  1. I was thinking the same thing. I imagine Qatar and Oman are much safer. Guy So it is said. I don't worry much: life's too short. (No jokes about making it even shorter.) I spend enough time in war zones and truly bad places to sweat the ill-defined threat that might exist in Yemen. Just be sure to post lots of pictures when you get back. Guy

  3. Just had this sent to me. Next up: Tord Gustavsen, The Ground; then Bobby Hutcherson, Oblique
  4. Thanks for the rec. It's more a restriction imposed by a huge backlog of 40 unlistened-to CDs than a lack of interest. However the $14 tag on vols 3 & 4 of Epitaph will be harder to ignore. Guy
  5. Are volumes 3-4 of Epitaph still in print? I have the first 2 discs on CD, dug them out for the first time in several years, and have been digging them a lot over the past two weeks. Damn good music. And is The Great Deceiver in or out of print these days? I'm not enough of a Crimson nut to get it right now (particularly not at the ridiculously overinflated price that it was selling for a few years back) but I may be tempted at some point. - Guy
  6. All I know is that when I saw Larry on American Idol last week, he was clearly faking his avant-garde farfisa organ credentials. Guy
  7. This may be spam but my doctor told me that certain kinds of spam may be good for your health and this would seem to qualify. Guy
  8. Apparently Mingus's Cumbia & Jazz Fusion is now out of print. Fortunately I downloaded the title track a while back but I've been looking for a cheap "real" copy. There's a chance that Collectables will reissue it at some point as they do with many Atlantic titles, but I'm still awaiting a reissue of Zawinul and that hasn't happened yet. Guy
  9. I've been slowly working chronologically through all his films. (Many of the Keystones were painful to watch!) The Circus is going to arrive from Netflix today, and then it's onto City Lights & Modern Times). ← I found The Circus painful. Not one of his best moments for me. ← I just watched it and thought it was enjoyable. Certainly not painful. Now, watching one of the early Keystone films with the heads cropped off & terrible acting/writing, that's painful. Guy
  10. Hopefully only after they reissue all of the stuff that's out-of-print. This one is readily available. Guy
  11. In Chicago, seeing things more clearly than most here. ← I'm digging the EYE, Chris. Guy
  12. Allen, Just put him on your ignored users list. As far as personal attacks... I don't think what Clem's done has yet crossed the line in terms of the board rules, just in terms of good taste. That said, these kinds of catfights are annoying to the rest of us. Can't people carry them out via PM? Guy
  13. Sorry Jim, had to bump this for posterity. I guess if you're going to have an 8-0 start snapped, you might as well do it in style. Yikes. Though to be fair to Detroit, it lost to one of the five or six best teams in the league playing on their home floor. At least it wasn't the Bobcats. And better to lose one game by almost 40 points than to lose 5 games by 8 pts apiece. We'll see the Pistons revert to their winning ways next week. Guy
  14. Alright, decided to forgo the Pullen/Adams Mosaic Select for now and sprung for Dance, at the price of $22.50. Looking forward to hearing it; will post comments once I have it. Guy
  15. 6-4, though maybe you're suffering amnesia about one of the losses. The minus is that despite the schedule being dense, it hasn't exactly been difficult -- mostly eastern conference teams and none of the western conference elite teams. OTOH, they've been competitive in almost every game. Interesting to see if they give the Clippers a run on Sunday. Guy
  16. Fortunately the Warriors bounced back from this loss (and they really deserved to lose considering that they played like crap for most of the game) by beating Portland. They just have to survive two more weeks and they get a break in the schedule. Nice to see the Clips beat the Lakers! I'm guessing we will see that happen a few more times this season. I'll go on a limb and predict that Dallas will snap the Piston's streak tomorrow, though it will be close. Jim's response to Scoop Jackson was good. Why is so much of sports journalism so crappy? Guy
  17. Weird, they gave me that notice during the summer. Guy
  18. I really want to hear Handy's Roulette recordings... alas it seems too unpopular for a Connoisseur, and too short for a Mosaic Select. Guy
  19. One more thing, non-Beach Boy related. I was listening to "European Fantasy" today and it struck me how much David S Ware was influenced by Lloyd's playing. Guy
  20. I've only seen Lloyd's current live performances, which feature some gyrations but probably not as bad as the video you describe (and I haven't seen). As far as Jarrett -- I recently read an interview with him where he said he'd recently seen a video of one of his performances. He laughed and said that "it was pretty graphic." Guy
  21. Really? Even better than Canto? In that case I'm really psyched to hear it when today's yourmusic shipment gets here. Got to the second half of the Collectables issue (In Europe), which was excellent as well. While I agree with Jack W that some of Lloyd's tenor playing from this period sounds diluted (particularly on Forest Flower and, worse yet, on Soundtrack), that was definitely not the case on these two albums. In addition there's some superb flute playing. Guy
  22. Listening to Journey Within. (On Collectables along with In Europe.) DAMN, this is one of the best albums I've heard from this group. Guy
  23. Mine's a male barber. There was a female barber that would occasionally do it ("it" = shaving my hair to the length of a quarter inch once a month) but she kept missing patches and finally I lost my patience. Everytime I go to that place now I wait for one of the other barbers. It's a little awkward but I hate those fucking patches. Once I tried shaving my own head and failed miserably. Guy
  24. I remember thinking last Friday that I would go nuts if the Warriors lost to the Knicks at home. Given how low my expectations are, I can't imagine how Kings fans felt. Playing the Bucks tonight... hopefully Baron will feel a little better. (What the heck was Montgomery doing playing him in the Monday blowout?) It was funny to see Taft and Biedrins averaging 1 foul/2 minutes. For those Warriors fans excited by our 5-3 start, I'd like to remind you of the 2001-2002 season. We started 5-3 and finished the first half of the season 14-27. Then things really deteriorated and we ended up 21-61. Guy
