What vinyl are you spinning right now??
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez replied to wolff's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
DUKE PEARSON- it could only happen with you 1st of all this lp is audiophile quality, this lp sound quality is on par with Victor Feltman- Secret of the Andes. rvg recorded, but non rvg stamped. rvg, i think, made this sound like one of his CTI records, it sounds incredible, very clear sound, its not all compressed and maxed out like some art blakey bluenote, its almost light a straight pass of the master tape. has this ever been issued on cd, wasnt there a duke pearson box set at some point? well i cant believe it never got an early stand alone issue, its a great, modern work, it really one of pearsons most cutting edge projects. so blessed i finally found a copy of this, but i never expected the SQ to be so good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmebAvTy6zI -
think how this might relate to his musical style: he was the kindest, most honorable person in the biz. hank was a really good person, never wronged no one

not spinning it, but its not a 'great find' either....lol @ boris rose ''completely selling out'' lol- he also has some judy garland releases too. i dont know about you, but i definetly find multiple lols in that, that the same guy who releases bird at cafe society 1950, twenty-minute version of lover come back to me, released something so "pop". -
RIP, saw him only once, at a private gig, ive only been to like 3 weddings in my life and this was one of them, he rocked that town, played mostly alto sax, on alto sax he sounded like paul desmond, was really good.

ive always wondered how he got involved w/ the Schuller 3rd stream orchestra usa stuff. dolphy is so far beyond that stuff. i guess in his musical story, thats his "going fusion" -

Sets you wish Mosaic would do
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez replied to vibes's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
i would like to see mosaic do a set we just cant get in 1st pressing album-form. like jsngry said a rare live material set.... i guess my dream set would be a 10-cd / 12-lp mosaic set of unreleased blue note outtakes. my ultimate set would be, say a few select blue note albums, but the complete session tape: as it happened, take, after take, after take. -
RIP. this is so sad and horrible. ill be spinning an orig copy of 'mucho calor' in his honor

i dont think ive seen that cover photo, so this is a comp? -
it seems more times than not, when i see a series of shows on a thurs-sun run, the same set will be played,-- ive always thought maybe musicans were trying to 'hone' the set or sometin, like trying to perfect it.-- i know in the old days that wasnt always the case, like if you saw bill evans live and the VV or something.... do you have experiences with hearing the same set night after night, and maybe reasons why your band you saw, was doing that?

eddie harris silver cycles (atlantic from 1969) in mono! its a folddown and im sure the stereo sounds way more open, but it does sound a little like how it would of on the AM radio, and that makes it great---- i can see why the houses of the holy and exile on main st atlantic mono promos fetch big money on ebay, the eddie harris was only 5 so it was a deal -
