  1. Nice list! I got nuthin'. However I can make a list of sons of MLB players who I saw play in the minors: Ben Grieve Bobby Bonds Jr. Craig Griffey Malcolm Cepeda Omar Moreno Jr. Eduardo Perez (Tony's kid) Mendoza Line's kid, perhaps a Jr. Fernando Valenzuela Jr. (played 1st) There are probably a few I'm forgetting. Grieve & Perez are the only ones who hung around the bigs for at least a few years. Tom Grieve & Fernando Sr. both visited the local park but I didn't see either.
  2. Heh. I'm wondering who would win a bizarro contest between Manny & Rube Waddell. I was also wondering how many teams still have hair length guidelines. I would have thought the Dodgers would have been one but probably not. I can't wait to see a picture of him in that classic uniform, it'll be a sight!
  3. Actually your thread was most helpful. I realized they had a bunch of limited edition OJC I was looking for at 9 bucks. I used the free shipping and the code on this thread, and got a very good deal after all Yup, a most helpful reminder.
  4. And it will be a lot less interesting. That may be what you want, but the '04 team (with Millar & Damon as well) sure was colorful.
  5. Oh well, it was a fun exercise in planning & hunting. Gotta keep those skills up to snuff! Plus I refined my hunting list & didn't spend a dime! (It also reminded me I am going to have to get a couple of Rev. Gary Davis albums from somewhere real soon.)
  6. Yup, he's a solid citizen and player. He didn't complain about playing in Pittsburgh nor did he demand a trade to winner. He's got a good eye and his power is coming back in his first year back after his knee injury (even his modest speed is coming back.) I would think his numbers have been hurt playing for a losing Pirate team. He's a solid sort, and for the money & team defense I think he's be a much better fit for the BoSox than Teix would have been.
  7. Stick to VORP and PECOTA, he's only 38 til November! Guh...age math is hard! He's still about 23 in my mind. He's had a pretty good July (.271/.386/.541.) No, you don't want him in CF, and I agree, with Ozzie who knows how he'll be played. I imagine he'll play vs. Livan as he has 5 HR in 14 AB vs. him. The Kid has also homered off of Blyleven but I don't think that info is very useful anymore.
  8. Junior to the White Sox. At the risk of making a post free of VORP & PECOTA, I'm happy for the guy at getting a shot at the playoffs. And at 39 he's still got a wee bit of pop against righties. So as a platoon player he could be very useful for 'em. So I go from being ambivalent about the ChiSox (as all people born in downstate IL are ) to kinda rooting for them, just for The Kid's sake.
  9. Hans - stop it ! And for those of you who don't have the Gerald Wilson... Or for those of you who are getting the running low Gerald Wilson and need to add something on sale to the cart....
  10. Thanks for the info. I was wondering what was up with him post-Blue Note (yet had been too forgetful to follow up my wondering.)
  11. $4.23 in Eugene OR. But that's less than it was. Glad I only drive about 3000 miles a year.
  12. For the 3rd playing I decided to start with what might be the lead track on side B with "If Not Now, When?". Whoo-boy, I'm glad I decided play let's pretend this is a thick slab of pristine vinyl since y'all captured that ideal (and I'm not even a vinyl fetishist) so perfectly. It's probably too long for it to be vinyl but it sure has an album feel as "Traces" going into "Danco De Alma" closes a side beautifully. Of course it also works as a CD as now I'm letting it continue on for second helping of the last 4 songs again. It's a beautiful when the artistry & the technical are both executed at a high level. Congrats! I don't mean this to sound backhanded, but you guys keep getting better!
  13. Amazing timing as I just finished watching it. Checked IMDB right after and was saddened to see that Ulrich Mühe had died of stomach cancer. Terrific performance, great movie.
  14. Might want to check out DGM Live. It's King Crimson's live music official download site. The nurse icon on the upper right will help you navigate. Some discussion about it here. There's also the King Crimson Corner. Or is that Kcorner?
  15. I've been going through the same thing. Classical and now blues has been opened up in a big way for me. And the Bessie Smith on the (now playing) Venuti & Lang box has reminded me I need more of that woman. You'd think a certain poster's presence here would have knocked that idea in my head sooner.
