  1. So very, very sorry to hear this sad news.
  2. Saw and enjoyed "One Battle After Another." Going to see "Blue Moon" tonight.
  3. Took a brief break from enjoying the new Mosaic Bob Crosby set to spend some time with Miss D
  4. So am I. In fact, I haven't enjoyed a Mosaic set this much in a while!
  5. Discussion on another thread caused me to pull this one and give it a spin.
  6. Got my shipment notice, but it'll take a while for it to make its way out here to the Best Coast.
  7. Getz was one of those deeply flawed human beings who played great music. Like Kevin in the original thread, seeing this has caused me to get out "Sweet Rain" and play it again. It is a very fine record.
  8. Got this one to go with the book. Started listening to it backwards with disc 4. Once I start the book, I'll go in order, but there is some very interesting stuff here that I haven't heard before. Great Cootie, of course!
  9. I just got back from a long trip (so away from the Board). Like others I was a bit confused when I saw it on the Jazz Messengers site, then very pleased to see it was real and preordered it immediately. I've loved that band for years, especially the Bobcats small group, and I'll be very excited to get the set! Now, if only they'd go ahead and do that Hampton 40s box!
  10. Star Trek Strange New Worlds. I'm a hopeless Trekker from way back, but I haven't loved the most recent iterations until this one.
  11. I'm now into disc 6 of the set. The most pleasant surprise for me has been the slow and pretty stuff. I never thought of Sanders as a ballad player, and I've especially enjoyed discovering that, especially on discs 5 and (so far) six. I'm less enthused about the fast things, especially when he starts what Mark calls (in what I agree with others are some very fine notes) "caterwauling in the stratosphere." But even there, he comes down to earth more often than he used to in the old Impulse days, and I especially enjoy John Hicks' piano. So, while I'm not over the moon like others, I think it was a worthwhile buy. Thanks to Lon and others for encouraging me to get it!
  12. Recently got hold of the new Jasmine release of Duke Ellington's Mercer recordings and put this one on the list to get at some point. Then I was down in Ashland to see some plays, stopped by the wonderful Music Coop downtown, and there it was on the shelf. I *think* this pretty well completes my little collection of recordings on the very short-lived Mercer label!
  13. I loved all of those 2-fers. I think the Blue Note Reissue Series was by far the best. Had a lot of those!
  14. Very enjoyable! Especially enjoyed the performance of "Evidence"!
  15. For many years, that was the only Roulette LP I had by Big T. I remember bugging Cuscuna constantly for the eventually issued (and much loved by me!) Mosaic set! Listening to this bit of late Bud Shank
  16. Ditto, though my corner of Oregon is a little more populated! That De Franco/Clark set is very good.
  17. What more indeed?! 😉
  18. Found this little oddity at the Paris Jazz Corner when I visited a couple of weeks back (I love that little store!). Despite some pretty short timings, there's some nice work from Hal McKusick, Al Cohn, Jimmy Cleveland, and others.
  19. So have I, but I took a very long time before I preordered this one--the very last day of the sale, as it happens. I hope it doesn't end up in the "got it to have it but don't listen to it much" pile!
  20. In the mood for a little J.J.
  21. Fun read! It caused me to take a long look at all the 78s in one of my cases. Sigh. If an entire wall full of cds is going to make my son cry some day when I depart this mortal coil, I don't even want to think about how he'll react to the 78s!
