  1. Where would I get the Treasury shows??
  2. Received the Cow Palace CD yesterday- nice package. The bonus CD wasn't included so I called the Dead today- the guy I spoke with said that they didn't get as many discs as there were pre-orders. They're getting another batch in a week or two and they will be mailed out to the people who didn't receive one. Haven't played the discs yet- I will tomorrow. I read the booklet though....
  3. Deadheads--obnoxious? No way! Besides being musical leaders, the band also led the way in merchandising. The ubiquitous akull and roses t- shirt giving way to a myriad of tie-dyed marvels, the stickers, the dancing bears. The ability to release a set of recordings that is over 25 years old and selling it out. But beyond that--the most loyal following in rock. I can see, however, how the enthusiasm slips into obsession and how obsession can become obnoxious. I can see the lost souls being a bit much for a non-dead head to put up with! Still, sorry you missed them. Looking back on it- I wish I saw them too.......the DPs and other releases will have to do!! Besides- my favorite era is before I could actually see them- I was too young.....
  4. I never attended a Dead show.....not because I'm young (I'm 45) but when I was in HS I had friends who were such HUGE Deadheads- so much so they were obnoxious about it and god forbid you liked any other band- so I hated the Dead because of them......so I went through other avenues of music, including jazz and then rediscovered the Dead about 5 years ago and saw similarities in the Dead's music and jazz. Discovered their music for the first time really so it was from a fresh unadulterated perspective and exciting at that since I had 30+years to review. I'd say 73-78 are my favorite years but I'm beginning to appreciate the Pig years more. Post 90s are hard to handle for me. And I like the Brent years because the B3 organ sounds great with their songs.
  5. I just started working though the Mosaic- again.......glad I bought it.
  6. Thanks Chalupa- you would think they would fix it and play it at the correct speed- it's been such a long time since I last heard it and I wasn't into the Dead as I am now. I'm with Orchiddr- let's see a Europe '72 box set!!
  7. Putting the breaks on for a moment..... I bought the 1st GD box set (WB albums)and finally got around listening to Europe '72 this morning....and I noticed Cumberland Blues sounded a little fast. I FF to Sugar Magnolia (track 9) and this too sounded sped up- Weir sounded like he was on helium.....Jack Straw, He's Gone, etc.- same thing. Now I've been listening to Dick's Picks and other sources and I haven't listened to Europe '72 at least 10 years....so am I crazy?? Does this whole remastered CD sound weird and faster to anyone else?
  8. Happy birthday to a fellow Virginian!!
  9. Thanks guys- as long as he's ok and nothing tragic happened. Mike
  10. I sent him a PM a while ago and no response.......hope eveyrthing is ok.
  11. Hospital room?? Hotel room? Did I miss something. I hope everything is ok.....
  12. You guys are killing me!! I'm like a kid staring at an item in a store that I want but can't get. I'm still living in the sticks and stuck with dial-up with no cable or DSL available.... However- people have been so kind as to offering shows to me......
  13. Nope- in Powhatan VA (near Richmond)- those frequencies don't have any radio broadcasts on them.
  14. I have XM and I use 106.9 and 88.3 on my radio and I work in an office park with a lot of traffic........I've wondered if I'm stopped at a light with alot of other cars around me, can I pick up a broadcast from other cars?? I'm going to try it tomorrow and see what I get. I work with people who have both XM and Sirius. I can have my Delphi XM2GO upstairs in my bedroom and I can pick up the broadcast using a transistor radio outside at a distance of at least 50 feet. Stern is on Sirius so you're getting their broadcast
  15. The only 1971 I have is the April, 1971 CD set from the Fillmore East- tie dye cover and I was listening to it driving to inspections yesterday- it's becoming one of my favorite CDs to listen to! I have to get some other 1971 shows- Speaking of Box sets- how about a 5 CD set of Jerry solos ala Parker Mosaic?
  16. Happy Birthday Lon!! One of the true gentleman on this board- an honorable man in my dealings with him. Which birthday is it (if you haven't answered it already)??
  17. Ok- I HAVE to ask: Would anyone be interested in burning a few downlaods? I live in the sticks and have dialup and it's SLOW......perhaps the Avalon Ballroom the Dr. ordered........ or a few Download series- I'd pay some cash to defray your purchase costs.....(hmmm- is this legal??). No harm asking!! BTW- DP36 is awesome- I just listened to it beginning to end last week.....
  18. I going to try to see them August 26 in Atlantic City at the Trump Taj Mahal....I don't have tickets yet because I wasn't sure my wife and I would be in the area- I grew up near AC and our plans weren't set. Now I know I'll be up there so we'll try to score tickets at the venue. There's seats left on Ticketmaster but they're not the greatest. I've missed their last few tours and I want to catch this one!
  19. I enjoyed him at Baseball Tonight. He was also great at the College World Series. I'm going to miss him interacting with Kruk- boy they were a pair. Maybe He'll end up at XM Radio- I enjoy their baseball coverage. The one bonehead thing he said was that the Tigers should be "contracted" when all that talk about getting rid of a few teams (stoopid Bud Selig ). The Tigers were terrible a few years ago- look at them now. I hope Harold ends up somewhere soon- great analyst/announcer!
  20. Can someone explain more about these set to the uninformed (like me)? I like pre WWII jazz-
  21. Rhino has released DPs 7-22 at retail stores so it makes sense that they would release others. Plus they have release different sets (Winterland, etc.) on the retail level as well.
  22. Why should I buy this when I have the Prestige Box (big blue one)? Any difference other than the unissued music?
  23. Where's Sophie's parents in all of this?? I'd like to hear their side of it. My daughter's in kindergarten and while I'm surprised how things have changed since I've gone to kindergarten......thankfully the school doesn't have rules this extreme- or I hope so....
  24. I've seen them a number of times in Richmond, VA at numerous clubs, festivals, beer fests, etc. They're a lot of fun!
