  1. "Bad" drivers? Maybe in US you created automotive industry with T-Ford, but we created the fastest cars, and about "bad" drivers, this was one of your guys...maybe a little north eastern then So Cal Porcy, Thanks for posting those pics! Gilles was one of the greatest drivers of all time... that man had "speed" written all over him! He embodied all that was pure about racing... I don't think anyone had greater raw speed than him (not Senna, not Fangio, and sure as hell not any of the British drivers that F1 Racing magazine gushes over in each issue). F1 season starts next week... I think it might be time to start a new thread! Cheers, Shane
  2. Jim S., Thanks for posting this article. I can't say I give it too much credence, though. How the hell could I when the guy didn't even interview the most important poster on the old BNBB... Duke E. Coleman! I miss ol' Dookie! Wish he'd found his way here to the big O... Cheers, Shane
  3. Thanks for the tip, Shane. Is your "Ladybird" screwed up? When you have a chance to listen to it, I'd be interested in knowing. Maybe when eMusic updated (years back) their Xanadu listings to variable bit rate, something happened? Oh — the mystery continues (forgot to mention this): After I downloaded this title, my download count never went down. Am I missing something? I logged out, logged back in, and it was as if I'd never downloaded the album. More Hi Late, Just listened to the track, and no problems with it at all. My tracklist matches up with what Brownie just posted. Glad to hear you got the download for free! Oh, and thanks for motivating me to listen to this again. I haven't listened to LTD is a while, and this is a good album. Not his best by any means, but fun to listen to again! Cheers, Shane
  4. Doctor Pepper flys Unabated from the nose Oh, poor monitor!
  5. Without question, THE worst song of all time. Of.All.Time. "We just wanna dance here..." Cheers, Shane
  6. Late, I downloaded True Blue quite a while ago (October of 2005, it looks like), and I only have three tracks. I only have one Ladybird, which starts off the album and clocks in at 11:06. My guess is that eMusic somehow screwed up and mixed this track with something from Cuber. I've seen a few "bad rips" at eMusic from time to time. Or, maybe they're just getting on the "mash-up" bandwagon! I'd report this to eMusic... they'll likely pull the bad track, and should give you credit for the one download that you were burned by. I've had good luck in my dealings with eMusic customer service over the past couple of years... they've refunded everything I've ever asked for. Cheers, Shane
  7. My handle was the same there... although my first choice was already taken ("Sadik The Smelly Turd"). Anybody remember the first incarnation of the BNBB? All the responses to a thread were line-tabbed underneath the original thread post... what a pain in the ass that was to read... although there weren't really many people on the BNBB at the time. I do remember Kevin Bresnahan and Lon Armstrong were two of the earliest members of that old old BNBB... and then our good friend Greg M. came along a little later. Hey, who was that guy that kept harping on about how Blue Note should release the "Ultimate Elvin Jones"? Maybe another guy named Kevin (not Kevin B.)? He even created an online petition, had a bunch of his friends sign it, and then posted it to the BNBB for Cuscuna and Blue Note to see... unfortunately, he left all his buddies' names and e-mail addresses on it (for the spamming world to see as well)! Wonder if he ever bought the Elvin Jones Mosaic? (One of the) Best posts on the BNBB... Jim's "glowing" review of Ron Carter Plays Bach! THAT was some funny shit right there! Cheers, Shane
  8. Hi All, I believe they included Gravy Train because it was Lou's last piano-accompanied date for the label for quite some time, so the they inlcued it to fit that theme (Herman Foster played so well with Lou!). Lou's switch to working with organ players, as we all know, worked out rather well! Here 'Tis absolutely kills!!! Oh, and count me in as someone who loves this Mosaic set! I wouldn't say it's in my top 10, but is some damn fine music. Ten albums of Papa Lou, documenting his move from bebop to hard bop (and showing his progression to soul jazz)? Count me in! Cheers, Shane
  9. Hi GA, OK, let's go with Art Blakey - Mosaic. I haven't heard the RVG version, so this'll be my chance! I found it at: http://www.yourmusic.com/browse/album/Art-...=SEARCH_ARTISTS I'll PM you right away with my info. Thanks again for this contest, GA! Oh, and thank you too, Lions, for racking up those field goals! Cheers, Shane
