What do you do if the West Coast jazz artist records in NYC and the Capitol LP is pressed at the Jacksonville Illinois plant?

The '73 Topps is the first year I bought cards. For about 3 seconds I thought I had a Clemente when I opened a pack and saw this card: "Wait a sec, the uniform number isn't right...ah darn it." I made a point of getting the Clemente pictured (higher) above when I became a big kid. I think I traded a bunch of '75 football cards for some '60s & '70s baseball cards.

Me too. And in the event someone bought one of the last sets and ends up being bewildered and can't come out of it, I'd reckon one could get nearly all of his or her money back offering it here without the eBay mess. Or on eBay if that's your thing, and who knows, maybe even make a profit. But more important than that, if you think there's any chance that this could be your thing, better get on it!

CD Universe still has It's Time! listed as a Japanese import (with release date of 6/6) and a price of $14.99. The other new Conn's are $11.19. Arrrgh.

Almost all (or maybe all) of the Yankee starters got action shots in that set, so Mickey Rivers, White, Reggie, Nettles, & Dent (to name a few) have good looking cards too. I ended up getting all but Munson's card (of the Yankees) as a kid and about 10 years ago added Thurman. Gotta have the Captain!

Feel like I'm slumming 'round these hi-fi setups, but I'll fess up to owning a pair of their Monitor 5s. I like 'em, very nice price/peformance level for the "mid-fi" guy (especially as I got the ones on the floor.) I bought mine about 5 years ago. They're not for "bassheads," though bass performance has been beefed up in the more current models. While I own the more typical sized floor speakers Paradigm might be better known for their small speakers. If these guys advertised like Bose you'd have to pay about 20% more.

It appears to be true as it's on the official Dead site. Can't cut and paste from it, but no cause is given, just a note that begins "the wheel is turning almighty fast." His own website still has tour dates up for later this month. I know what you mean. As one who was once held hostage to a "Way To Go Home" I can't pretend to have loved him. But as you say, I've repeatedly heard that he was a really nice guy, and that counts for something.

Boy will I miss these guys. I bought a ton of OJCs, other discs and even a few books from them in the past 2 years.

I bought the Jonny Quest dvd set from deepdiscount during a sale and am making my way through it. (Taking my time to savor them.) Hadn't seen many of the episodes in almost (gulp) 30 years. Yup, it's pretty darn enjoyable all these years later, though why Jonny wears that long sleeved black shirt in the jungle is beyond me. And he did Super Friends too eh? R.I.P. Mr. Toth.

With that raw material you could make a Don Adams and have some stuff left over.

True enough..(though I thought the slider was around then, but just don't know) But Babe had to suffer bumpy, long ass train rides. Some pitchers were throwing spitters, more screwball pitchers back then as well. When Babe first started, he was a pitcher, and it was the dead ball era...how many home runs would he have hit if he had started playing 10 years later, and was a hitter only? What if he had worked out like Bonds did, and Hadn't smoked, drank and ate the way he did? What if he had video tape of pitchers he had never faced before, and he had the kind of advance scouting they use today? Babe still hit 714 in a 1000 less at bats than Bonds did. Barry probably has faced a few spitters, or at least scuffballs. He does play against the Dodgers you know. Good point about the video scouting (and other good points as well.) Did you know some Colorado hitters (or at least Helton) use video iPods to view at bats against pitchers? Whacky! Nothing like a portable system to go with the rest. Finally, for all the talk of hot dog & beer training with the Babe, somewhere on the web is an article on the offseason where he hired a fitness instructor! Kinda shatters the myth, and he may have only done it for one season. I'm sure a medicine ball was involved.

It might be good to keep a scrap of paper near the discs as a reminder to what you've listened to lately along with what you like & don't like. It's such a sprawling set you might accidentally ignore a few discs without it. (I've just now decided to do this myself. )

My reaction is a mixed bag. From the looks of things his knee is majorly hobbled, so I think Hank is safe. Yeah, he could surprise me and get hot, but I think just being 42 (soon enough) is hard enough, never mind having bone-on-bone in the knee going on. Trust me, that doesn't feel good. The other thing is that if he hadn't decided to follow the steroid herd he'd probably have between 600 to 620 homers right about now. OK, maybe "only" 580 or so, but throw in the speed he had and it's incredible. Easily one of the greatest players, but his actions have clouded his accomplishments. Could have been worse though, he could have played for Colorado. Passing Ruth? Well, Ruth played against just white guys, didn't play at night, played in a park that favored his swing, and played against pitchers who threw hard only in tough situations. Ground rule doubles were home runs and he may not have faced a slider. On the other hand, Ruth & Aaron, Mays & Robinson didn't get to wear armor on their elbows. For all the talk of steroids, and it is very much worth talking about, I think that elbow armor may be the more controversial element in comparing eras. Imagine if Aaron could have strapped on a big honking elbow armor guard in 1954. No more losing the outside part of the plate - crowd away! (Though vs. the likes of Drysdale & Gibson it still would have been scary.) I have no idea what it could have added to his total, but if you take away the fear of getting a 90+ mph fastball on the naked elbow and it's good for just 3 more HRs a year for Hank that puts him over 800. Yee haw! So no, Barry's 715 doesn't impress me all that much. But despite his crappy personality, his career before the 'roids does. However one adjusts the numbers down, or even throwing out everything after the drugs, it was Hall of Fame stuff. But this feels cheap, fake & stupid. A perfect match for the times we live in.

I didn't have luck for about a week (trying once or twice a day) until one night I just kept trying to register every 3 to 5 minutes. Within half an hour I got in. Cross your fingers and maybe the same trick will work for you.

I didn't buy a CD player until 1990. Had too much invested in vinyl and it took things like Hank Williams Sr.'s Health & Happiness set to draw me out. I bought 5 at once after I bought my player. I didn't believe in buying things I already had on vinyl (and still lean that way.) Billy Bragg - Talking with the Taxman About Poetry Bob Marley - Talkin' Blues Shakti with John McLaughlin Not sure what the other two were. The last sealed new release LP I bought was this: Guess it took a 3 sided clear vinyl release to make me switch.

I had the regular old OJCs and find the box (K2s I believe) to be an upgrade. As a matter of fact I traded in my old _____in' discs on Miles' birthday. Be careful removing the discs from the holders. I slightly cracked disc 3 trying to get it out (plays fine but I will burn a backup). I should know by now how to remove a disc from a holder that won't let go, but I fumbled this time. The holder technology is one I haven't come across before - it's a clear plastic imperfect circle (it has 3 slightly indented sides.) I probably shouldn't worry too much about breaking discs since this will likely get reissued a few times more with new formats.

Now you've used the "p" word while never touching the shift key. Oh well, thank you for not throwing a "zeitgeist" in there. Damn, so these Miles sets don't produce enough beans worth counting for the suits huh? Did the metal spines blow the margins that much? Hard to believe, especially as On The Corner hipness quotient as the great misunderstood album probably has never been higher.

I saw this a couple of weeks ago for the first time since it was on Wide World Of Sports about 30 years ago. George Foreman vs Ron Lyle with Howard Cosell behind the mic. Whole fight is about 20 minutes. Incredible fight - almost like a cartoon.

I think this will be my first pre-order. Woo hoo!

As an unintentional comedy though it's not bad.
