Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest

That's 1.8 cups of saturated fat. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew. -
The key to your success was picking the perfect name for your first born. Congrats. And hats off to Mrs. Ann for all the joy she brings into your life.

It's interesting that you mention that. I've been thinking about getting the Art Pepper, Bennie Green and Carmell Jones Selects before the increase (plus the J.J. Johnson single while I'm at it), but have been debating the "music diversity" issue. This internal debate (which seems to occur frequently) is part of what prompted my initial question. Selects are fair game as there are just 3 discs. Also in my case I have have just a smidgeon of Weston and no Tolliver leader dates. And to a certain degree, many of the Selects have a nice variety of lineups and different settings. The Carmell Jones Select is a great way to get some Harold Land btw. See, it's easy enough to justify shopping at Mosaic. It's a shame alldirect.com went under, as I took 1/2 a year or so away from Mosaic and instead loaded up on OJCs and other discs at cheap prices $99 at a time. It was a great way to expand the horizons very cost effectively.

Sometimes you just have to let some of those Mosaics pass on by in the name of diversity. For $117 of one artist you could (by running into used finds) buy 14 or so discs (perhaps) of various artists. (Not counting diverse H.R.S. or for more money, the Capitol.) I agonized and didn't buy the Ellington Reprise set. However, I picked up Afro Bossa/Concert In the Virgin Islands from da Bastards, and now I can get the violin album and Mary Poppins individually if I want them. So the music doesn't always disappear forever when the Mosaic leaves "Last Chance." And although I can't guarantee it, I've noticed that as soon as the Blue Mitchell went OOP some of the albums out of the set have been RVG'd. I think I'm just going to take a chance that that happens with Horace Parlan and hope I can cherry pick it later. Here I am (almost) putting down Mosaic while I have an order that will probably arrive tomorrow. (Selects Weston & Tolliver before the price increase with the Freeman single thrown in.) Jazz collections are what happen when you're busy making plans.

When I first read that I thought you wrote Brandon Burke. WOW, what a career change!

Not if you're a Blazer fan trying to keep up with all of their trades. Busy busy busy! But yeah, it's not exactly a thrillfest. -
It's fantastic! And as you're just 5 eps in, it's going to get even better. John Hurt as Caligula is just so perfect. I've tried to sell this series to female Star Trek fans by pointing out that a youngish Patrick Stewart's legs can be seen for several episodes, but alas so far not one has bitten. Silly fools, it's one of the finest things ever put on tv. Um, the story, not Patrick's legs, though if you go for that kind of thing...

Indeed! A hot night last night with no A/C and I put that on last night. Sigh...I had intended to play Afro Bossa instead but switched over to your suggestion as I love that album so. Far East Suite too. And many more from many years earlier. Sorry to OP Jazztropic if he knows all this and instead is looking for smaller group recs like Back To Back (a favorite of mine too.)

I've taken a bit of break from Crim-fever but have been feeling it again lately. While the sound on Cap D' Agde '82 may not be "great" I think it's very good, or good enough to enjoy. Certainly better than many boots from the time. Some terrific performances on there. I plan on getting the Philadelphia show in my next DGM order in a couple of weeks or so (or as soon as I build up the courage to order Exposure. ) Absent Lovers is a darn good one, though some of Belew's chit chat is tiresome to me at times. Very small complaint though givern the performance!

Sure did. It's a shame that this wasn't game 5, because it'd be interesting to see these teams play each other with better officials. I like Wade a lot, it's great to see a guy who can score, dish, rebound & block, but before we bronze the guy can we remember: 1) He missed 2 free throws with the game on the line. 2) He threw up a few wild assed stupid shots in game 5 (to go along with his amazing clutch shots.) 3) He gets quite a few phantom calls go his way. This is one of those championships that will have an asterisk next to it. Not the Heat's fault but the damn league's. Gawd, now we're going to get more management books from Riley. Son of a bitch, I could practically see him calculating the fees he'll get from motivational speeches he'll line up in July & August. "250k, no 300k. Let's see, we've got '15 strong' trademarked..." Back to the "warrior" "manager as coach" bullshit for the best seller/business bookshelves again. Ugh, I hate that shit. Yup. Of all the U.S. sports there is more talk of the NBA being rigged than any other sport. Hell, I don't know about "rigged" (though past years I've certainly wondered), but I feel like I'm watching women's figure skating from 2 Olympics ago. -
And I'm 43 today. Happy birthday to you, me & Eric Dolphy! Next stop on the milestones for you is 27. If you become a professional baseball player, that will probably be your best season if you're a hitter. If instead you decide to teach yourself the knuckleball you'll peak much later. There's still time for me!

