Alas, Tower cancelled my Nuff Nuff order. On the other hand I picked up Makin' a Move on ebay for $4.41, incl. shipping. Guy

This is a very good album! The interplay between Cheek and Malaby is excellent, both of them do fine work here. The only other Electric Bebop Band album I've heard is Play Monk & Powell, which is totally different from this one. I'd describe it as an expanded-ensemble version of the Lovano/Frisell trio. Steve Cardenas's tune, "Balata", is great! Also... I like the trio's version(s) of "Mumbo Jumbo" better -- the one on here underplays the Latin rhythm for a more floating feel. Guy

What about the grandparents and the dog -- a package deal. Guy -
This is a very good session! Not quite on the level of his best work, but definitely worth hearing. It's on the Moncur Mosaic Select. Guy

It's not Flip's fault that his players didn't bother to show up for this series (and the Cavs series). Guy -
Devotion, My Goal's Beyond (John McLaughlin)
Guy Berger replied to Guy Berger's topic in Discography
I went back and listened to both of these albums the last two days. Devotion is alright -- the kind of music that would probably be acclaimed if it had been recorded by a bunch of German guys on acid, but a little disappointing given Young and McLaughlin's presence. On the other hand My Goal's Beyond is a classic. I think I like both "Peace"s the best, but the acoustic guitar side is nice too. Guy -
I used to love this game. Guy

Bruce -- usually before I try to post again I refresh the screen. If the post was accepted (as it often is) it will appear near the bottom of your screen. The Kings hired Eric Musselman today. I'm psyched for the guy -- he really managed to turn around the Warriors from a 20 win team to a 38 win team. (No joke.) Unfortunately his intense style rubs off poorly on players. Hopefully he won't have the same difficulties in Sac. Guy -

Agree Disagree. Likewise, Miami would have to deal with Phoenix's running game or Dallas's incredibly deep roster. Phoenix is extremely vulnerable inside to Shaq, but it's also true that if they get their running game going that exposes a massive hole on Miami's side -- Shaq simply won't be able to keep up. As far as Dallas -- they're simply a better team. They have two solid centers to pick up fouls from Shaq and a whole lot of weapons that Miami will be helpless against. If they managed against a stronger San Antonio team, then they'll do fine against Miami. Question: why don't coaches use the hack-a-Shaq or hack-a-Ben strategy more often? If I was a coach I would use them ALL THE TIME. Guy -

Not necessarily -- almost everyone picked the Spurs to win last round and I don't think anyone picked Miami, so you're losing the same points as everyone else. As of right now, the tradesports.com probabilities on each series are: Miami series victory 72.0-74.0% Pistons series victory 26.2-26.9% Mavs series victory 85.5-87.0% Suns series victory 13.3-14.0% and overall chances of winning the championship: Mavs 46.1-46.9% Heat 33.0-34.0% Pistons 15.6-15.8% Suns 4.7-5.7% -
The article strikes me as overly pessimistic. There's little if any discussion of the economics of energy. This could be really, really bad for the environment. Guy

Tim Thomas is killing Dallas. Josh Howard is doing the same to Phoenix. That last sentence was written before Dirk exploded for 19 pts in the 4th quarter. Guy -

I do. Unlike the other series, I like the teams in this one. Guy -

Agreed. At least insofar as blowing the series. They will have blown a big opportunity, though. Guy -
Unfortunately I do not own this album and am barely familiar with Bluiett but based on your recommendation I will add this to the want list. Guy

I think both Devotion and My Goal's Beyond were recorded in 1970. Which was recorded first? Guy

Overstock.com has really good prices and relatively cheap shipping. Deepdiscountcd.com is worth checking out as well. Guy

I turned it off during the 4th quarter, but I guess the game was more competitive near the end. -

Ironically this is the reverse of the Pistons-Lakers series in '04. In both cases the better team mailed in the series. Guy -

Well, let's keep in mind that the Suns are without Amare Stoudemire -- a guy who gives their run-and-gun style a lot more substance and makes them a real championship contender. If he was playing at full health, this would be quite a series. Count me as a skeptic about Miami's championship chances -- they will have a lot more difficulty against the Mavs then against a mysteriously imploding Pistons team. It's a shame that Flip Saunders will probably lose his job because all of a sudden most of his players decided not to show up for the playoffs. Guy -
So, what do you think about this album? I picked this album up recently. Nothing earth-shattering but nice. Guy
