  1. PM sent about the Peggy Lee/June Christy Mosaic. (Oops, missed it. Thanks for your reply take5. But the below still stands!) And somebody grab that Capitol Classics set. That's a heck of a deal (too)!
  2. I would give it one more week, as I've had things from parts of Texas and Oklahoma take 5 weeks to get to Oregon via media mail with Django orders.

    New Miles Box?

Don't mean to sound like a wiseacre, but I think that pretty much says it all. The _____in' albums in session order. I'll likely get it as I have just the regular OJCs. Though I hope they include album artwork in whatever the booklet may be. If packaging or booklet info is what you're asking about, sorry, I don't know.
  4. Biggest sins (IMO) - no Jelly Roll Morton or Bessie Smith. Some others, certainly not all: Keith Jarrett, John Patton, Jack McDuff, Jimmy Raney, Artie Shaw, Mose Allison (outside of Who/Townshend covers ) Chico Hamilton, Cal Tjader, George Shearing, Hal Russell, Wadada Leo Smith. I know where to get the last 2. No Chu Berry but I'm eagerly awaiting the Mosaic.
  5. I've noticed that 2 of our local independents have lower prices on most used CDs compared to 3 years ago. There are still some selected used titles where they can charge more, but most are 10-15% less than they used to be. I believe this is due to 2 things: 1) BMG music club and yourmusic.com. It's hard to sell some of the common titles for a used price of $8.95 when those in the know can get the same discs new for $5.99 (or less depending on the club deals.) 2) Secondly, as more people rip tracks from their collection to a hard drive device and sell the discs back to the stores, the supply of used discs increases. (And note - both stores have larger used disc sections.) I imagine the increase in supply is greater than the demand, and so the price has dropped. I believe point 2 is the main reason for the decline in prices locally, though as more become aware of yourmusic.com it might become a factor as well. The latter certainly has changed my used disc buying habits.
  6. Darn the luck I ordered from CDU and then came back here. Missed it by >that< much. I'll atone for that sin with another contribution then. And as you're cool here, I likely will still throw a CDU bone over to Jazzmatazz too now and then. Unfortunately sometimes I order from CDU and forget to reward anybody. No more! A great excuse to add 1 more disc to the order. Adding a Mosaic link too (if possible, though probably not) would be brilliant. Were it not for the orgassimo Forums I doubt they ever would have snagged me. There are quite a few posters here who have earned a nickel or 3 thanks to the enthusiac opinions about sets expressed here. When I order though I never do I always feel like adding a note saying you can thank the organissimo.org for the sale of this set. It would be very cool even if they just gave ya a shiny quarter for each set ordered. And really, nowhere else on the web can you get so much feedback about their sets, and a heavy amount of it worshipful. OK, I know, it's a pipe dream. Though maybe a suggestive email to Mosaic from a fan once I've sobered up...
  7. In a recent Sports Illustrated article Damon made a point of mentioning that the extra money that the Yankees gave him paid for his mansion in a gated community in Florida. Owning a mansion free & clear was a big source of comfort & satisfaction to him. To his credit he didn't quote Latrell Sprewell.
  8. According to the notes for Miles Ahead Miles overdubbed his fluegelhorn to previously the previously recorded orchestral parts on "Springville," "Miles Ahead," "New Rhumba" and "I Don't Want To Be Kissed (By Anyone But You)." The orchestra sections were recorded in May '57 while the overdubbing took place in August '57. This is a thread made for Mr. Fitzgerald!
  9. Yep! I always wondered why the Yankees, and Rangers were so quick to trade this young player who hit so many homers, and drove in so many runs...Make him your catcher Frank! Well, I see he finally gave in.....for his money, I'd play all 9 positions! With your bad back you better lay off catching. You should listen to me, I was once premed! While I agree that it looks bad when players do this from what I've heard Soriano is helpless in the OF. It sounds like a 3rd grader with a glove that's not even broken in might fare better. He might turn RFK into a hitter's park when he's playing the field.
  10. Oh, I forgot about that. Hmmm.... That it does. I understand why some don't like it, but I did. As for worst Oscar winner since ______, I'm amazed at the number of critics who are letting Kramer Vs. Kramer slide on by. Though maybe that's more a case of Oscar injustice for winning over Apocalypse Now.
  11. It wasn't random - she chose the blanks. (But is a bit ambiguous, which led to a spirited debate here in the office.) The way I remember it (which may be wrong) was that she says something like "just grab any old box of bullets off the shelf. How about those over there." The owner, with whom she was arguing with, asks "do you know what type of bullets these are?" She says yes, but I got the impression that she really didn't, that she just wanted to get out of there. I'd have to see the movie again to see if she's really looking at the box that she picks.