Don't really have a hearty rooting interest with either team, but I think Dallas will win it. To take Miami into OT in Miami without Stackhouse showed they weren't moping. To win 2 in a row at home is no big deal for them (as they've shown in games 1 & 2.) If they get some of the hometown calls in their favor then it will be all the easier for 'em. -

One car length at freeway speed? I do feel for Joe, that can't be easy sitting shotgun. I know the 2 second gap (at least) can be hard to maintain when in high traffic situations, but just one car length makes me wonder if you aren't a closet NASCAR fan. Edited to note I missed the "at least" part of your post. -
I heard one of the new songs while driving a few weeks ago. It premiered on ESPN sports radio on the Jim Rhome Show (pure dumb luck that I caught it.) I think the one I heard was written long ago and Paul saved it just in case. Here's a recent short Newsweek interview.

Yes. Cut The Crap by the The Clash is waaaaaaaay worse (though I actually kind of like those drunken 'Mats shows, at least if I'm in the right mood.) My vinyl of the post-Jones Clash album is in mint shape. Tried it again a few years ago and I find few redeeming qualities. Back into the shelf it went. I'd also say the last 2 R.E.M. albums are worse, but seeing as I didn't buy them I can't thoroughly testify to their crapulence.

Supposedly the performer thought the song really was just about a girl who liked lollipops. When she discovered (or was told) about the double entendres she broke off the partnership with the songwriter and never sang the song again. Pretty and innocent.

Whew! In the past I've always done my order at once, but as the '75 World Series is coming out on DVD tomorrow (hey c'mon, I really need it. ) I went ahead and ordered a couple of discs a few days ago. Glad to hear the other codes will do the trick! I didn't know that the '75 Series was coming out I'll have to get a copy for when I go on vacation. The only downside of that Series was astroturf and how ugly Riverside Stadium looked. Yes, but the Reds are wearing black shoes with shoe polish! (I'm mildly nostalgic to see the turf. ) Thanks to Berigan for posting the note about the release in the baseball thread. Before I order I'm trying to figure out whether to get the Dick Cavett Comics set. I'd love to see Groucho, Benny & Allen; some of the others I'm not so interested in. Hmm, maybe I should just put in a request for our library to get it.

The multiple fractures in the face and jaw and loss of teeth is going to be extremely painful. So painkillers will be in the mix (and rightfully so), but when you introduce painkillers...he'll have to be very carefull not to add to his problems. -
Given all of the yourmusic folks here we could probably start an Entertainment Weekly Corner. I must admit, I *almost* look forward to it's arrival (not waiting by the mailbox mind you), and I don't even have cable tv. I just tipped Physical Graffiti over the top.

Alright! Our paper had the story but not the picture. That's classic! Thanks for posting it.

Hee hee. You can thank my dad for knowing Tom Lehrer, but I found barley wine all on my own!
-
Buy barley wines in 22 oz. and with the extra alchyhol content, it'll equal the 40 oz. As Tom Lehrer sang, "new math."

Stinks? Or maybe just Cleveland Indians. Long Live Horace Clarke! -
If it a water soluble glue like Elmer's white glue, you should be able to remove it by applying water to it. If it is a more substantial glue, I'd try lighter fluid, a solvent that works wonders for removing stickers. Lighter fluid is usually available at drug stores and smoke shops. Ronsonol is the most popular brand. I don't like Goo Gone - it leaves a residue that's hard to remove. I second the Ronsonol suggestion. It's a "pure" lighter fluid which is what you want. In drug stores and the like they keep it near the cigarettes (if there's one register that handles them head to it.) It's in a small yellow bottle, roughly 4 inches tall. Ask the clerk who's guarding the smokes for it.
