Four Freshmen and Mildred Bailey Running Low!
vajerzy replied to billyboy's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I like the female vocalist Mosaics...... There's a lot of alt tracks on the Baily set- does this detract from it?? Opinions?? Talk me into buying it! -
Sports: 2006 NCAA Basketball Pool
vajerzy replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I attended the games in Greensboro, NC Thurs/Sat. Best games: UNC Wilmington- Geo. Washington and Wichita St.- Tennesee Best band: Southern University- they had plenty of horns and plenty of rhythm Best cheerleaders: Geo. Washington Best mascot: Wichita St......their mascot was disturbing- like a frankenstein monster or a stubbed out cigarette. LOTs of Duke fans......I don't like Duke but they looked great dismantling GW on Sat......I was most impressed with Wichita St.- they play great fundamental basketball and they have a good draw in George Mason. Greensboro Coliseum is a great venue to see games. Missouri Valley Conference has 2 teams left, Colonial has one....where is Big 10? ACC? I had so much fun I hope to attend first/second round games in 2007 (Winston-Salem, NC) and 2008 (Raleigh, NC) -

Speaking of DP- I heard a BBC concert of them on XM Deep Tracks last Sunday evening. It was a few weeks before the release of Machine Head and the concert had a cheesy MC introducing each song...Highway Star, Strange Kind of Woman, Smoke on the Water, Maybe I'm a Leo, Lazy and one other I forget (but from Machine Head)....and an encore of Lucille.....great show!

DPs 36 and 33 just arrived!! Can't wait to listen to them! Side note- I chose media mail- it shipped 1/30 and arrived today......the Dead store is in Crozet VA (west side of Charlotteville) and I'm in Powhatan, VA- about 60-70 miles....and it took 2 weeks.
-
Umm...what? Maybe I got the dates wrong- The Dead's last 2 tours where you could buy CDs of individual show or shows and the Dead provided the artwork so you can compile your own CD. Anyway- I have DPs 33 and 36 arriving any day now. Can't wait! Orchiddoctor- thank you for the information on the flac program- I'll look for it.

Happy birthday to a good guy!!

Ok the Dead posted *another* download (Volume 10) that I would like to have yet I'm downloadably challenged........ Why can't they sell these as CDs like their 2004-05 tour and let me download the art? I call them periodically to request this and all I hear is "that's a good idea- I'll pass it along."

That's a pretty idyllic setting! Thanks Jim! Lots of elbow room around here.....nearest house is 3/10 mile and across the street is 2500 acres owned by a catholic order of nuns. Very quiet and rural- but no DSL or cable available....just dial-up. Thank goodness for directv and xm radio..... A truck is almost a requirement to live in this area- comes in real handy. My wife and I would love to purchase a 1960s VW Bug convertible for weekend jaunts. I used to have a 1973 Orange VW Superbeetle- what a great car......I look on Ebay on occasion.....

Quote from 7/4: _________________ Check this out folks, I was lookin' at Mikes posts and dig this: he talks to the Dead. Really! Like regularly too. We have our favorte organ trio here, a bunch of other musicans, fans, writers & critics, but he talks to the Dead. Too cool. All in jest, just kiddin', couldn't resist, have a good one! _________________ 7/4- being originally from NJ, I grew up with a lot of give/take- I'm used to it from friends/family. Hey I just go with the flow! There are many people who are so well versed in all those subject areas and I tend to just sit back and read their comments/views and learn as I go. And I've learned **a lot** from everyone here- more than they realize. There is so much knowledge around here. I have Organissimo's debut CD (a signed copy at that!) - I have to get the next one.

What a nice surprise! Thanks GA Russell, Uncle Skid, Lon, Hardbopjazz, 7/4 and Bright Moments. Thanks Hans for starting this thread! 45.... I'm officially in my mid-40s. 7/4- I'm originally from NJ- Margate City......my wife is from VA- thus Vajerzy Mike

I've been mulling over whether to get Satellite radio.......I have Directv and they now play XM radio....I enjoy it- I play it through my stereo so in essence I have satellite radio in my home. The only radio I listen to is my local PBS station (which has a great jazz program every evening), local sports talk radio, and local college basketball games such as University of Richmond and VCU and other local college sports. Other times I listen to CDs. I don't listen to Clear Channel stations since they laid waste to the Richmond VA market a few years ago. I would get XM over Sirius because of MLB and ACC sports.....I love listening to baseball games on the radio and the chance to listen to Vin Scully call a game without anyone else in the booth is a treat. I'm a Phillies fan and I like to listen to Harry Kalas- he's my favorite.

I called the Dead yesterday to see if any 10 CD sets came back- none have been returned- in fact they're having a problem with people not receiving their sets- seems a number of them have *disappeared*......whether people ripped off the packages during transit or buyers are saying they didn't receive it when in fact they did..... A big headache for the Dead. Glad you all received yours.

Thanks Orchiddoctor- I recently finished reading Phil's book "Searching For The Sound" and I was unprepared for the depth and scope of the man.......I always considered him a background type with Pig, Bob and Jerry being the trail blazers for the music- but I underestimated Phil as a leader. With no prior expectations of what and who he is with respect to the Dead, I was quite surprised. I enjoyed reading it. I'm all for buying commercial releases that the Dead put out. I was late pulling the trigger on the 10 CD set (because I was saving money for it) but I endorse and support the commercial releases. It's their music- and they can do what they wish. I feel fortunate that I have some soundboard downloads (a few at most) and I appreciate them. Funny thing- one of my favorite bands is Little Feat- they allow patching into their soundboards at shows and so many shows are traded around, plus they're becoming "jammy" in their old age- and no two shows are alike.....all I attribute to the Dead and I'm glad, since I enjoy their shows.

Chalupa's post from the BODs of GDP has a noticable absence of one Phil Lesh.... Have you checked out their web site?? Major overhaul in the music store.....I visit it often in the unlikely event that a few 10 CD sets will magically appear.....I like the new look. I have a better chance at the VA lottery. The search continues.....

I've been listening to the 3 CD set plus the bonus disc that I received from GDstore and it's great! The sound is fabulous and listening closely to the songs gives me a new appreciation of this time period with the Dead. Again the sound is so pristine! Still lamenting missing out on the 10 disc box set. Maybe one day I'll find it!!!!!.........
-
Well I hope some kind soul will have an extra set to sell to me- either to make a little money or they decide that the set is not to their liking and will sell it to me. One can only hope!! I *have* to get someone to burn me some shows from archive.org!!
-
Hi Chaney- that's a nice touch to do that.... I'm too computer illiterate to download that and on top of that I have a dial up so my downloads are severely limited.
-
I know........ Hopefully I can persuade someone to burn a copy of the set, and I'll have the 3 CD set which will have the same booklet as the 10 CD set and you'll have the next best thing. Being that the 10 CD set is OOP allows me to justify the burning of it.
-
Will you look at this!!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/Grateful-Dead-fillmore...1QQcmdZViewItem No way I'm paying anything near this!! Oh well- I'll be happy with the 3 CD set.

I like DP7 since they took the best of the three nights- a set here, a few songs there- I agree, a strong DP. My first is also my favorite- DP10- I really can't explain why- just that it's special all the way through. I just finished DP11 on a long road trip doing field work. Anyone have any DPs in the 30s?? I'm going to pick up a few of those- 33 and 34 look good- I believe. DP34 is the 3rd one from second half of 1977, I believe. I also would like a few of the download series but I have a dialup and that won't work. Anyone purchase the download series?
