  1. Seahawks defense appears to have some teeth this year...they knocked Cadillac Williams out of the game and also put a hurtin' on Jeff Garcia.
  2. I'm most definitely Ren...you EEDIOT!
  3. Colts looked exactly like I expected, polished perfection. The Saints just don't seem to have a rhythm yet, however I believe they'll get their mojo back and be a contender in the playoffs.
  4. Personally, I like the album but don't believe Henderson (who I adore by the way) is as good of a fit as many other players would have been. Nothing wrong with how he plays on it, he just doesn't sound especially inspired by the surroundings.
  5. I think people should have the right to look as stupid as they want too...
  6. the third person is 3 times gone. Shawn thinks that Aloc should feel free to talk about himself in the 3rd person as much as he wants. Shawn is all about freedom of expression...baby!
  7. Would love to see the Greyboy All-Stars sometime...I've seen Karl Denson a few times and the man puts on a SERIOUSLY great show.
  8. They are all excellent!
  9. ...I was joking.
  10. That looks interesting...
  11. Actually, the music business has ALWAYS been about money, the truly artistic achievements have been "happy accidents".
  12. Well I went crazy for quite a few years on the collecting bug...and now I have lots of CDs but also lots of debt. In the past year I've probably bought about 15 CDs (many used) and some downloads from emusic. Although there's still plenty of albums I'd like to own, I'm no longer feeling obsessed to the point where I MUST get them at all costs. I'm fairly happy with my collection right now and don't really feel the need to buy everything on a whim anymore. I have hundreds of titles in my collection that have only been played once, so there are still many saved up items to explore. I also stopped collecting DVDs, as the cost isn't worth watching something once a year or less. Now I just do Netflix and live with that.
  13. hmmm, I need to check the King Jazz CD I have to see how much is duplicated here.
  14. Falling Angel by William Hjortsberg. Man, this is a GREAT book and far superior to the movie version (Angel Heart).
  15. "Cthulhu for President; why settle for the lesser evil?" "Born Again Pagan"
  16. Mangione actually did some of his best work with Blakey.. Ever listen to "Buttercorn Lady"? Yes,, and that's not my point. Put another way, how many of us would list Chuck Mangione and Wynton Marsalis in the top ten of Art Blakey sidemen? I think the first ones to spring to my mind would be Benny Golson, Wayne Shorter, Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley and Curtis Fuller. But so many played with the Jazz Messengers...even Jackie McLean was with Blakey for a little while. Have to admit, though, that Mangione and Marsalis are probably the names most well known by the general public. Agreed. 90% of the general public have never heard the names of Golson, Shorter, Morgan, Mobley, etc. Hell, maybe 95% or better...
  17. I really like that session, in fact I probably have spun it more than Blues Walk.
  18. The commentary tracks on The Big Sleep are quite good (from what I remember), helping to clear up confusion around the alternate versions. Also liked the commentary by William Peter Blatty on The Ninth Configuration, detailing all the various production problems and editing changes that occured with that film over the years. Overall I'm not much of a commentary buff, I'm usually critic enough for myself.
  19. Anyplace is walking distance if you have the time...
  20. The show was FANTASTIC! Dr. Lonnie is friggin' force of nature and put on a very energetic set that clocked in a little over 90 minutes. He featured quite a few tracks from Jungle Soul and Too Damn Hot, as well as a couple new songs from his "forthcoming album". He's definitely still on top of his game and acts like a guy at least 20 years younger than he actually is. I was having too much fun to catalog a set list but a few highlights... "Just Squeeze Me"; slow ballad reading that ended up rather outside by the finale...I'd love a copy of this arrangement. "Sweet Dreams"; the Eurythmics song treated to a rather dark, moody arrangement. "Giant Steps"; blitzkrieg version of this one, the tempo was intense but the trio didn't miss a step (lol). "Orange Peel"; Yep, the Reuben Wilson tune...talk about F-U-N-K-Y! Lonnie crawled underneath the organ during this tune and played a bass solo on the pedals with his hands. "If U.C.K."; the encore which segued into "The Theme". He was hilarious as well, the very small but enthusiastic crowd was really into the whole experience. His trio is very tight and it was obvious they were having a great time. I tried to catch their names but never quite nailed it...the drummer's first name is Anthony (the last name sounded italian), the guitarist I have no idea but he was quite a good player. Go see him if you can!
  21. Found a used copy of "This is Billy Mitchell" from the LPR series.
  22. Get all of them...you won't regret it!
  23. I've never heard (or even seen) it. Is it really that bad? I've heard worse...but it's the only Turrentine Blue Note album I have that only got played once...and I'm a Turrentine fanatic.
