Jazz Artists offering dl's of their own shows
Van Basten II replied to Tom in RI's topic in Miscellaneous Music
What makes the Frisell so tasty is the fact that they are offered in the lossless format instead of the freakin mp3 . -
Just added it up on your recommendation. Just back from the bar seeing a fine boxing doubleheader Mares-Perez and Vasquez-Marquez IV

Goooooooooooooooooooooooooool

After a rather unspectacular first half, the second half of the Champions League final has given us a few pleasing moments for the eyes. Milito served a nice cup of coffee to Van Buyten for the second goal. -
Mr T WH Fields BJ Surhoff (When I was kid I used to find cool his first name, liked the idea of being known by two letters but nowadays being less innocent, can't help but being disturbed by the choices of letters and what the acronym can mean)

What live music are you going to see tonight?
Van Basten II replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Saw Kurt Eiling in a church tonight, nothing mindblowing but a well executed show. -
It's summertime and the whole music festival business is about to start. On the negative side the off-festival which featured gigs of local artist and some out-of town players was moved away from the usual late june spot. Reason being is the the big festival starts early around june the 25th. Don't know what will happen to the outside venue as the streets where it is taking places look like Beyrouth after a bombing. Other casualty from this early date is the Suoni which used to cover the whole month of june has been shortened up a bit. Still a lot of interesting music from both festivals this year. Although if there is some criticism to give to the Suoni is that they now seem to rehash the same musicians from the other years, but that's a minor negative. Now let's see what's in the schedule among the most jazz related shows of the Suoni. The 10th offers us the come back of one of my favourite current rhythm section with William Parker and Hamid Drake with sax player Kidd Jordan. The next show noteworthy is the Mathew Shipp trio his sidemen are Whit Dickey and Mike Bisio that is taking place the 15th. Next day is the Vandermark 5 On the 19th Evan Parker is in the house leading a quartet with Gerd Dudek, Axel Dörner, & Christof Thewes The following day we have the Globe Unity Orchestra The marathon keeps on going with a third show in three days this time the priincipals are Alexander von Schlippenbach with Rudi Mahall & Paul Lytton Finally the Suoni ends on a bang two days later the 23rd with Dutchmen Eric Boeren Quartet with Han Bennink, Michael Moore, & Wilbert de Joode http://www.casadelpo...ontents/node/76 Will do later on a rundown of the regular festival, stay tuned

Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?
Van Basten II replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Finishing the Quincy Jones acquired from the latest Mosaic sale, entertainment wise it rates an A. -
Finished it. Was sad learning that the author killed himself, read two books of him, the other being Big trouble and he could sure tell a story. Heard little prior to reading this book about busing. To resume this book, I would say the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Next book is Never read him before, have started picking up what I can find from him at the used bookstore, will start with this one, as the jacket says the first stories are a bit Orvellesque indeed, any other recommendations ?

We've Heard About Your Buying - What About Your Listening?
Van Basten II replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous Music
As long as I'm at home, and it's a reasonnable hour between 9 am and 9 PM and am not doing anything that requires me listening , like watching a movie or something along those lines, there is music on the background, I priorise my listening first by CDs I bought at used stored then stuff I bought new and when everything has been listened at least once, then it's miscellaneous stuff depending on my fancy. I don't use headphones and unfortunately at work I have to endure the crappy music radio repeating the same boring shit every day. -
How Would You Describe Your Music Collecting
Van Basten II replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Still roaming the used CD stores around my place, buy about 3 to 4 titles in average by week (it used to be around 7 to 8 titles a week !), without counting the titles I get from buying the web when there is a great deal around.(the only thing that prevents me from buying more are the silly shipping fees) Will on rare times buy music from new cd store if it's on sale, mostly pop music because Jazz music is rarely sold cheaply. My collection is all over the place, jazz remains the main constituent whether it is current or "old time" but other genres (French music, pop, rock, indie , country/folk World music and soundtracks) are about 50 % of the population. As I am getting older, have less and less interest for pop music but on the other hand I take more time in the World music section. I don't really have a have it all fetish, but if music is available at a good price I will pick it up. -
Needless to say that people here are going crazy .

Saw another fine gig with the David Binney quartet, gave a lot of playing time to his fine sidemen, check out drummer Dan Weiss ! Man, does Binney loves long pieces , he played 7 pieces that lasted more than two hours. Only negative was the sonorisation , little tip to those planning a trip to Montreal L'Astral is just not a great venue soundwise For those interested, there were tapers and you can find it if you want to look for it. -

1. Are you sure these are legitimate emails sent through Facebook and not attempts to phish your personal info? 2. Can't you just filter these emails or report them as spam so they go into your spam folder in the future? Repeated, unwanted, unsolicited email is practically the definition of spam. Answer 1 It's possible, never cared to check them out Answer 2 This is exactly what I did. -

What bugs me is that despite never registering on it, I have people that I never heard of are asking me to join the site -
A very classy lady, a very classy singer and a very classy artist, thank you Lena.

Saw Cindy Blackman playing an hommage to Tony Williams called Another Lifetime. A bit too rock for my liking, ended up with damaged earing and a headache, as the sound was on the too strong side of things. -
