Ugh! Well I now feel I got off easy filing 20 pages worth of Form 1116. My agnostic inclination fades when going through bs like that and now hope there's a special place in hell for the monkeys & their typewriters who thought up that blasted form & instruction set. Not having any experience with monthly mortgage payments of $177,400 I'm not sure if there is a cut off point, but mortgage interest is deductible on American tax forms (Schedule A.) Even if he isn't allowed all of it, it would be better than the standard deduction. So financially it probably makes sense for him to get a mortgage even if he can pay cash for the place. Also, keep in mind his endorsement deals cover the mortgage payments even after taxes, never mind investment income or tournament related money. I'm sure if his back went out tomorrow and he could never play again he could still afford the house. I'd think the lender looked into that too, but one never knows. I understand your preference towards cash payments though, I'm that way too. Rather than be considered a nut I prefer to think of my way of thinking as charmingly eccentric.

During that time the number of subscribers of satellite radio has increased. Any chance that all free stations have a slight decline? I don't subscribe to satellite radio but I wonder if that's where jazz will end up for most of the country, as jazz is such a narrow interest. I'm not willing to rank the Miles sets, but I would file Cellar Door under "I'm very happy I have it." You can get for a few pennies shy of $36 (w/ free shipping) if you join yourmusic.com. (You could always join and quit soon after if you don't want to mess with monthly $5.99 discs and a music queue.) To me it's worth a good deal more than that. If you like the live material on Live-Evil then it's a no brainer. (Nudge nudge.) And it is exciting to hear the band w/out McLaughlin. Terrific set (push push push.) Not to knock the Jack Johnson set, but it's easier to throw on a couple of discs of Cellar Door than face a bunch of outtakes spread across discs.

I intended that (taking what was good, tossing the rest) as a compliment. Too many take the wrong parts and throw out the good stuff. I guess I'm wrong but I got the impression from your earlier posts that Nirvana invented something completely original. Which I don't think is the case, though I love what they came up with.

It looks like I have 40 bootlegs of Nirvana, so yeah, I like(d) them just a little bit. But as far as being an original ground breaking band....um, I don't know about that. Part of the appeal was a lead singer who was a terrific screamer, who could play guitar in a raw but not necessarily technically proficient manner who at his best wrote lyrics that were often confusing (the best kind), a big goofy bass player and finally settling in with a pretty damn good drummer. They seemed adapt at borrowing the good parts of better bands and tossing out what didn't work. They listened to a lot of Beatles in their van on one of their tours, and it shows in a number of their tunes (believe it or not) at least through Nevermind. Later on Kurt became overly obsessed with the whole birth process and focused way too much on sickness & diseases, but hey, when you have a catalog smaller than Hendrix's and you croak too young those kind of things stick out. I hadn't intended to read it but a friend insisted that I borrow his copy of Heavier Than Heaven (the Cobain bio by the same guy who did one on Hendrix.) I have a feeling Mr. Grady hasn't read it, otherwise I think he'd be a little more tempered in his opinions of Cobain. It's not a hatchet job by any means, but it certainly makes him very human, especially where the desire for fame vs. art is concerned, along with a very unhealthy appetite for escapism through drugs. All that said, the version of "In The Pines" on Nirvana Unplugged is magnificent. Even better if you can see the video where Kurt takes that breath before the shiver. It's legendary stuff, and it's why Nirvana fans can go on a bit about how tremendous it is.

I take it you guys haven't heard of this book. Guy Yeah, I know someone who has read that & more (I suppose.) She almost gets violent when you mention Mother T. I think I'll forward the story to her. And I'm imagining her reaction *might* be that Paris is too good to play her. Mother T. and the Make A Wish foundation both set this person off like you wouldn't believe. I find it fascinating.

