  1. The discogs page you linked to had a video link (as they often do, right margin). It be excellent! And on the Satori label to boot! Also, you recently posted a Where the Boys Are clip Dialectic Jazz that had some funny speechifying.
  2. This one is OK, though the text is kind of "rural Americana" rather than any kind of social message.
  3. Good point. I find the ezz-thetics reissue program weird in several respects. To be honest, I never thought of "to" in the inclusive sense, given that many of the packages prune tracks from the component albums. 🤔
  4. I just checked, and the ezz-thetics (née Hat) ...Revisited seems to have all the tracks from the 2 albums, 6 from Three for Shepp and 5 from Gesprächsfetzen, which is better than usual for them. But since I have an Impulse! Three for Shepp I'll risk the sound quality of the Moosicus and get a full extra album.
  5. Unusual venue (pizza restaurant) and very local, but still might be of interest in the Hudson Valley area: https://www.facebook.com/events/295968503559899 Celebrating 10 years of presenting Jazz at Catskill Mountain Pizza Company, [Rich] Syracuse/Siegel will host old friends Erica Lindsay and Francesca Tanksley (aka "The Jeff "Siege" Siegel Quartet). Decades of playing together has given the group a unique sound and energy.
  6. There are quite a few more. I have 3 good Enja albums, Common Cause, Dream Bells and Overcome. Discogs shows several more on L+R and other labels: https://www.discogs.com/artist/130589-Attila-Zoller
  7. The world of VC-based startups is rather murky and opaque, so genuine info will probably be scarce. Most lawsuits get settled out of court, so I doubt we'll ever see the facts that would be publicly disclosed in a legal proceeding. Looks like the board consisted of three (now-departed) corporate officers plus four unspecified people, some of whom likely (IMO) were major investors. There's obviously been friction for a long time, because the 2021 factory expansion plan passed by only 4 to 3.
  8. 🤣 It's apparently a private company (in the "Seed" stage, whatever that is), so it's probably difficult to ferret out financial info. I doubt they'll be going public any time soon... Best I could find quickly was at https://tracxn.com/d/companies/vinyl-me-please/__tCASgzFrctXKdvB9ggz_0ua8H-kvbRWq47CFTJf0E74 I'm not sure what "The Company" means, who the board members are, or just who is filing the lawsuits. My guess for the latter two would be the biggest investors. The one "institutional investor" named is FirstTracks Ventures, a VC based in Denver.

    Tyshawn Sorey

Looking at Sorey's own website https://www.tyshawnsorey.com/in-the-news the recent (last 2 or so years, say) focus seems to be on composition. I don't know enough to comment on whether his pace has slowed.
  10. He sure makes a truckload of records (I am a fan, btw). It sometimes does seem like all of them. 😁 I imagine most of us have favorite local bassists who are "obscure" or not very well known nationally/internationally. For instance, I think Michael Bisio (Kingston NY, Hudson Valley area) is very good. Even though he's made or appeared on many recordings, I doubt he's a "big name". Joe Fonda (I think Hudson Valley area, but am not sure) also comes to mind, but I doubt he's "obscure" due to his work with Braxton among other things. I was also underwhelmed by that one Ware CD, although I like every other recording of his that I've heard.
  11. Hope it was good. Would have run too late for me given work schedule, so I chickened out. Will definitely be at Lace Mill the 19th.
  12. I have six of the 11 albums and will pass. I'm willing to forego the extra tracks and would rather accumulate the rest of the individual discs than get another bulky box and deal with the duplication. Another factor is budget. All kinds of attractive reissues these days and it's tough to prioritize.
  13. Agreed. I played it a day or so after posting and was struck by how good it was. For some reason I hadn't listened to On Jupiter as often as a few other albums in the box.
  14. Reissues of Live Oblivion vol. 1 and 2 are forthcoming soon (claimed May 10).
  15. Wow, nice cover but surprising to see. Thanks for posting. I used to run over the Williamsburg Bridge occasionally, back in the day.
  16. The original announcement (Lace Mill Facebook) didn't include Juma, but was revised 9 days later!

    Zoh Amba

Which reminds me of the Joe McPhee / Michael Foster appearance at Tubby's (Kingston) this Sunday.
  18. Apologies for botching Mr. DiGeronimo's surname. I omitted the Di. Only excuse is that I have those albums as part of a Cam Jazz box set with attendant tiny print (album graphics shrunk to dimensions of cardboard CD sleeve).
  19. +1 on Nick DiGeronimo, a highlight of those albums he appears on.
  20. I used to buy lots of new books. But I've downsized, and hardcovers pile up on shelves and are difficult to get rid of. Nowadays my purchases are mainly used books or Kindle, unless there's something relatively exotic I find compelling. I can borrow highly publicized books or works by famous authors pretty easily through interlibrary loan. But it depends on one's field of interest. A poetry buff will likely buy many books that sell 100 copies or less, published by obscure or private presses. Ditto amateur historians who specialize in their local regions.
  21. Hadn't listened to Ra in a while, so 4 discs from Art Yard in a Box: Sleeping Beauty (this is one of my favorite Ra albums), Disco 3000, The Antique Blacks, On Jupiter
  22. Whoa, my bad. Apologies. OK, agreed the $150 price @Jimmy's is f**g outrageous. 🖕 BTW, I also checked Yoshi's in Oakland (other big name that came to mind) and prices were nowhere near that level.
