is correct. It was fascinating and absorbing. Maybe it was too minute but I didn’t think so; I learned a lot from him.

He played with Bird on the Ko Ko sessions from November 26, 1945.

In 2017, the tape was discovered in the estate of a film crew member, and after several years of research, Blue Note Records in the U.S. has now released it worldwide.”

The last time I was there a few months ago the Jazz section wasn’t great. I think the pandemic has hurt them.

Good ones although my favorites are Dameron and Fats. I enjoyed the Quincy one. He doesn’t get his due in jazz.

A really sad day for me. His Bird show was invaluable in my jazz education. He will be sorely missed. Thank goodness we have the tapes of the shows.

Another is The Rolling Stones, Now! because it contains Little Red Rooster (I think still the only blues song to hit number 1 in the UK), Heart of Stone and Mona (the Bo Diddley song, although my favorite version is the Quicksilver Messenger version).

Things that are listed as All Sold Out or OOS in the BN store come back in stock. As to the Lighthouse LP set, since it’s said to be limited I’d be surprised if they make additional copies beyond the amount they said they’d produce. If they do, fans might be up in arms.
