  1. Very cool. Love me some Tubby Hayes!
  2. They continued to be friends. Laine appeared on Nat's short-lived TV show to support him. Thanks to TTK for the explanation on that label. I had no idea!
  3. Nice record, but what's the story with the super old-style Columbia label on that 78?!
  4. Lu Watters and Turk Murphy were fairly serious white players in the revival--so serious the music can sometimes sound like it was collected for a museum--but Good Time Jazz preserved most of their work, and Watters even got a fairly nice box.
  5. Went to see "One Life" with Anthony Hopkins. It's a weeper, but well made, I thought.
  6. In Phil Schaap's supplemental notes to the cd release, Mulligan said he liked this one the best of his "meets" albums for Granz. They do appear to be enjoying the date.
  7. That's about the right age. I have to feel like I'm 3 or 6 to like them......which I do on rare occasions!!
  8. I have to be in the (very!) right mood, but I've been known occasionally to listen to the FF+2! I recently got this one, mostly for Rosolino, but I like Bob Burgess's trombone on it too. And the sound is good.
  9. Happy birthday, Mr. Shatner! While I am a hopelessly committed Trekker, I still think his best work was with James Spader on "Boston Legal"!
  10. In the event, he proved sadly prophetic, dying at 33. What a great bassist he was!
  11. I think we may have discussed that possibility before, maybe in the first go-round of this topic. If memory serves, it would be a pretty big set, though I'd certainly be up for it.
  12. Yes, I loved that one, especially the ending. I thought all the best pic noms were good this year...well, all I've seen. Haven't seen "Anatomy of a Fall" yet.
  13. Listening to Disc "C." Sound was good on these radio transcriptions.
  14. I love movies and go see a lot of them, so I always watch the Oscars. Of course, living on the west coast helps. I record it and then can fast forward through a lot of the glop. Robert Downey had a cool speech, Ryan Gosling did a good musical number, and Kimmel was ok.
  15. Me too--and in about the same year and grade! Handed to me under a desk by a friend as if we were in a spy movie!
