  1. I wholeheartedly agree! If the world is going to electronic transmission of music, covers and liner notes are the components still missing. A CD-ROM almost certainly doesn't have enough room for all those pics and sleeve note scans as well as the info. Maybe a DVD does, but I guess price is also a consideration. MG Nah, all this information could be added easily for a minimal additional cost. I'm not suggesting that the album covers need to be full-size or "premium" quality (although I'm sure some would complain if they weren't), so the file sizes could be pretty small. And, the file sizes for liner notes would be small as well. Hell, if the New Yorker can place ALL of their publications dating back some 80 years onto a few discs, I know it would be easy for the BN Discography to fit! F, I see where you're coming from... but wouldn't it be nice to have ALL this information in one source rather having to jump from one publication to the next (assuming, of course, that the addition of covers and liner notes would only add a few dollars to the cost)? I agree that the covers don't add much in the way of information, but the liner notes often do. Oh well... I guess I have something to look forward to in the next iteration of the BN Discography. Cheers, Shane
  2. Hi F, Thanks for the update. By any chance does the CD-ROM have pictures of album covers? I doubt it does, but it should! It seems to me that a "complete" CD-ROM discography would include all album covers and liner notes. If this one does, I'll buy it in a heartbeat! If not, I guess I'll stick to my printed discography for now. Cheers, Shane
  3. Jon, Whoa, whoa, whoa... I'm no Giants fan, and don't forget I'm living right here in the good old City of Angels! And I despise Barry Bonds more than anyone else on the planet (no, seriously, I despise him even more than Dan does!). I just posted this because it's funny as hell... or should I say as DISTURBING as hell. For the record, I'm a Braves fan... although I cheer for the Tigers as well (mostly because they drafted my father back in the day). Cheers, Shane
  4. Hi All, I just saw this on the interwebz: http://youtube.com/watch?v=JW7q0JzWaoY Hey, as bad a season as the Giants will have this year, they still won't be THIS bad! Gotta love Orel's slick moves! (I'm not a Giants fan at all, but maybe I'll support them a little bit now that they've given Barroid the boot.) Cheers, Shane
  5. Are you saying there were two Three Sounds CDs put out in South Africa that have material never released elsewhere? Details, please! And if anyone has these, who do you want to sell them to? Renier (who's a fine fellow, no doubt) or the original Gene Harris Fanatic? Hi Dan, It appears as though the albums Soul Symphony (CD BN(SA)8-31917-2) and Elegant Soul (CD BN(SA)8-31918-2) were released on CD in South Africa back in the day... as were two Big John Patton albums (Along Came John and The Way I Feel). I've never seen these South African CD's, and have never known anyone who has. I might be mistaken, but I don't think Soul Symphony or Elegant Soul have been released on CD anywhere else... so it would be nice to actually find these South African discs! Cheers, Shane
  6. I saw this in a special insert of "W" magazine the other day (and no, I don't have a subscription to it!... it was in the pile of magazines at the "barber shop"). Some of these pictures are damn downright brilliant... I think in part because Miles hardly ever allowed himself to be seen this way. Great shots! Cheers, Shane
  7. Hi All, I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but someone forwarded this website on to me. This is some pretty cool stuff, and I can imagine this will be the next addition to video games and home theatre use. Not sure if we'll see the RVG Holophonic Series anytime soon, though! Listen to some of the clips (with headphones on, of course)! http://weblog.404creative.com/index.php/20...nic-recordings/ Cheers, Shane
  8. Hey, I won this pool last year! Still enjoying that Art Blakey CD, Russ! My pick: 'Riders - 54 points C'mon 'Riders... my dad has waited a long time to celebrate a Grey Cup! Cheers, Shane
  9. Why on earth would you enjoy seeing Canada lose in hockey??? I take it you're not a Habs fan! Cheers, Shane
  10. I found this particularly interesting (even though I don't necessarily agree with all of what the author has to say)... http://www.demonbaby.com/blog/ Cheers, Shane P.S. The "trip to Russia" part of the blog has some funny shit goin' on as well!
  11. Thanks Lon! I appreciate your suggestions, and I'm sure I will grab this from DG this week. Also, please know that I wish your wife (and you, of course) nothing but the best in her road to recovery. Cheers, Shane
  12. Hi All, Has anyone read this book, and is it recommended? It looks fascinating, and the Bastards have it on sale right now... should I pick it up? Cheers, Shane
  13. I've nver been to Safari Sam's before, but I'll try to make this date! I missed you guys the last time around, and am kicking myself for doing so. Cheers, Shane
  14. Whoa, I'm the only one who has voted for choice #1... although I love jazz, my first love always has been (and probably always will be) hardcore punk. I blame the Dead Kenndys for this... and D.O.A. as well... and many many others. Cheers, Shane
  15. Sorry to derail this thread a little bit, but I gotta say I love this quote! Cheers, Shane
  16. Yep, I just got the same message. Thanks for the Amazon link, though... I think I'll try to go that route. Cheers, Shane
  17. I just noticed that Ayler Records has pulled all but a couple of their albums off of eMusic. I figured this would happen someday, as Ayler now sell their albums as downloads directly... It's a shame, though, as I enjoyed several of their releases via eMusic (William Parker's - ...And William Danced is a damn fine album). In light of me noticing that some labels have disappeared from eMusic recently (Epitaph, Ayler), I have a question for eMusic users: Is there a place on the eMusic site that informs their customers that labels will be leaving at xxx date? I've searched the site but can't find any relevant information about labels leaving (their "Press Release" section leaves A LOT to be desired). I guess it would be similar to Mosaic's "Last Chance" section of their website. Surely eMusic knows when their deals with labels "expire"... it would be nice if they passed that information on to the customer! Any thoughts on where I should be looking for this info? Cheers, Shane
  18. Whatever your conscience tells you is right... Cheers, Shane
  19. You're right on the money, Lon. I lost my "original" downloads in a hard drive crash, and hadn't gone back to the "My Downloads" section to resave all of them to my new hard drive... I guess I figured they would always be there waiting to be downloaded. I'm not making that mistake again! Cheers, Shane
  20. Aw hell... I just double-checked, and I lost at least 15 albums when Epitaph et al. decided to pull the plug... including three Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros albums. This just pisses me off! Shane
