  1. He's featured nicely on Ellington Indigos.
  2. Somehow missed this thread. I have a friend who as a teenager hung with the Platters. (His license plate is "ONLY U".) I'll try to see if he was around for any of this and if he remembers Dolphy.
  3. I was at that concert and discussion. Good description of it. Very meditative.
  4. She played a 200 people club in Santa Barbara only a few years ago but then returned to play the 5000 seat SB Bowl a bit later on a double bill IIRC with the Tedeschi-Trucks Band. A great evening of music.
  5. Hope they're selling it. They could have sold a lot of Chico Freeman cds last night if they'd had them there.
  6. The documentary about The Wrecking Crew makes it clear that Barney was a major component of it. The Wrecking Crew, that is-- not necessarily this record.)
  7. Clint and Keith Richards are going to bury us all.
  8. Arrived in London to discover there is a large jazz festival on here. Saw double bill of Chico Freeman and The Cookers at Cadogan Hall last night. Lovely venue, respectful audience and great music. Saturday seeing Mike Westbrook solo.
  9. I first heard him in London 2 or 3 times (not sure which) in the summer of 1964. Hadn't heard of him before. Next time I saw him he was opening for Van Morrison a huge fan of his. Earliest record I have of him he's playing piano for Zoot and Al and there's no mention in the liner notes that he sings. An original. Not many of those around.
  10. The late great jazz photographer Herman Leonard took many photos of the late great Leonard Cohen some of which can found on his (Herman's) Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/hermanleonard/?pnref=story I suspect they were brought together by Cohen's frequent collaborator Sharon Robinson who's late husband was a collector of music photos. (Way too many "late"s in this post.)
  11. On Yom Kippur at my (obviously Reform) temple, the choir interpolated Who By Fire into the prayer that inspired it. BTW Are those Night Music shows available anywhere? IIRC Miles did one. And (also IIRC) Miles and Cohen were on the same episode of Miami Vice.

    Bob Dylan corner

As usual a lot of wasteful packaging. Why didn't they just slap the shipping label on the inner box?

    Bob Dylan corner

When it got down to $106 I pulled the trigger. Arrived today.
  14. This may have hurt more than Trump's win.
  15. Also the old version of "I Haven't Changed....." has what obviously should be the ending of "Summer Souvenirs.." edited onto it. (They talk about "Who did blow out..." and a apoken intro to "You Must Have Been.." that seems have been lost in the new versions. Do you have a Mac? I might be able to help. (A long shot of course.)
  16. Andy many more!
  17. Thanks for doing this. BTW Does that mean we should keep the old Summer Souvenirs?
  18. Is there any kind of consensus on what would be the best Earl Bostic cd to buy? (I've mentioned before that the only radio station in my home town-- which mainly played c&w) often featured Bostic's version of Harlem Nocturne.
  19. What's on Duke's Mixture?
  20. Wow a lot of John Lee Hooker and Jimmy Reed.
  21. I think it has to do with the titles being incorrect or in the wrong order. I had to rearrange them manually. I got the e-mail but haven't done anything yet as my playlist seems to be fine.
  22. Kenny Burrell entry is only for sessions he led.
  23. I saw Sonny Rollins once a decade for 5 decades and Bob was with him for at least three of them. I think I took him too much for granted. (You don't miss your water.......)
  24. http://www.ojaifestival.org/vijay-iyer-2017-music-director/ Vijay Iyer is music director of the nearby Ojai Festival 2017. Should I get excited? (I don't know his work but I did go there to see Maria Schneider a couple of years ago and it's a nice location.)
