  1. Hi All, Thanks for all the glowing recommendations! It looks like I'll be placing an order with them on Friday for two 3-drawer units. I'm thinking of going with the Silver (though not the glossy silver... as cool as I think that looks now, that probably won't play out in a year or two), and I'll make sure to include the dividers as well! Thanks again to all who responded. And, once again, this board has found a way for me to part with my money!!! Cheers, Shane
  2. Hi All, I'm seriously thinking about taking the plunge on a couple of 3-drawer storage units from Can-Am... but before I do, I thought I'd solicit a little advice from those who own (or have owned) them. The "search" function on the board is a little trippy right now, but I was able to come up with the following (semi-related) discussion: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=16885 Basically, I'm going to buy them unless someone else can talk me into something better. Some questions I have for y'all would be: 1.) How do you like your Can-Am unit? 2.) Had any problem with them at all? 3.) Any suggestions on the color? What color do you have, and how does it look? Thanks for any help you can provide!!! Cheers, Shane
  3. I have an 8 CD set of the "Miles Davis Radio Project" that I snagged online about a year ago. It is actually a pretty good overview of Miles, with great sound (FM sourced). Shoot me a PM if I can be of help! Cheers, Shane
  4. Aaaargh! Damnit Rod... you just had to podcast this stuff, didn't you? I figured most of this stuff was just too expensive to take a flyer on buying a disc or two... so, if I never listen to Monday, I'll never be missing nothin', right? And that'll mean my wallet won't take a hit, right? But nooooo... Jim keeps hypin' her, and then Rod throws something on the air for me to check out... DAMN! This woman is G-G-G-GOOOOOOD!!! THANK YOU Rod for putting this on the air, and THANK YOU Jim for letting me know about Monday!!! *Sigh* I can hear my credit card gently wimpering... it knows it's gonna get a smack down in the next few hours! Cheers, Shane
  5. Hi Bertrand, I don't want to seem like a nudge here, but I'd really love to hear your thoughts on Jackie's funeral when you get the chance. I know how much you loved and respected Jackie (as so many of us here did), so your perspective would really be appreciated. Cheers, Shane
  6. Hi Tjobbe, Thanks for the heads up! Wow, I hope this is the first of MANY Enja albums to be released on eMusic! Cheers, Shane
  7. Thanks Jeff! Didn't see that one, but snagged it based on your heads up! Sounds great! Cheers, Shane
  8. Hi Tonym, Are there any seeders online for that torrent? If not, then the image you attached is what you would see in BitTorrent (also often referred to as the "Mainline" client). Once a seeder jumps online, and is connectable to you, you will see some progress (i.e., the progress bar will fill in, and the "? remaining" will change to an actual estimated time it will take to complete the download). If you'd like to discuss this more via PM, I'd be glad to do so... don't want to get into this too much, since many Torrent sites like to keep things on the down low. Edit: Tony, if the screen shot you posted on the last page is really yours... where you were using the uTorrent client (I prefer this one myself, after years of using BitTorrent)... I can see that there are no seeders or leechers on the Miles Lost Quintet torrent you are trying to download. This would explain why you aren't downloading anything... there's nobody online that is sharing at the moment! Cheers, Shane
  9. Happy Birthday Alison!!! Have a GREAT day, you deserve it! (And if you get the chance, could you fill us in on how you've been doing health-wise? We haven't heard much these days... and hopefully no news is good news!) Cheers, Shane
  10. Who cares? A head is a head. By the way, you guys have poor head-size judgement. Most pics that were posted show people with normal sized heads. Hah! Awesome first post, man!!! Welcome to the madness! Cheers, Shane
  11. Yeah, I was talking to Han Bennink in between sets at the Seattle ICP show and he said that he thought that America was changing. He's come here for over 30 years touring, recording etc. and he said that things are getting really tense here now-a-days. He said "everyone's scared of everything and everyone now." I know this isn't in the politics section so I won't go into my opinion on why this climate of fear has crept into our national consciousness, but I’m sure you already know. Johnny, While I agree with you fully about the state of affairs in the U.S., I think this incident happened in England? What the hell? How does a cabbie in England NOT know "London Calling"? One of the greatest albums ever! Now THAT's the absurd part of this story! Add to the irony... I bet the cabbie grew up in Brixton! Cheers, Shane
  12. Oh Yeah! It looks like at least 85 albums from the "Jazz In Paris" series have been added to eMusic the past couple of weeks! I really only bought a couple of them when they first came out, so this will be a nice way to grab a bunch of them for cheap. And they were already cheap to begin with! Cheers, Shane
  13. Hi Bertrand, I heard that the service at the Abyssinian Baptist Church was open to the public. I know that's been the case for many other departed musicians in the past, and I believe that's the case for Jackie as well. I too am glad the services will be held in the place Jackie spent a great deal of his youth. Shane
  14. Chuck, That's great! You've got one hip editor there! Shane
