  1. I did love having Please Please Me thru Pepper's on the iPod for reference while reading on my trip. Vocal flub at 1:43 you say? Ah there it is, never noticed before. At the time I put it together I didn't have the box so I mixed it up with stereo and mono but missed the non-album tracks. Sounds like a fun project to upgrade the sound on some, extend it by adding the later albums, add the Past Masters and unreleased stuff mentioned in the book. But I'm so young & modern I'll keep it to playlists rather than CDRs. Face melting?! Dude, did you wander in over from the Grateful Dead thread?
  2. Check out Friends and Smiley Smile sometime. It has nothing to do with "fun fun fun." I too used to wonder what the deal was with the Beach Boys, and also thought Pet Sounds to be massively overrated. Friends & Smiley Smile made me appreciate, hell, love the band. And if Smiley Smile is a failure, if only more bands could have been so lucky.
  3. For me it was seeing how small the cardboard box was from Amazon. It wasn't Mosaic shaped! I spent $220whatever for this? After the brief angst of a surgical slice of the plastic to avoid doing damage to the little white box, that moment where you slide the box out and see all those little LPs...weeeee!, it's like Christmas Day when you're 4. I've noticed I've been sunnier lately, despite the rainy grey weather. This set has turned me into a whooped babbling fanboy.
  4. Happy Birthday! Treat yourself to those King Crimson 40th Anniversary releases.
  5. Nice porn pictures there! I had buyer's remorse for about 10 seconds. Then when I slid the white box open...and here I thought I was immune to miniature faithful reproduction. (I imagine the designers are also model railroaders.) And yeah, as said the sound (most important part) is so fuggin' great. I do play these a bit louder than most of my CDs. Play it loud since it's not a "loudness war" victim!
  6. Now you tell me. When I moved out here many years ago I needed to establish a new relationship with a herb supplier. Found one in one of my classes, and so afterwards I go over to the house he's sharing with others. As I'm heading out about 1/4 oz heavier than when I went in he shows me a "project" and says "look, we're growing a crystal." I look and nod and say something like "cool." I was so young & innocent (no, make that dumb) that I thought it was one of those kits from childhood. I didn't make the connection for a long time.
  7. I know Charlie went with Pedro as Hammels pitches better at home, but MLB should thank him for creating such great theater. Phillies now have to go up against the SI cover jinx as Howard is on the latest.
  8. I thought it was funny was the emphasis on the "crystal" part. When some hillbilly does it it's just "meth," but Agassi did crystal meth. Yummy! Which reminds me, what the hell ever happened to Crystal Pepsi? Aside from taste perhaps they had bad timing with the name.
  9. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. It's extra difficult when your relationship with your pet mirrors that with your significant other. The cliche about time passing & healing is true if that helps, but the near term will be rough. My condolences.
  10. Edited for gender content: In the Warhol crowd, it's certainly possible that this woman had never even had a set of sticks in her hands but he was acting like she had. Guess this shows you how much I know about the Velvet Underground. Up over and out. You have the Yankees ("Mo" Rivera) on the brain right now and that's understandable.
  11. Hooray! Happy Birthday Guy!
  12. Not "at will" as there are numerous conditions. When these sort of conditions first appeared a lot of people panicked (and egos inflated too), thinking every word written could somehow be published as some literary masterpiece by Yahoo Press. Hasn't happened as far as I know, but if you really think you have something of marketable value then I suppose one should consult a lawyer before setting up such a group. We all know jazz research is pathway to riches! If you go further down the list of conditions relating to section b., there's a "However, publicly accessible areas of the Yahoo! Services would not include portions of Yahoo! Groups that are limited to members..." These sort of agreements have conditions all over the place, but a more "carefree" reading is that they're protecting their ass end from lawsuits when content is shared on their boards. Okay, I can't read any more Yahoo verbiage before lunch or else I'll fall asleep...
