  1. I just recently picked this one up on emusic after being curious about it for years. It was worth the wait IMO, I've been spinning this one quite a bit. As mentioned above Maupin is amazing throughout and I really dig the stretched out modal grooves being thrown down on this one. I've always been a "drone" nut, so this type of stuff is right up my alley.
  2. By the way, on the possible sleeper teams...here's an interesting QB stat that nobody is talking about. Matt Hasselback (Seattle Seahawks) TDS=17 INT=8 YDS=2,638 RTG=91.3 from NFL.com "Seattle's most consistent offensive player this season, who is ranked in the NFC's top five in attempts (364), completions (230), touchdowns (17) and passer rating (91.3) and is taking advantage of Holmgren emphasizing passing over a stalled running game." I wouldn't count these guys out yet, they have the talent and potential to make a run late in the season, win the division and get a home playoff game. Alexander is out this week (not a great loss) but they also get D.J. Hackett back who is a potential #1 receiver sometime in the future.
  3. The worst slate of Thanksgiving games in the history of the universe.... Watching football at Thanksgiving has become one of those traditions that I look forward to every year. But when I saw the lineup of games I knew it was going to be 3 pointless blow-outs...only the first half of the Colts/Atlanta game held any interest whatsoever. They need to start thinking about a way to "flex-schedule" these games to make them more interesting. Yawn.
  4. My opinion would be exactly the opposite, aside from some various tunes on their earlier albums, my love of The Who starts at around The Seeker. Who's Next is one of my desert island rock albums and I never tire of it...despite being overused as theme music for CSI shows. I never really thought much about the production aspects of these albums, Who's Next has always sounded full and vibrant to me. Although I must admit that I prefer listening to it on vinyl...preferably with some scratches...it just makes it feel all the more authentic. Some albums are best enjoyed when you've bought them for 25 cents at a yard sale...
  5. Brings back real nice memories, I remember watching these ads with my Grandmother when I was about 4. RIP
  6. I was listening to the Louis Jordan Bear Family box earlier today, the kind of stuff that makes you glad to be alive.
  7. He's definitely in the upper ranks of my top 5 tenor players....
  8. I don't have a problem with running up the score, in fact I think this entire "debate" is silly. You wanna know what REALLY bothers me? When a team DOESN'T go for the jugular (how many times have we seen teams blow big leads and lose?). If you can score 70 points against a vastly inferior team...GO FOR IT. Going for it on 4th down keeps their defense on the field, keeps their offense warming the bench and keeps your own team with sole possession of the clock. It's impossible for them to make a comeback if they never get the ball. I don't see any "revenge agendas" on Bill's mind...I see a great coach who wants his team to perform to their abilities and who wants to stick to his game plan REGARDLESS of what the opposition dictates. It's not Bill's fault that the rest of the NFL is barely even in the rear view mirror, why should he show mercy? Fuck it. Keep being aggressive until somebody proves they can stop you. I don't see it happening this year. 16-0, Super Bowl bound. ...and I'm not even a Patriots fan, I just call it like I see it.
  9. I believe that Jim's secret is that he never sleeps...
  10. The profile of Pat Robertson is awesome.
  11. Another vote for the Helen Merrill version...sheer bliss.
  12. Thanks for all the recommendations, I'll pick some of those up.
  13. I see that emusic has quite a bit of Jimmy Reed available, I've always been curious but never collected any of his recordings. Any recommendations for specific albums, your favorites, etc?
  14. Agreed. I'll take Favre's experience any day of the week. Watch out when the old man is having fun...he plays like a 25 year old. Favre is the kind of guy that can will a lesser team into becoming more than the sum of their parts. He's the epitome of class in football today. I'll be one sad dude when he finally decides to retire.
  15. I had a few discs ruined by storing them in those cases...not again. Jewel Cases may be a pain in the ass, but they do protect the discs.
  16. I don't know, I kind of like it (depending on the uniform). The Chargers in the powder blues...the Bills with the buffalo (not the 70's looking one, earlier) on the helmet...the Cowboys throwback blue & white uniforms, it can be cool when they pick the right ones.
  17. I could use that exact same review to describe Talk To Me with Don Cheadle...should've been great, in the end was just good.
  18. A churnin' urn of burnin' funk? A hefty hunk of steamin' junk?
  19. He wrote some hilarious stuff for Born Again, including... "Grey and plastic retards all floating in circles..." "...where the heroes gather by the river with their magic and their music as they eat raw liver" Lyrics to No One Came below... Deep Purple - No One Came Lyrics Maybe it's because I'm only starting That I think it won't take too long Maybe it's because I can see you laughing That I think you've got it wrong Maybe I could be like Robin Hood Like an outlaw dressed all in green Someone said what's he gonna turn out like And someone else said never mind Well I was big and bold and more than twice as old As all the cats I'd ever seen I grew my hair and bought a suit Of shiny white or was it cream I shook and shivered danced and quivered And stood on a mountain top No one came from miles around and said Man your music is really hot Well I knew what they meant because I was a freak My throat was tired and worn My pretty face just looked out of place As they poured on the scorn I wrote on yellow paper from a man who was the king He said my boy we'll have some crazy scenes There weren't any scenes at all like he was talkin' about He must've been the king of queens Well I could write a million songs about the things I've done But I could never sing them so they'd never get sung There's a law for the rich and one for the poor and there's another one for singers It's die young and live much longer Spend your money and sit and wonder No one came for miles around And said man your music is really funky I believe that I must tell the truth And say things as they really are But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth Could I ever be a star Nobody knows who's real and who's fakin' Everyone's shouting out loud It's only the glitter and shine that gets through Where's my Robin Hood outfit? Well I've come and I've gone before you wink an eye No one ever cared enough to say goodbye The money's good and the time you have Fun and games galore But you spend your money and lie in bed forgotten And you wonder what you did it for No one came from miles around And said man who's he?
  20. Fireball is where it's at... No One Came from miles around and said "Man, your music is really funk-kay".
  21. Shawn's completely unofficial list containing whatever I could think of in 3 minutes or less.... 22. I'm pretty sure it goes back farther than that, Blackboard Jungle used Rock Around The Clock (if my memory is correct).
  23. At the moment, the Cowboys are 6/1, Giants 6/2, Redskins 4/3, Eagles 3/4. All of these teams have potential to be great...but are they there yet? The Cowboys are probably the closest, I'm waiting for the Giants to self-destruct like they do every year, the Redskins still haven't figured out who they are yet and the Eagles just don't seem to be clicking. Not sure if I'd agree with the "best division in football" at this point in the season. Maybe if the Cowboys had put up a better showing against the Pats I'd be more willing to give them "superstar" credibility.
  24. Drac says...ya got any toothpaste? Happy Halloween gang...