  15. Hi All, I've heard that funeral services for Jackie will be held on Friday, April 7th at 10:00am at Abyssinian Baptist Church (138 St at 7th & Lenox). Also, there will be time for viewing on Thursday afternoon/evening. I truly wish that I could be there to pay respects to Jackie. If anyone goes (Chris A.?), please report back on the event. Wow, the news of Jackie's passing still hurts as bad as it did on Saturday... Shane
  16. Such horrible news. RIP Jackie. You were a beautiful man who enriched the lives of countless others through your music, and I'll always be thankful for that. Your spirit will always live on! Shane
  17. Quite possibly the best website in existence ('cepting this one, of course)! Dime a dozen dot org. Get yourself a registration spot, grab an external hard drive (it'll fill quickly), and have fun! Cheers, Shane
  18. Wow, this Ann Arbor ICP show is already up at Dime! Now I'll be able to hear (maybe) what Heckman was talking about... I missed them when they rolled through LA last week. Cheers, Shane
  19. Judging from the personnel - four hand drummers - this sounds like another highlife session, not anything similar to the Byrd album, which had a vocal chorus. This is highlife music, not jazz, which shares some traits with jazz, and is certainly inspired by it, but is a style of African popular music from the 1950's and 1960's (same applies to the Olatunji sessions on Columbia, BTW, which also had solos by jazz musicians). Hi Mike, You are most likely quite right about that. I didn't pay much attention to the number of percussionists on this date, but they likely give away the notion that this session would be much more similar to African High Life than ITTGH. Still, I'm a big fan of ITTGH, so I guess I'm indulging in a bit of wishful thinking here! Either way, I'll be picking this up the day it hits the stores! Thanks for your insights Mike! Cheers, Shane
  20. Hi Aftab, The Ilori album is pretty damned good! However, I should state that it is very heavy on African rhythms and a little light on the jazz (improvisation). Hosea Taylor plays a little bit on it, and I like the bass work of Ahmed Abdul-Malik... although as I say, they don't improvise very much. I also dig Ilori's vocals. To me, it represents an odd addition that Alfred Lion made to his catalogue... I'd love to hear the story as to how this album came to be recorded by Blue Note. What I'm really looking forward to are the "additional tracks" from the unissued Ilori session that was recorded a year and a half after African High Life! That session had Donald Byrd, Hubert Laws, Bob Cranshaw, and Elvin Jones on it! Here's what the Blue Note Discography says about it: ------------------------------------------------------ Solomon Ilori - Unissued Solomon Ilori (vo) with Donald Byrd (tp), Hubert Laws (fl-1, ts-2), Bob Cranshaw (b), Elvin Jones (dm), Chief Bey, Roger Sanders, Ladji Camara, Sunny Morgan (perc, vo), Coleridge Perkinson (musical director). October 30, 1964 - Englewood Cliffs, NJ 1458 tk.4 Bama bamu l'ayo (I have the strength to sing) -1,3 1459 tk.11 Toni omo re (Loving your child) -1,4 1460 tk.17 Agbamurero (Rhino) -1,3 1461 tk.25 Gbogbo omo ibile (Going home) -2 1462 tk.33 Igbesi aiye (Song of praise to God)(instr.) -2 -3: lead vocal with group vocal on these titles -4: lead vocal only on this title ------------------------------------------------------ I'm hoping this unissued session is similar to Donald Byrd's I'm Tryin' To Get Home session, which was recorded about 6 weeks after (December 17 & 18, 1964) Ilori's unissued session. Given the personnel (Byrd and Coleridge Perkinson especially), I'm guessing the sound would be similar. A nice batch of Connoisseur's for sure! Thanks for the info Kevin! Cheers, Shane
  21. Well... My guess is that this set is "timing out" rather than being "sold out". Didn't Mosaic have the number set at 10,000 for this set? There's no way in hell they sold nearly that many. But, count me in as another who will be grabbing it before it disappears. I don't want soulstation to hit me with that Procrastinator cover! Cheers, Shane
  22. Jim, I hear where you're coming from on this. I remember the last time I saw Jimmy Smith play live... it was clear to me at that moment that I was watching the man perform for the last time (in my neck of the woods, that is), and that was one emotional night for me. He still played well (not great, but good), and I probably was more focused on listening that night than I ever have been before (it was like I needed to remember every last thing about his performance)... and then I heard the news of his passing a little while later. I'll never, ever, forget that set by Jimmy... and Time Lines does have a similar feel for me... But, God, I love Andrew Hill, and I hope this is just the first of many to come in his third go-round with Blue Note!!! Cheers, Shane
  23. Wow! My friend brought a copy of this over yesterday, and it's great! Guy, those are some absolutely fantastic photographs! Please feel free to share as many of those photos (and stories) as you'd like here anytime! And, much thanks to Brandon for this. Brandon, I noticed you were cited as being an archivist at Stanford. Are you still there, or have you since moved? I'm somehow thinking you are in D.C. these days? Thanks again for this Brandon and Guy! Cheers, Shane
  24. Hi All, Not sure if I saw this anywhere, but isn't this right around the time of Organissimo's third birthday? I remember the last days of a certain other BB, and I am grateful to Jim for creating this amazing place to hang. This board is truly like no other! Happy Birthday to the Organissimo BB, and long live the king! Cheers, Shane
