Well it never arrived. But I just got an e-mail saying it would be shipped soon and should arrive between December 31 and January 3. Maybe by that time they'll announce volume 23.
Me three. I did suggest it to Scott once who IIRC he suggested that they would look into it. Most of those sides were released as singles weren't they?
Just listening to cd 1 which sounds fine to me. Mosaic sets often say where the source material comes from (e.g. acetates, '78s etc) but if it says in this booklet I can't find it. Anyone know? (Not that I would hear the difference.)
Amongst other treasures, by my count there are 6 cuts with Prez on clarinet. Until now I believe there were less than 30 extant recordings of him on the instrument so this is a substantial addition.
Volume 2 out next week. The one released track is great.

Same day Amazon says they're releasing Ellington Treasury Shows Vol. 22!
I have a vague memory of him taking some nice solos on a Hi-Lo's album. (Just realized how strange the spelling of their name is. An early example of the misuse of apostrophes (or "apostrophe's" as people would write today). While I lived in LA he often played around town and like a jerk I never went to see him.
it always bugged me that Peter Weldon's liner notes to the cd version of The Return of Art Pepper are built around putting down Sheldon. (And IIRC the mosaic select reprinted those notes.) I think his playing is just fine on those sessions.
And does anyone remember his tv show "Run Buddy Run".
So I asked him if he remembered many of the players and he replied: "The one I remember is a bass player who they called Red because he had red hair. He was there many times I attended esp. at the basement of Capital records in Hollywood."
Red Callender?
Read the Schulbergs many years ago (I think before I knew that Disenchanted was about Fitzgerald). At a Planned Parenthood book sale I found a paperback copy of Faces in the Crowd. Your post reminded me that I should read it.
Somehow missed this thread. I have a friend who as a teenager hung with the Platters. (His license plate is "ONLY U".) I'll try to see if he was around for any of this and if he remembers Dolphy.