  13. When I saw the one on top picture I thought "I didn't know the S.D. Padre baseball team played hockey too."
  14. I had forgotten that the White Sox vs. Astros was a sweep. I wouldn't call it a clunker though. Aside from the novelty of one virgin team and another that hadn't won in a very long time, those were some very tense games. Ideally we all want a 7 game series with close games, but I'll take a short series with close games over long series with nothing but blow outs any day.
  15. Fuchsia Swing Song is supposedly available at Deepdiscount for $11.97. Not sure if it's one of those deals where they say they have it & they don't though.
  16. Probably, though it's hard to say. Some of the indie critics favorite darlings have started showing proggy leanings, namely The Decemberists "The Hazards Of Love" But this album was also skewered by some of the publications that previously praised every warble or fart produced by Colin. Metacritic doesn't go back very far but Fear Of A Blank Planet and The Incident got some decent reviews. It seems being ignored is more likely to happen now than having some big time magazine tear a work to shreds.
  17. Excellent! The (((stereo))) remaster sounds insanely great, especially the acoustic guitar, which contributes to the "living room effect." One of the reasons (I think) why I enjoy this album so much today is that it probably was the least played of all that owned. But it also because of the number of great Lennon vocals too. My mono box should arrive any day now, but at least vs. a vinyl drop mono dub this one I prefer in stereo. Contrary to current opinion, stereo isn't always inferior.
  18. DP5 is my favorite Brent recording, disc 2 is stellar, the new road trips sounds like a good one. Thanks for the comments on the JGB stuff. Yeah, I forgot to add that I wasn't a complainer about DP 5 coming out. I like it! I ended up doing the Jerry & Road Trip duo. Because you know, you have to spend money to save money right?
  19. Yikes, once upon a time I knew did calculations and stuff with Avogadro's number. Guess it was all of those other chemistry experiments that wiped that knowledge out of the old bean.
  20. I have a NYE recording with that band. I would think that Nicky isn't as sloshed in November as he was on NYE! Worth a listen I'd say. I think I'm roped in by the free shipping offer if you get it with the latest Road Trips. 12/28/79! A full show for those who require such things. I don't but this show always fit nicely on 2 discs so it's perfect for the series. It also is famous for being considered one of the last monster shows, even by those who are allergic to anything after 1974, 1977, take your pick in Dead snobbiness. So it's an excellent choice for the series as some got roped into the June Winterland '77 box and loved it despite not usually stretching out that late into Deaddom. Glad to see they've "officialized" this show as it's a mighty good one. And now we no longer have to hear the complaints that they picked the wrong night for DP 5.
  21. In your honor I'll a spin couple of discs of the Bear Family Ray Price & The Cherokee Cowboys set since you planted the seed in my head about how I needed it. And I did! Happy Birthday!
  22. Congrats to the Phillies! When I was a teenager I remember "hapless" being put in front of "Phillies," as even when they started winning they suffered a 3 year run in the late '70s of losing in the NLCS before finally winning their first World Series in 1980. How different for my teenage nephew Phillies fan. From 1980 on they are tied with the Braves & Cardinals with 5 NL pennants (only the Yankees have more over that period.) Not that he remembers 1980, '83 or hell, even '93. But the Phillies back-to-back! Most impressive.
  23. Holy crap Batman, 3 umps out with concussions! I hadn't really thought of that but there'd be ample opportunity to have the ole noggin' clobbered during the season. It might be safer being an NFL QB than a MLB ump. (Okay, probably not, but then umps are often older.) Aside from the Swisher calls it does seem like it's standard procedure to blow a following call to make up for the earlier screw up. Doesn't work well in the 9th inning though...
  24. I don't know about that as sometimes the game passes by great football minds. Shula and Landry are a couple of examples and there are more. Granted it may be many years before that happens to Belichick, but it happens to most, even the great ones.
  25. MLB.COM has a "Dewey Defeats Truman moment."
