The sticking point between cable companies and NFL Network is that the cable companies want the channel to be a "premium" channel they can charge extra money for. The NFL wants the channel available to anyone with the expanded basic (analog) cable package at no additional charge to the customers. That's where it's sat for a few years now. Comcast announced their intention to move the channel into their "sports package", in response the NFL put a letter on their website telling people they should cancel their Comcast in protest and go with Directv.

Good L-O-R-D! Glad the guy was okay...but it furthers my opinion that if people were supposed to skate they would have been born with retractable wheels in their feet.

Jarrett is a whiny little bastard...it's my "privilege" to not buy any of his albums, pay for any of his concert tickets, give him any decent word of mouth or support him in any imaginable way. I'll reserve that right for people that deserve it.

Stan T: blues for del: the last 7 or so tracks of cd
Shawn replied to chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez's topic in Re-issues
Chewy, If you are enjoying the albums I highly recommend picking up this disc. The sound quality is far improved from the vinyl issues (the acoustic guitars for example have added presence and really leap from the speakers), this helps to augment Pearson's beautiful arrangements. The bonus tracks... Days Of Wine And Roses (same arrangement as Pearson's Now Hear This) - Turrentine really rips into this one, in fact "attacks" might be a better description, very nice Tyner solo as well. Come Back To Me - Nice mid tempo swinger (you can hear Turrentine's exclamations between phrases, pretty cool). Silver Tears - Lush, introspective ballad. Lovely use of bass clarinet in the ensemble passages, Turrentine's tone is gorgeous. A Bluish Bag - Nice groove number, similar in mood to The Spoiler. With This Ring - Another mid-tempo swinger, probably the least successful of the bonus tracks but it really picks up steam at the midpoint with some great Turrentine as usual. I can understand why the session wasn't released "on it's own", but there isn't a tune here that should have remained shelved. If you're a fan of Pearson & Turrentine this one is not to be missed. I'm very excited to hear the follow up disc mentioned in the liner notes. -

The Hank Mobley set, it's the first one I got and still the one I enjoy the most. -
Picked up Lonnie Smith's Jungle Soul...now I'm going to HAVE to get his other recent albums. Also broke down and ordered a used copy of Masters Of Reality - Sunrise On The Sufferbus.

Kenny & Hank are class personified. You CANNOT discount their careers or question their love of the music. Just because they didn't stretch boundaries doesn't mean they are any less the masters that they are. Put that in your corn cob and smoke the fucker. Happy Birthday to Kenny & Hank.

Finally picked this one up and it's damn near perfect (IMHO). Amazing groove, love the 2 guitar format...and Dr. Lonnie still lays it down like no other.

Shawn replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I've been using Firefox (Mozilla) exclusively since 2004 without any significant issues, I'd never go back to IE. Jazzmoose, are you sure the browser is the problem? What operating system are you on? -
Agreed, that's an awesome cover.

It took awhile for me to be able to fathom the late period stuff. But I think that was a natural progression with Trane, you almost have to study, absorb, dissect and analyze...then you can finally "let go" and just "let it be". When I first started listening to Trane (very early in my jazz adventure) I couldn't get past Giant Steps...then a short time later it was the Village Vanguard stuff that was a little "too much"...but you keep listening to the language and you eventually comprehend it. Then later I hit a wall with Quartet Plays, then hit a major one with Ascension. The song that really pushed me over the edge into the later Trane was Welcome, there was such immense beauty there, I felt like I was being literally transported. Not long after that I started voraciously listening to the post Tyner/Jones group and have never had a problem with any Trane since. But I've talked to plenty of people that never get past that 1965 group, but there's nothing wrong with that. If you don't feel it that's okay, stick with what moves you. But don't be afraid to go back and revisit from time to time, you never know when it might click...and when it does it can be some life changing shit.
