I sure did! All the more to love!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for making me aware of this release.

I think it'd be really hard not to like the guy, even for a Yankee fan. You can always respect him, like him, and dread him.

WOW! Maddux throws 6 innings of no-hit ball for the Dodgers at Cincinnati. Nothing like making a good 1st impression. Same goes for the Pennsylvania Yankee group tonight. Abreu 3 hits, Wilson 2 RBI, and a great game out of Lidle. I think the Wilson pickup has been overlooked, and I wonder if Torre will take a shine to him given their commonality of being catchers in the early part of their careers. Depending on whether Sheffield plays this year, it means Bubba and Phillips probably aren't on the playoff roster (that is IF the team gets there.) Much improved depth, that's for sure. It's just early August, but the scoreboard watching is so electric right now. It's almost like football...only better of course.

And you probably thought you were done with Elvis reissues, didn't ya? NEW YORK (Billboard) - Universal Music's reissue arm has acquired 11 albums from Elvis Costello's early catalog, with plans to re-release the British musician's material via deluxe editions, compilations and box sets. The albums acquired begin with Costello's 1977 debut, "My Aim Is True," and continue through "This Year's Model" (1978), "Armed Forces" (1979), "Get Happy!!" (1980), "Almost Blue" (1981), "Trust" (1981), "Imperial Bedroom" (1982), "Punch the Clock" (1983), "Goodbye Cruel World" (1986), "King of America" (1986) and "Blood and Chocolate" (1986). Although these albums have already been reissued in expanded form by Rykodisc as well as Rhino, Universal Music Enterprises promises its new versions will be the "definitive reissues." The company also plans to produce limited edition releases for its Hip-O Select imprint, DVDs of videos and concerts and usher Costello's music into new formats such as ringtones. I was slow picking up some of the Rykos & then Rhinos, so maybe it pays to procrastinate. Then again, maybe I'll stick with the vinyl with some of the above and wait for the reissue after the next.

Me too--in my second order. Aye, me too for my 2nd order. Oof! After hearing some of the other K2 upgrades, I thought to myself how on earth could I have not upgraded those wonderful Ellington suites the first time around. Another 6 or 7 K2 upgrades (same as last order) along with a lot of new stuff, such as the Jazz in Hollywoods.

Damn, I liked Izzy. What is Maddux, 50? Just 10 years off. Wrigley gave Maddux lots of big ovations last Saturday vs. the Cards. He handled the days leading up to the trade well too. He may not be what he once was, but he's a classy guy and hopefully the big park will help him out a little. I like Lugo and think it's crazy to play Kent at 2nd, but the whole "fear of being blindsided" playing 2nd doesn't sound good for the Dodgers, even as the agent tries to explain them away. The extra "as long as everyone understands he's a SS" sure makes it look like the perfect fit!

While there have been cases of 38 year old (his age next year) players continuing to produce at a high level, I don't think I'd want my team to dole out the big bucks that Sheffield will demand. As Berigan mentioned wrist injuries are the type that can take a good long time to recover from (see Derrek Lee), though by next spring it will likely be less of a problem as it may be this fall. His slugging percentage last year had dropped to .512. Certainly nothing to sneeze at, but there's a chances increase that that could dip below .500 next year (it was .438 while playing hurt in 30 games this year.) Unless he accidentally uses some cream again... He's played well at Yankee Stadium though, as the past 2 years his road numbers are: 2004 - .265/.362/.497 2005 - .282/.377/.490 whereas home: 2004 - .315/.424/.573 2005 - .300/.381/.534 Sure, he may very well have 1 or 2 very good seasons left in him, but I'd be willing to risk it and spend the money elsewhere, such as pitching, pitching, and pitching (at least from the Yankee perspective.) And if I was a Red Sox fan, I sure as hell wouldn't want him playing your RF. I'll admit I could be way off base here, and I've been impressed by his bat & patience at the plate, but bodies tend to break down when pushing 40.

There are no wrong answers! This thread has reminded me I need to finally get some Oregon on cd. Heck, I live in a state named for the band!

Thanks to the Concord sale organissimo has a new neighbor on my shelves, bumping aside Greg Osby. Kid Ory's Favorites! is now to the right of my organissimo discs. Lennie Niehaus Vol. 1, The Quintets is to the left (If I didn't segregate my jazz discs Old & In The Way Breakdown would take its place.) What discs sandwich your organissimo discs?

He's probably FN cowering (no offense couw) awaiting the results of Landis's 2nd pee pee test. Or dreaming up some sort of conspiracy that you rascally Europeans must have 'gainst 'mercan cyclists. His post was one of the stupidist things I've seen on this board - heck, any board.

