  1. Now THAT sounds like last year's Micheal Young. Sorry.
  2. Last night's Elementary. Some episodes are better than others and none have been less than very good.
  3. You mean like the Marshall Royal side w/Gordon Jenkins? I'd be curious to hear this, just because of Procope's distinct tone. But not sure if I'd want to pay too much for it...
  4. In a perfect world, there would be a YouTube clip of the Score commercial with Bake Turner singing "That's The Score" to the tune of "Hold Me Tight" while at least one mermaid looked on.
  5. I would be the last person to discourage anybody from seeking to expand their horizons through the goodwill of fellow board members. The only consideration requested by the board regulations is that such seeking be conducted as discretely as possible, and, if any deals come to be made, that they be made privately (it would be my personal preference to use email/IM/etc., not even the PM function, although I know of no rule that would prohibit that). This board is a great place to meet people and to have your horizons expanded, but it -this part of the board - is a public place. So all private matters should be handled accordingly. A general, discrete initial "Looking For" post is certainly suitable for public display, as is any/all discussion about the item itself. But once you enter the realm of "dubs", or anything that implies the solicitation of an unauthorized copy, that should be in a private setting. Public/Private, proceed accordingly, that's all you gotta do.. Thank you for your understanding, sincerely. I trust that the matter has now been dealt with to everybody's satisfaction and that we can now return to our regularly scheduled programming. And once again, good luck to you in your quest!
  6. Just use discretion in your language. This is a very friendly group with (mostly) keen comprehension skills in the realm past the literal. Most understand what "I'm looking for a copy of XYX" or LF: XYZ, any format" means. Nobody's looking to discourage (and definitely not to ban) the consensual trading of copied material, just the blatant solicitation thereof. That line had not yet been crossed, but I had a complaint, reviewed the post, and decided that this was as good a place as any to draw the line (or more accurately, show where the line is) Ffor the record, the post in question did not cross the line, but it did define where the line is, So it's all good, as is. And again, good luck on your quest. Seriously.
  7. Please note that this is about as close to being an explicit solicitation of an unauthorized copy of a commercial product as can be tolerated. Such solicitation is against forum policy and can result in editing or deletion of posts, or even entire threads. Going forth, discretion, please. And good luck on your quest!
  8. Wow...it's not just the buyers who are jokers... http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00032G1S0/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new
  9. Kinda mean...but kinda true too...
  10. The banana slicer jokes got me: Sliced beer! HA! and this one should be sold to a standup somewhere: HELLO! indeed!
  11. Please, oh please, somebody notify me when they parody this one. I am so more than ready.
  12. Monitor inbox jacked up for some reason. Need to call support. I got this groovy Jon &Dar cut wearing a hole in my hard drive!
  13. Some questions about some very interesting selections: How did Dave Bartholomew sound so much like Charlie Shavers? What caused that The Movers cut to have the on-again/off-again reverb that had me wondering if this was a DJ-type thing. That's some wack shit! Still not totally impossible that it's Johnny Beecher on the Willie Mitchell cut? Studio dates can yield some surprises, what with business working in mysterious ways, and this SURE sounds like Plas Johnson to me. but, not necessarily, apparently? Was Sherman Williams female, or was that just a bad hair day? Do I have that Clifford Jordan album since the late 1970? Yes. Have I ever paid that particular cut much attention? No? Grady Tate, eh? OUTSTANDING! His voice has, understandably, deepened in tone since the stuff I have, and he's "pronounceably" more Eckstine-ian, all of which are working to his favor here. In fact, my original impression of a "post-Liberation Eckstine" rings even truer now that I know it's Grady Tate.
  14. Glad to hear that. I hope he continues to do well. It got really fashionable around here over the last few years to bash Face (even when he was having that Get On My Back And Just Ride 2011 season), and yes, he was getting older, slower, and yes, there was new blood that needed the playing time, and yes, his occasional temper tantrums were a little unbecoming, but still - Michael Young is a player, and for a looong time, he was THE player on the Texas Rangers. It's in his blood, the being a player thing is, and for me, it always sucks when you have to let somebody like that go, especially one with a real legacy with the team and yeah, you wish them well going forth.
  15. When it comes to pancakes, I'm strictly a stuffer.
  16. Pancakes end up tearing at the very fabric of my trousers. Eventually.
  17. Not just Muse, mind you, but Muse and Savoy, since they're now under the same ownership.
  18. Not an entirely unreasonable conclusion, imo. But that was the song that I remember being highlighted in some Rolling Stone cover story that seemed to me at the time to be at or near the beginning of the "appreciation" of George Jones outside of the non-Country audience, and you know how that goes...
  19. Looks like the Muse/Savoy catalog is under consideration, with Bill Barron & Hank Jones "high on the list". Here's to hope!
  20. How is Philly liking Michael Young? I checked his stats last week and they looked good, but stats can lie (or at least deceive...). I really hope he does well there. It was time for him to leave here (out with the old, etc.), but, hey, Face Of The Franchise and all that, and for good reason.
  21. I guess it would be too obvious to nominate any Wayne Shorter presentation from the last 25 years or so, since the composer and the performer are the same person. But still... By the same token, Steve Coleman's work, post-RCA, has become quite organic from a "whole band" standpoint. The earlier work often had a "still getting into it" thing sometimes...but no more.
  22. Only thing close to that happened when I put a disc in the player when there was already one in.
  23. Where the wise guys used to eat.
  24. Sometimes I remember things one way, then it turns out that, upon revisiting, no, not like that at all. This is not one of those times.