  16. Beats being remembered for hemorrhoids. And until somebody hits .400 his run is still remembered by many fans. I'm with Dan. I've never doubted his reaction was real.
  17. Pretty goofy! The Onion hasn't done it's research though as Prince made a big deal at the start of the season about becoming a vegetarian.
  18. Beautiful performance - thank you. The treatment is going to knock you down on some days, but keep fighting & stay positive.
  19. I've read Loeb, Miller and Moore, and I suppose a little of O'Neal too. Yeah, I did pick up some of the references, especially The Killing Joke. I thought the portrayal of Two Face/Dent was pretty good too (though I did expect the back of the coin to be scratched up more. ) I had forgotten to check running time before I went and I'll admit thinking a couple of times "oh hell, is this thing ever going to end." To avoid spoilers I'll just say some of the "running around" and people in peril in the last 1/3rd of the movie was torturous. Perhaps part of the trouble is the reviews making this thing out to be "great cinema" rather than big budget summer entertainment, but that's not it entirely. See, I loved Iron Man. It was quite possibly the most fun I've had watching a superhero movie. I've even recommended it to friends who don't care for the genre. Hell, I think it'd be humorous if instead of Ledger being nominated for The Joker that Downy would for Iron Man. Batman on the other hand takes itself so seriously. It's a rightful reaction to the camp of '60s but on the other hand it's probably swung a bit too far in reaction. (Granted, the "serious" Batman has been that way in print for what, 20 years now.) Unless it's processed digitally I feel so sorry for Bale - he must have a sore throat for weeks having to do the so serious Bat-whisper. I'd rather have a little bit less than more with action scenes. For instance the last King Kong movie would have been much better had they removed all that nonsense of people running between the dinosaur legs in the stampede. Sometimes 1 dinosaur is better than 20, or 20 seconds is better than 2 minutes. Same sort of thing in this movie, at least for me, with chases and people in peril. But in the end I think it's worth seeing for the Joker scenes and some other moments, but I'm being careful about who I recommend it to.
  20. That sums it for me perfectly. When the Joker wasn't on the screen it was just a lot of running around, blowing shit up and so forth.
  21. Rearrange the jewel cases in 5 minutes? This is organissimo.org man! (I know, you didn't suggest rearranging the whole thing.) It was quitting smoking that caused the ole CD collection to multiply like bunnies. Hell, Universal and whatever the names of the labels that are left should put coupons in CDs for the patch. A pack a day habit nowadays buys a lot of CDs in a month.
  22. Glad to hear someone say that. I was the sort who used to have to have a smoke as soon as I woke up so when I decided to quit (Dec 26, 1999 ) I used the patch. Although the reasons for getting to the point of wanting to quit were numerous, with near the top was being sick of being controlled by the addiction, what helped me get through it and quit was believing the worst outcome as spelled out on the patch's warning label. There was a warning about the dangers of nicotine overdose, so I told myself if I even tried to smoke one cigarette while wearing the patch it could strike me down dead. Silly I know as I've seen people in the summer outside of bars smoking with patches on, but this was my last line of defense in staying committed to quitting. Hey, whatever works! It's a very strange these addictions. I gave up morning coffee for a few years too as it was so associated with smoking. Drinking cocktails can still bring out long ago cravings whereas wine or beer most likely won't. Once I got through the 2nd year or so it was exceedingly rare that I'd crave a smoke (not counting family reunions. ) But oddly enough now 8 1/2 years later I've had more urges for smoke this year than probably the past 5 combined. Haven't acted on those urges and feel pretty strongly that I won't, but it is a bit of a head scratcher.
  23. What else did you buy? (It's cheaper to live vicariously through other people's orders. )
  24. I think it was up to the player, as it should be. I like how Winfield had both a Padres & a Yankee hat. Where was Bench & Fisk? Maybe Fisk couldn't figure out which hat to wear. It's Ryne Sandberg. Bad backup Cubs fan. I thought it was funny what a meek reaction Robin Yount got from the crowd. You could practically see him thinking "c'mon, 3000 hits, 2 time MVP, remember me?"
  25. Sale still going on.
