Then I'll note for no particular reason that I still don't have the Columbia MONK. Each time I've spotted it at a good to respectable price, I keep putting it back for some other time. There aren't a whole lotta of Monk's left to hear for the first time, and that's one I'm saving for some reason.

Good work guys, you sold another copy. Seriously, thanks for the reviews. I've been meaning to upgrade anyway, and I have always been interested in hearing it as it was played. Seems like a natural winner.

Kodak was my first disc. Sniff. I've kept a few of the 50 disc cake boxes as they were so sturdily made. So I move my TYs to a couple of those and put a few other brands I have from B & Ps in others. The main concern for me with (some) cheap discs isn't whether they'll play in the future since 99.9% do, but whether you can make a copy from it a year or more down the line. This was a big issue when I was trading a lot of Grateful Dead back before it could all be downloaded. While the number of difficult to extract from discs amongst the cheap set may have been less than 2%, it was a pain when I was a busy busy trader. If you're not having to make future copies from a disc that plays but doesn't happily extract then obviously it's not a problem.

Bread & butter discs are silver/green Taiyo Yudens. I come from the old line of "Japanese only" disc traders. Unlike Sony, TDK, Imation and the like, I know whose disc they are using. Their own!

Yes they do...

Trouble ahead for Lance Armstrong
Quincy replied to brownie's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I get a chuckle out of seeing the subject header "Trouble Ahead For Lance Armstrong" after it has been announced that he's marrying Sheryl Crow. -
For those of you hoping for more complete Fillmores to be stamped there is precedent for Grateful Dead "limited" releases to become unlimited. The Terrapin Station live release from years ago was supposed to be limited but it's still for sale today. I'm curious as to how may eBay sellers bought this up with dreams of making a fortune. I mean I doubt GD told anyone "No, you can't buy 10 copies." Not that I don't believe there are enough fans who would want the music with fancy packaging, just wondering that's all. Finally, if it really is OOP and a hard to find or expensive eBay purchase, the circulating soundboards really do sound fabulous. You'll still have the "Cryptical/Alligator" cut on either March 1 or 2, but other than that it already sounds pretty terrific.

I think it will appeal to those who use them in the gym or while jogging or cycling. The earlier models are now considered bulky (my how our perceptions change!) yet the Shuffle didn't have the handy screen. This is slim and has a screen. Bingo! OK, so when do they come out with a waterproof version for swimmers?

You & Ewing have a groovy time. -
Faster than a last chance Mosaic... I hope if you wanted the Fillmore '69 box that you preordered one. The 10,000 copy run which will be released sometime in November (I think) is SOLD OUT! See the GD Store link and look to the right for the message. Boy, that was fast!

Little Buddy was 70? Whew, that does surprise me. I guess that's what happens when you've played young characters. That must mean I'm older too. R.I.P.

July '05 Mosaic Running Low & Last Chance
Quincy replied to Edward's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Unlike the Generalissimo shiny new OOP copies of Anita are popping up on eBay (I'm shocked!) So keep that guard up! I'm with you by the way. Some of these sets you just have to let pass on by. (I think I just heard a few "NEVER's" out there regarding that last sentence, along with some "BUT NOT THIS ONE.") -
Suddenly I feel like I'm being watched by hundreds of objects in my house!

God I hope this story is overblown right now!!!

Yup, read it last October. Uncanny eh? Let's hope the death total is lower than in the simulation. -
Sure is! As our King (Ubu) has pointed out, the set (that applies) could easily be filed under Jaspar as well. (I'm tempted to write his name in White Out on the blank part of the black spine just to remind me.) A good part of it makes for a Flanagan box as well. Great stuff indeed!

Great point! I'm so paranoid about a bad mouse click that I'm going to wait for the Cellar Door & Monk/Trane to be shipped before ordering.

As not everyone here reads rec.music.gdead, how about a little comic relief from the depressing news of the day. Pick your favorite Dead cowboy lyric to go with this picture:

Johnny Hodges '56-61. Haven't sold any.

Just barely make it into the 26-50 group with 26. Oops, add 1 DVD for 27. Did it without any big box sets too. There will more to come!

I've greatly appreciated the ability to delve into an artist's catalogue as I discover or become more enthused by the work. It's tremendous that so much is inprint and at an affordable price. (While I should be indifferent between a $16.89 disc that's 70 minutes long and an OJC that goes for $9.20 that's 38 minutes long, I tend to prefer the latter. Perhaps it's because of the quality of the sessions. Certainly such pricing makes me more inclined to buy more.) Thank you for allowing me to discover the wonders of Benny Golson, Gigi Gryce, Hal Singer & Duane Tatro along with a hundred or so others with the added luxury of doing so on my own schedule. I do hope you are able to maintain the current level of availability as there are so many excellent sessions that can take time to discover as they don't make the usual "100 Greatest Recording" lists. I have a few hundred OJCs and hope to add many more hundred in my lifetime as the catalogue is so rich. I also have greatly enjoyed the K2 series and hope it continues.

Box Design sucks Miles/Trane Col. Compl.

Then again, they could have saved shelf space and used 2 quad cases. As it is it looks more monumental though. -

At least with Seven Steps the notes are black ink on white pages. I'm not sure my eyesight has ever been the same since I tried reading the Silent Way notes. I did that too for Jack Johnson (I've also done that with the Grateful Dead So Many Roads box.) I was going to do the same with 7 Steps but in my eagerness to open it up forget. I keep the insert filed next to the box as it's easier access to what's on which disc. -
How Many Miles Davis ' Cds Do You Own??
Quincy replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous Music
My database says 77 titles (including boots) comprising 120 discs, but I think it might be missing a few entries. -
Jack Teagarden is who turned me around from tolerating & avoiding vocalists to enjoying & seeking more. I still have a ways to go, but I'm no longer allergic to the concept.