  12. I think you ran into a mis-price. CDU & Amazon have the list at $11.98. CDU's regular price will be $9.75 but they currently are on sale for $8.39.
  13. They were blanks. The kind that are used for starter pistols at track meets. No bullets, they just make a bang.
  14. Always with the political eh?
  15. Always great to learn of a high quality more modest option out there in these type of threads, thanks! And Malcom Addey on the credits too eh? I'll put it on my hunting list.
  16. Because of the way the folks at Penguin do things not a one has a review in the latest book. (No, I don't feel that dependent on their reviews, especially given how great Tomcat is compared to their 2 1/2 stars, just pointing it out that's all. Hee hee hee.) It's starting to be a habit now to say "Well, thanks to the Mosaic I won't be getting..." But I'm looking forward to a quite a few of these. And it's great that It Might As Well Be Spring is back in print again!
  17. I forgot that Costello played "New Lace Sleeves." Either that, or I tuned in late. I'm definitely going to check these out. I wish they could have swapped in The Clash for the The Plasmatics. I have a cassette of both The Clash's appearance (during their Bonds Casino run) and The Jam. "Funeral Pyre" gets cut of during the credits with "hotel accommodations provided by..." Hell, I'm amazed I can't remember the hotel! If I remember right Tom interviewed Charlie Manson within a week of The Clash. Quite a week!
  18. Many happy returns. Don't eat your cake in your garage!
  19. As it's in the garage I'm guessing you have either paper wasps or mud daubers. The wasps are "wasp waisted" right? Paper wasps have nests that hang from the ceiling. As said earlier, either knock 'em down at night or use a spray at night. Run like hell after either. Mud daubers are interesting critters in that they will paralyze spiders with their sting and drop them down the mud tube nest (look on the garage walls for the nest tubes) as fresh food for their young when they hatch. If they killed their prey with the sting the corpse would rot. Instead the victim stays fresh & alive and is eaten alive. If only they'd evolve to invent little refrigerators! Yellow jackets or meat bees will go for the bottle trap shown earlier. Coke works greats for these sorts of traps. Everything likes Coke, and Coke kills everything. Yellow jackets usually nest in the ground though so I'm guessing they probably aren't your problem. There are also hornets and wood drilling stinging creatures. If you see a neatly drilled hole in a board that the flying stinging insect enters & exits, this is most definitely a spray and run like hell situation. I've had cases where the hornet kamikazied just a few inches from my feet out of it's drilled home. Be careful with fire, especially in your garage! I'd avoid that option if I were you.
  20. I told y'all not to order yet. (I ended up ordering too.) I haven't gotten this email yet but a friend of mine did. "Dear Dead Head, This weekend an order was placed at www.GDStore.com using your email address. Unfortunately you reached a page that was not intended to be viewed by the public, as it contained preliminary information for a product that is still under consideration for release. Grateful Dead Productions has not made a decision regarding pricing, full track listing, or mix for the Winterland 1973 Box Set, so the product has not yet been finalized for release and we have no further information about when this product will be available. Your order will be voided and the full amount of the charge will be credited back to you as soon as possible. Once the pricing, full track listing, and mix are decided we will make further information available by email, at www.dead.net, and at www.GDStore.com, so keep your eyes peeled for future announcements. We appreciate your interest in the Winterland 1973 Box Set and apologize for any confusion. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at customerservice@gdstore.com GDStore.com" Pay attention to your credit card & make sure they reverse the charge. Things aren't the same since they outsourced operations to that Dave Matthews whatever it's called east coast outfit.
  21. I knew this would happen. Oh my god, they killed chef! Those cult bastards! Trey & Matt might have some fun with this. Lots of possibilites... Maybe even use it to continue to rip on Scienlobotomy.
  22. Not jazz, but Don Vliet (aka Captain Beefheart).
  23. Though the point system is a little different, it might be less messy to do it at Yahoo fantasy sports.
  24. Interesting - the link above no longer takes you to the musictoday site but now the front of the gdstore. As noted the "hidden page" was successfully taking orders (I went ahead and got the usual confirm from the Dead store.) I reckon fairly soon they'll make the official announcement. I'm sure someone will post here when they get the email for those who aren't on their mailing list. If you aren't might be a good time sign yourself up for some official Dead spam. Release date is targeted as May 1st. They are not saying how limited it is this time around. I'm guessing it may be a little less limited this time around.
