  1. Thanks, missed the thread before. The name looked familiar, so I checked and SO plays on the Shintaro Quintet Evolution album, which was the first CD I bought on my relatively recent J-jazz exploration. But I've heard nothing else, so will listen to what I can find online.
  2. I googled and it appears to be some kind of development/refinement of surround sound, binaural, Dolby Atmos, .... But it didn't seem clear whether special devices (headphones, amps, multiple speakers, ...) are required. I didn't have time to investigate further.
  3. The collar looks similar to the one on the San Francisco cover, which I'd call a pale tan color. The turtleneck on the Inner Glow cover is yellowish but seems to be a different weave.
  4. That's a great offer on the Ra book. If I wasn't in a downsizing mode I'd go for it. 😞 And Face of the Bass is an excellent seller.
  5. David Snell plays on this, which is a nice album:
  6. Noticed this late (independent of this thread, only last night). Picked up the Noah Howard and Jym Young. Beyond the Freedom[/Muzak] series and in more straight-ahead mode, there are a whole bunch of attractive Japanese reissues also on the Muzak label. I went for Dusko Goykovich Swinging Macedonia (w. Nathan Davis, Mal Waldron) and Dusko Goykovich w. Tete Montoliu Trio Ten to Two Blues. Could have purchased a lot more, but held back due to recent overspending. 😶
  7. Shortly after publication, I managed to borrow a copy (Doug Ramsey's Take Five Desmond bio) through interlibrary loan. Probably came from the Binghamton, NY area (which is in my "Four County Library System"). But I just checked and it no longer seems to be available. It is well worth a read, and also a very attractive coffee-table size production.
  8. Finishing the Hemphill / New World box started yesterday. This is a favorite!

    Spiritual jazz

This one (or the LP equivalent)? I really enjoy it. But releases in this series (in CD at least) sell out and go oop quickly, so it's the only one I have.
  10. And rightly so...
  11. I haven't had a turntable for many years. Would get the new release in other media if available.
  12. Thanks! Didn't know of that one either. More aesthetically pleasing, pity the clip isn't in better sound.
  13. For obscure reasons I wanted to find a video (with lyrics) of a song about The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Found this, which I hadn't heard. Despite the AI images, weirdly interesting mixture of high and not-so-high culture. 🙂
  14. Two outstanding albums
  15. BGO reissue, release not yet on discogs. Another
  16. This might be interesting. Sep. 6 release on BBE, recorded 2019. Some piano/drum duets, some quartet selections. No clips yet on bandcamp.
  17. I found a copy of this earlier in 2024..."The Bastards" had a lot of Ted Daniel recordings in stock for a while. It's pretty cool, though different from the other recordings mentioned in the thread.
  18. Cheapo ZYX release of the Complete Group Masterpieces
  19. Listening to this on a whim and got a big surprise (jazz-rock funk rather than piano trio 🤣)
  20. There's a very positive review here that doesn't mention sound quality. The Dusty Groove blurb mentions that "...The tape of this performance that survived is a bit thin, [but the magic of the music really comes through as you let your ears open up]...", which is no surprise, based both on my experience with other Ujamaa recordings and on general principles re. surviving loft-era tapes.
  21. "Synthetic" Andrew Hill: all the single Blue Note CDs that were collected for the Mosaic.