  10. Hi GA, Well alllriggghhhhtttttt! I didn't deserve to win this, but what the heck... I'll take it! I'll have to go over to yourmusic.com and have a look at what's available. I'll post my selection here and PM you as well. As for this Grey Cup game... well... a total snoozefest! By far the least exciting game I've seen, and I've seen them all since the early '70s. I'm glad the West was able to bring home the Cup, but that was one damn boring game! I think my favorite game was the Saskatchewan/Hamilton final back in 1989. THAT was one exciting game! My dad (born in Saskatchewan, and a die-hard 'Riders fan) was on cloud nine for a month after that!!! Cheers, Shane
  11. GA, Sorry I haven't been catching up on the CFL talk recently... work has had me all over the place the past two weeks! Anyway, my pick: Lions win it 27-24, total points = 51. Should be a good game... Lions offense versus Al's defense! Cheers, Shane
  12. Damn GA... Nice guest list! How do I get on that??? I met Damon and his brother Marcus once in Sarasota (of all places)... was at a Spring Training game for some team (Pittsburgh, maybe?). Both very nice guys! Oh, and "GO RIDERS"! Cheers, Shane
  13. Hi GA, Well... hell! This is upsetting news, for sure, but thanks so much for posting this. I didn't get a chance to see Jackie play (as he was well before my time), but his accomplishments would definitely rank him up there as one of the best ever! By far the coldest Grey Cup I went to personally was back in 1984 (I think) in Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton... Winnipeg thrashed the TiCats in -35 degree weather. Had great seats, though... right on the 55 yard line! And I talked to a few folks there about the players from Edmonton's "glory years"... Jackie Parker was ALWAYS mentioned! R.I.P. Mr. Parker Shane
  14. Happy Birthday GA! Since the Stamps choked, I hope you're cheering for the 'Riders now! Should be a fun Grey Cup this year! Cheers, Shane
  15. Jim, I guess you should make trips to Philly more often! Seriously, I'm glad things are working out a bit better for you... time will take care of a lot of things, so hang in there! GA, Choke city (AGAIN) for the Stamps! Can't say I'm surprised at all by the result... It's not been a fun few weeks for the Calgary faithful, as the Stamps get bounced and the Flames are playing like crap (I should know... I've watched all their games on the Center Ice package so far this year). But, let's face it... this is the CFL! It's a great league for surprises and upsets (the Esks won the Grey Cup last year... how the HELL did that happen???), and that's why it's such a great league to watch! I am now officially cheering on the 'Riders... my dad's from Saskatchewan and is a die-hard 'Rider fan, so hopefully he'll have somthing good to cheer about in the coming weeks! Cheers, Shane
  16. Perry, I'm sorry to hear about this! A dozen of us had this happen? I've never heard Mosaic be so "off" before... their customer service is always outstanding! I hope good things happen for you (and the rest)! Aggie, I think I know what happened to my order... On Friday, I ordered both the Elvin and the new Andrew Hill Select. Mosaic waits to ship all titles, and since the Hill isn't ready to ship yet, my guess is that the Elvin I ordered didn't get placed in the "hold" category like it should've. It's (partly) my fault for waiting so long, and for violating my own rule... "Always CALL Mosaic, never use the website to order". Usually when I call them, I get the set within a few days (all the way out here in LA). Whenever I use the website to order, it takes much longer. This has happened to me once before... I ordered the Phil Woods Mosaic right at the deadline via the web, everything looked good, and then a few days later Cindy from Mosaic called me and said they had "run out" of the Woods set. I'd like to thank Kevin Bresnehan for helping me out, though, as he traded his to me about a month later!!! Honestly, this board is fantastic! Guys like Ray (and Kevin) keep bailing me out... thanks for reinforcing my procrastinatin' ways, gents! (Where's SS1 with that Lee Morgan cover?) Cheers, Shane
  17. Damn Ray, Way to give a guy a heart attack!!! Seriously, thanks sooooo much for helping me out with this! I'll PM you with my information, and we can talk about how much $$$ I owe you. And, the drinks are on me if we happen to get to the same show here in LA! Cheers, Shane