Excuse me for a moment, but....OHMYGOD WHATEVER YOU DO GET THE K2 OF THELONIOUS MONK TRIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PAY $11.98, SIXTEEN, $2.98 WHATEVER! I've always been a "it's about the music" 1st kind of guy, but damn it sounds great! Never thought the regular one sounded bad, but mercy mercy me. It's almost like when you first try acid (whoops, did I just type that?) And now 4, 5 And 6 is on. Man, life is damn good. If I ever lost my mind completely and decided to become a mountaineer, I'd skip Everest and climb K2 instead. It's more worthy.

I've enjoyed the Ted Curson, Don Friedman's Dreams And Explorations, and Jimmy Heath's Swamp Seed, but by far the knock out selection has been the Chris Albertson produced Franz Jackson's Original Jass All-Stars featuring Bob Shoffner. WOW! It is so full of life! I put it on in the evening after 3 straight days of 100 degree weather (with no air conditioning), and it revitalized me in a way that no drug or even a cool breeze ever could. This is going to be one that will get played a great deal. As an aside it may also lead me to go back and play more discs that include the tuba (see Swamp Seed for one.) Anyway, it is such a joy, and is guaranteed to invigorate your spirit.

Having grown up in downstate IL I'd say this is the more typical reaction of Cubs fans. The hatred mostly seems to come from White Sox fans towards the Cubs for many of the reasons Paul mentions. Whereas Cub fans usually don't even realize there's another ballclub in town. This of course drives the White Sox fans absolutely crazy. Things may have changed a little after last year, but very little of the state cares about the White Sox other than White Sox fans who had moved away from the south side. It was really kind of sad & strange through the '70s & '80s, especially back when they had Bill Veeck owned the team as lord knows he tried. The state is mostly divided between Cub & Cardinal fans, and even when the clubs are having off years the rivalry packs in the fans. I don't think a Red Sox fan is allowed to use the word "irrational."

WEIRD Dreams?? Recurring or one of a kind??

I have that one too, though thankfully not for several years. It almost always is a botany class which I did manage to attend in real life. That class's professor looked a lot like Zira from the original Planet of the Apes. She even sounded a little like her. I can't remember how the Kreb's cycle works but I still recall her saying during a lecture "While I have not reproduced..." which I had no problem believing. -
Good timing with this and the follow up thread. Got a one day only 15% coupon from The Jazz Loft, so as I haven't been buying enough music lately I ordered this set. I had been looking for more Lacy & Waldron, and this one looks like it will fit the bill.

Sports / Finance: Tiger Woods' New $38 Million Crib

Well put and thanks for that! -
That happened to me a few days ago. When I tried later in the day (maybe 6 hours later) it worked like a tracking link should. I got my box of fun today. As others have pointed out they sure do know how to pack things. One box with 28, another box with 4 (I ordered 32, not 33 as I thought) & then the Coltrane box with "packing slip" written on the outside of the box protecting it. Big bubble wrap and other protective paper padding in the box. One screw up on my end. I wouldn't have ordered Nelson's Screamin' The Blues if I had remembered it's getting the Prestige RVG treatment in Sept. No biggie though at $2.98. The pleasant surprise was Evans At Shelly's Manne-Hole is a K2. I thought it was a regular. What fun!

Got problems with Yahoo.co.uk ?

How long ago was that? About 3 hours? Seems to be spreading. MG Had been about 3 hours, but lo & behold, I complain and now it works. -

Yahoo US hasn't been working for me since noonish. -
They're just a little too poppy for me, but I love Neko Case. Saw her a month ago in a very hot hall. She came in the back door with the band, felt the heat and turned around to loosely tie up her hair. Proceeded back in, stepped up to the microphone and BAM, there's that amazing voice. It's a cliche to be impressed by her voice, but damn it, it's true. Solo she's more of a country/country-rock performer than what she does with the The New Pornographers, but whatever you want to call it I like it! Aside from doing most (if not all) of her latest Fox Confessor album her version of Dylan's "Buckets Of Rain" was such that I wanted to be taken prisoner and hauled away on her bus. I've also just started checking out New Pornographers Daniel Bejar's side project Destroyer. No, it sounds nothing like Kiss, though his voice does sound remarkably like a Hunky Dory David Bowie. Have only played Streethawk: A Seduction a couple of times but it seems like future spins will reap rewards due to the songwriting. The Concord blow out will likely slow down dipping into some of his other albums for awhile.

What rule instructs you to listen to them all at once? Once you start you have to finish. And no getting up to go to the bathroom!

It seems right to me to let a thread about freer music be free to grow & continue on as it is, rather than cut up into wee pieces in its own compartmentalized forum. If someone has trouble finding out about a title because the name doesn't lend itself to searching, then post the query under artist or recommendations and as one would with any other type of music.
