  1. I prefer his ensemble work over the solo concerts, but that is a great set -- much better than the overrated Koln. Guy
  2. Agreed. link (we may find out the answer)
  3. Well, judging by the top 10 quantity doesn't necessarily come at the cost of quality. Guy
  4. GOD-DAAAAAAAAAAAAMN. I rush back home and come back just in time... to watch the end of tonight's 1st episode. When will these frickin' torrents get going? Guy
  5. Given the praise, I think I'll have to pick this up eventually! Guy
  6. Well, hopefully we'll find out what Horace did with those $2. Guy
  7. I will try to listen to this tonight. I remember thinking it was OK last time I listened to it, though it gets bonus points for not being run of the mill "fusion". Guy
  8. I'm going to Hawaii on Thursday (for the first time). I'll be spending 2 and a half days in Maui and 2 days in Kauai. My plan on Maui is as following: Friday: Molokini snorkeling Saturday: Haleakala volcano Sunday (have to finish early because I have a 6 PM flight to Kauai -- so I will start at 7 AM): Hana My questions are, what is a good price for the snorkeling? I have also heard that Lanai is better than Molokini. Is this true? Also, as far as Hana, what is there to see? I've googled and it seems like there is a ton of stuff. Is there something in particular that I should see? Any other tips are welcome. I was thinking of rotating the Hana trip and the snorkeling, assuming that I can finish snorkeling in time for my flight. Is this realistic? Guy
  9. I'm a little surprised that Phoenix beat Dallas today. This will be an interesting team once Amare gets back. Guy
  10. Alice Coltrane's harp adds a nice touch to McCoy Tyner's Extensions. Guy
  11. Actually, one more thing to add: normally I don't pay much attention to performers' apparel, but Andrew was wearing socks with lots of little red hearts on them. Guy
  12. Like Ron, I'm definitely glad I decided to go. It was a very good set (11 pm) -- not earthshaking, but I enjoyed it a lot. McPherson was great in accompaniment, though (unlike everybody else) I didn't go crazy for his solo. Greg Tardy was good. But the highlight for me was Andrew's piano playing. Guy
  13. I've never had any problems with the club. No personality to the place, but I agree with kh1958 that it's better than Birdland. Guy
  14. On the plus side owners of beachfront property in Oklahoma and banana plantations in New England will be very pleased. Guy
  15. Well, there's a recording from the fall of 1969 where Chick joins Jack on drums for "Spanish Key", and another where he plays some sort of flute. Guy
  16. Apparently the melting of the Greenland glaciers has also accelerated in the last few years. Guy
  17. Sweet. There's an IHOP just down Whitney Ave. Guy
  18. Alright, I am going to the 11 PM tonight. Anybody want to meet up? Guy
  19. I agree. FWIW, before the Heat beat a bunch of bad teams (+Detroit) for their current winning streak, they faced Dallas and lost by 36 points. Guy
  20. No way the Heat have a shot. The Suns and Mavs are both better teams. Guy
  21. Bob Belden is becoming the human analogue of the Cellar Door release date... Guy
  22. If it's any consolation, I also thought it was spelled "forward". For what it's worth Zawinul never struck me as heavily influenced by Horace Silver. Maybe I should listen to his playing more closely. Chick Corea, on the other hand... Guy
  23. Usually they let you catch two sets for the price of one during the week. I might come up on Saturday nonetheless. Guy
  24. "MOZART'S FORTEPIANO This instrument was built in the early 1780s by the Viennese keyboard-instrument maker Anton Walter and purchased by Mozart in 1784. Malcolm Bilson plays on a copy of the instrument for most of the concertos on the present series of recordings." The strings are 6/6/4/4/2, except in concertos 22-27 (8/6/4/4/2)