  18. Ray, If you could do this, I'd be eternally grateful! Just let me know what I owe you... And, no need to look for it tonight... search at your leisure! I procrastinated this long on the Elvin box, so I'm certainly not going to ask you to go out of your way just for me. I'll shoot you an e-mail later. I love this board! Cheers, Shane
  19. Hi All, Quick story... I placed an order for the Elvin Jones Mosaic set on Friday afternoon via their website, and then called them on Monday around noon to be sure they got my order (after reading how others were buying the remaining sets that morning). They assured me they did. Life is good, I'm thinking!!! So, this morning (Tuesday) I received an e-mail from Mosaic saying that there was a mix-up in their inventory, and they "ran out" of the Elvin Jones. Mine was sent to someone else, I guess. The folks at Mosaic were good enough to offer a partial set, though - box, booklet, and all the CD's except for CD #1. I told them I'd take it... So, I'm hoping that some kind soul here at the Organissimo BB might have CD #1 of the Elvin Jones Mosaic set that they would like to sell. It's a long shot, I know... but this board is a pretty amazing place, so I'll give it a shot! Any CD #1's out there? Cheers, Shane
  20. Well whatta ya know - I've played there twice with my ska band, within the last couple years. Ever hear of 1337? And by the way, the new Tokyo Ska Paradise Orcestra album is quite good, yes indeed. Andrew Austin Hi Andrew, I haven't caught 1337 at a show... you'll have to let me/us know when you're playing in town, and I'll check your band out! What type of ska do you play? You are so right about TSPO's new album! They had a couple of clunker albums over the years, but they are a damn fine band. Their live shows are great... so much energy! LEET indeed! Cheers, Shane
  21. Hi BM, Thanks for the update. You're right... the Toasters do rule! It's nice to see some other good bands supporting that tour as well. A great big HELL YEAH to the Pietasters, Let's Go Bowling, and Deal's Gone Bad (a nice mix of East Coast, Midwest, and West Coast ska styles right there)! I'm going to miss that 3 Floors of Ska show at the Knitting Factory here in L.A., as I'm off to see the Rolling Stones that night (probably the last time they'll play here before one of them dies, so I want to see them one more time... I know Clementine would kick my ass if he reads this!). But, I'm not too upset, because the night after (Nov. 19) is an awesome show... The Skatalites, The Aggrolites, and the Roundabouts are playing the El Rey. What more needs to be said about the "Originators" of the music... although I think they are down to only two original members left. The Aggrolites are fucking amazing (think Toots meets James Brown), and The Roundabouts are a local act... they are OK... sure wish Chris Murray was on the bill instead though. Keepin' the SKA alive! Cheers, Shane
  22. Am listening to this right now... the sound on this is GREAT! Some wonderful playing all around, and Monday's voice is captured nicely on this recording. After hearing some of her work on CD, I wondered how well she would sound live. Well, I got my answer... this is some damn fine stuff! I'll definitely be looking for her the next time she plays in Southern California. Cheers, Shane
  23. Those are his best albums ever, in my opinion. Awakening has the most erotic cover I have ever seen. I saw Sonny a few years ago in a quintet with alto saxophonist Frank Morgan, a two alto group. Morgan was tasteful and appealing. Sonny blew the roof off of the hall, taking it to many levels above the rest of the performance. HP, I had the exact same experience a few years ago when Sonny and Frank played here in Los Angeles (at Catalina's). Frank played well, but Sonny...! Oh man...! Sonny blew the house down! There were only about 20 of us in the house that night, and many were not exactly "appreciative" of Sonny's efforts (Catalina's has it's share of regulars who dig only those who blow in a mellow tone)... but Sonny roared off into the stratosphere all night long! Still, that was nothing compared to some of the duets I've seen Sonny and Rashied Ali do in NYC. There was one show in Sweet Basil that literally was an out of body experience for me. The music was pure ecstasy... unbelievable! Big Al, thanks for the link! I only have one of his Blue Notes on CD... but I'm gonna grab all three of these and support Sonny directly! Cheers, Shane
  24. I'll deliver an answer @ 5:00 PM CPT. Jim, I didn't know Hockey Night in Canada started that early! It always came on at 6:00 MST when I was growing up! Cheers, Shane
  25. That...Was...Awesome...!...!...! Cheers, Shane
