  1. Stanton Moore is da bomb....
  2. It seems weird to me that someone would object to Yes on the basis of their lyrics. I mean, yeah, if you try to take them literally/at-face-value then they come off as goofy, but this criticism seems to be off the mark. Would we take seriously similar criticism directed at scat singing? Guy "In and around the lake, mountains come out of the sky and they stand there..." I rest my case.
  3. Which one? Yet another version of Body Snatchers opening this month..."The Invasion" with Nicole Kidman & Daniel Craig. I've got extremely low expectations of this one. It's been sitting on the shelf since early 2006 and has been massively re-scripted, re-shot and generally tweaked to the point where most likely nothing is left.
  4. That clip looks like Busby Berkley on acid.
  5. Found at the local used CD store... Joe Lovano - Joyous Encounter Gil Scott-Heron - The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
  6. I guess the first question is are these the same person? I've run across this dude in the strangest places...he wrote the funky opening jazz-funk score to a 1972 UK horror film called Death Line (aka Raw Meat), I've also seen him credited with horn arrangements on Black Sabbath's Never Say Die album. AMG just confuses things further mentioning a couple solo albums and group recordings (Orange Bicycle), but all with varied spellings of the guys name. Any ideas?
  7. I always liked his playing with King Crimson.
  8. George Carlin - When Will Jesus Bring The Pork Chops? With a title this good, I knew this would be some seriously funny shit.
  9. I saw Hank several times in the late 90's with McGriff and you could definitely tell something wasn't quite right. He would play beautifully for a while, then he would kind of "zone out" and would seem to not know what song they were playing. I was sitting at the front of the stage next to McGriff during one of these episodes and Hank walked over to him and asked him what song they were playing...3 times...each time Jimmy yelled out "Summertime" and Hank would walk back over 10 seconds later and ask him again. But then he would click back into reality and just rip it up. One night Frank Wess came to sit in with the group, he ended up being the primary soloist because Hank was having a really hard time. I'm sure he didn't intend to play the entire set but he seemed truly concerned for Hank and helped him along.
  10. Yes, the earlier films (before they had a kid; a classic symptom of "Jumping the Shark") were a little more fun, as Nick and Nora partied non-stop. I would tend to agree, however The Thin Man Goes Home is one of my favorites. A very witty script by Robert Riskin and a classic Loy comedic performance.
  11. In addition to those... (you beat me to the post) Battle Stations (the first album they did together) Blues Up And Down (twofer contains Griff & Lock and Blues Up And Down) Lookin' At Monk (all Monk compositions) there's also Tough Tenors Again & Again on MPS (1970) and Tough Tenors Back Again on Storyville (1985?). Plus look for Two Originals by the Clarke/Boland Big Band. I also recommend the Dizzy Gillespie Big 7 at Montreaux (1975).
  12. As far as I know the job contains no calculations like these, they just want to find out how dumb I am. When it comes to math that's PRETTY DUMB! I was the kind of student in school who was in the highest level classes for all subjects EXCEPT math, which I invariably squeaked through with straight D's.
  13. what is an online "profile assessment" test for? sounds strange... Part of the job interview process with a potential employer.
  14. I'm afraid I won't know what the right answers are. It was one of the damn online "profile assessment" tests...so you never see your scores. I felt like getting drunk after that crock of...
  15. Thanks gang. What a major pain in the ass....I HATE MATH!!!!!
  16. Please, can anybody help me with the answers to these? I never understood this stuff.... (-17) - (-22) = 8 (6-5) + 10 = 4(-2)² + 8(-2) + 3(-2) + 6 = (1/3)(9)³ = -11(3/2)(.12(-12)) = 30 + (.0825 x 30) + (15% x 30) = 598% / 26% = 4/5 + 3/4 = THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!
  17. After many years of listening to Yes, I've finally decided that my favorite album is the very first one. I really like Peter Banks jazzy guitar leanings and the choice of cover tunes is intriguing. The remaster from a few years ago sounds excellent.
  18. There's the Coleman Hawkins session issued on Fantasy's "Bean And The Boys". Don Byas - Midnight At Mintons Bag's Groove
  19. It's 95 here, heat index around 105. Tomorrow it's supposed to be 100 with a heat index of 110. ARGH!
  20. Most of the additions have been on defense this year (primarily the secondary). They added safeties Deon Grant (Jaguars) & Brian Russell (Browns). They also nabbed Patrick Kerney from the Falcons. They also added TE Marcus Pollard to replace the ever-disappointing Jeremy Stevens. Darrell Jackson is gone, traded to the 49ers (Holmgren hated that the front office traded him to a division rival).
  21. Pisces is a nice change of pace date, but you should hunt down all the other ones first. I'm glad I have it, but it's my least favorite of the Griff/Lock albums.
  22. I'm hoping the Seahawks manage to escape the injury bug this year and make another run...
  23. Thankfully the afternoon rain shower cooled things off yesterday, it was blistering before that. Not quite as hot today but they're calling for it to be in the upper 90's for the rest of the week. Glad the swimming pool is only 20 paces from the back door....
  24. Double tall latte made on a home espresso machine...I'm getting spoiled.
  25. It's been a very nice day spent hanging out with good friends, you can't ask for more than that.