Seems like a no-brainer that they'd remaster these. I'd buy 'em. There are lawsuits up the wazoo between Apple & EMI and god knows who else. Though I tend to support those who have the masters, avoid Proper and other sketchy labels blah blah blah, here's a case where I say to HELL with Apple & Capitol and the Dexter ECHO ECHO ECHO boxes. Find the Dr. Ebbetts boots. High quality needle drops of whatever you like - UK mono, UK stereo, German stereo, US mono or stereo...to hell with Naked or any of the other official crap. Trade for them at 30 cents a disc plus postage. I bought the UK, US & German vinyl long ago, but the Dr. Ebbetts series is so well done I can't imagine bothering with any official compact disc product, especially after that Nekkid debacle (or the inferior BBC, or the cut & paste BS on the Anthology series.) Having missed out on the McLean Mosaic and seeing as I'm too cheap to bid on eBay for OOP sets, all I can say is: It's Time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A nice looking bunch. And that they're in June rather than Octoberish is a nice switch too.

It used to be hard to find them here in Eugene Oregon. For a time Fred Meyer (now owned by Krogers) was the only store to stock them but now Albertson's does too, and maybe even Safeway. Talk it over with your grocer. Seriously, those guys who stock shelves can make good pickle things happen.

We've switched over from the big Claussen dills to the smaller ones too recently. Claussen for dill, Vlasic for sweet is the rule here. I sometimes think about trying some small label micro(?) batch, but just never get around to it. I've had a bad episode (just leave it at that ) with someone's homemade pickles to the point of where I'd be a bit fearful to get back on the homemade pickle horse again.

I would give it one more week, as I've had things from parts of Texas and Oklahoma take 5 weeks to get to Oregon via media mail with Django orders.

Don't mean to sound like a wiseacre, but I think that pretty much says it all. The _____in' albums in session order. I'll likely get it as I have just the regular OJCs. Though I hope they include album artwork in whatever the booklet may be. If packaging or booklet info is what you're asking about, sorry, I don't know.

Biggest sins (IMO) - no Jelly Roll Morton or Bessie Smith. Some others, certainly not all: Keith Jarrett, John Patton, Jack McDuff, Jimmy Raney, Artie Shaw, Mose Allison (outside of Who/Townshend covers ) Chico Hamilton, Cal Tjader, George Shearing, Hal Russell, Wadada Leo Smith. I know where to get the last 2. No Chu Berry but I'm eagerly awaiting the Mosaic.

I've noticed that 2 of our local independents have lower prices on most used CDs compared to 3 years ago. There are still some selected used titles where they can charge more, but most are 10-15% less than they used to be. I believe this is due to 2 things: 1) BMG music club and yourmusic.com. It's hard to sell some of the common titles for a used price of $8.95 when those in the know can get the same discs new for $5.99 (or less depending on the club deals.) 2) Secondly, as more people rip tracks from their collection to a hard drive device and sell the discs back to the stores, the supply of used discs increases. (And note - both stores have larger used disc sections.) I imagine the increase in supply is greater than the demand, and so the price has dropped. I believe point 2 is the main reason for the decline in prices locally, though as more become aware of yourmusic.com it might become a factor as well. The latter certainly has changed my used disc buying habits.

Darn the luck I ordered from CDU and then came back here. Missed it by >that< much. I'll atone for that sin with another contribution then. And as you're cool here, I likely will still throw a CDU bone over to Jazzmatazz too now and then. Unfortunately sometimes I order from CDU and forget to reward anybody. No more! A great excuse to add 1 more disc to the order. Adding a Mosaic link too (if possible, though probably not) would be brilliant. Were it not for the orgassimo Forums I doubt they ever would have snagged me. There are quite a few posters here who have earned a nickel or 3 thanks to the enthusiac opinions about sets expressed here. When I order though I never do I always feel like adding a note saying you can thank the organissimo.org for the sale of this set. It would be very cool even if they just gave ya a shiny quarter for each set ordered. And really, nowhere else on the web can you get so much feedback about their sets, and a heavy amount of it worshipful. OK, I know, it's a pipe dream. Though maybe a suggestive email to Mosaic from a fan once I've sobered up...
