I'm very interested in the Miles Davis All Stars Live '58-'59.

They're pdf.s. Usually just copies of the booklet that come with the cd. Since there is no cd in this case maybe they'll do something more creative. You can keep them with the album or playlist in your iTunes folder or just store them somewhere else. If you burn a disc you can print them out to keep with it.

I just pre-ordered it ($9.99) and was able to download the first cut (Body and Soul). It's an AAC audio file which can be burnt to disc or easily copied as an MP3 file. But obviously you can't up-grade it. BTW If you find it on the iTunes store (I got it by searching for Coleman Hawkins) you can see what the rest of the 18 songs are as well as some nice pictures--one of whom is somebody I don't recognize. Any one able to identify them all?

"Savory "taped" the music? I don't think so. I believe the collection is all dubs on disc. My theory is that Savory was recording whole programs as part of his job and then made dubs of his favorite individual performances ( And despite those who want to to criticize his penchant for Benny Goodman he obviously had pretty good taste. ) BTW I hope they include the live version of Body and Soul I heard that was broadcast before the RCA side was recorded. (Or at least I think that was what I heard-- the version embedded in this story is a lot like what I remember. Maybe I read the date wrong.)

You're probably right. I was confusing the LP NUMBER (i.e. DETS 46) with the show number. But I suspect the Lps included the Roosevelt memorial that was on the first double cd and is not numbered as a Treasury show. I still think that leaves room for one bonus cd. Or maybe the liner notes for Vol 21 are wrong when they say the broadcast of July 27th was number 42. Ken Steiner doesn't give broadcast numbers that I noticed in his notes to vol 20 but vol 19 says the two broadcasts are numbers 36 and 37 though they were recorded over 3 weeks. As is often the case, I'm confused.

If I'm reading the New Desor correctly, there were 46 Treasury shows. Vol 21 takes us though number 42. So what's going to be on the next three double cds? Some nice bonuses I hope.

I like Lee Wiley from all decades (even the '70s) but I highly recommend you listen to her earlier work.

I sent them a minor correction once. Never heard back and the correction wasn't made.

And now when I tracked it they say it will arrive by this Friday!

I don't quite get the Lee Wiley comparison but because you wrote that I bought "Livin' the Blues" and I'm glad I did because of Benny Carter's trumpet playing. I don't know of another record (though I'm sure there are some) where he plays so much trumpet and I really like it.

Well they announced it as shipping last Friday, then they said it was out of stock. I just got an e-mail saying it would ship Tuesday, September 13, 2016 - Wednesday, September 28, 2016 Huh? I guess it's not coming from them.

I saw him when he toured with Paul Simon. Simon gave him a featured spot to play Bluesette.

Weren't top 40 stations everywhere? But I remember driving to Florida with my parents in 1958 and coming across a station that kept playing the top 10 over and over. Fortunately one if the hits was Chuck Berry's School Days.

And I suspect in the case of "Sometime's I'm Happy" an alternate take when Lps were issued.

I notice that the alternate take of the Keystone "Sometimes I'm Happy" on the new Mosaic Prez box set is 3:44 long. They did do a 2nd take that is faster and hence shorter but is this possible because the recordings were cut on a larger disc and then transferred? And why does the alternate take have "(BD)" after it's listing?

On election night 1992 I was in Washington working on "Dave". Some of the cast and crew ended up traveling from gathering to gathering as the results came in: The Democratic National headquarters, some group with Gloria Steinhem and finally at McLaughlin's apartment where we were when the first announcement was made that Bill Clinton had won. McLaughlin, who was a staunch conservative Republican, immediately got to his feet and proposed a toast to the new President of the United States. I didn't agree with most of his views but remember thinking that showed a lot of class.

Agreed on all these plus the music on the three French CBS Lps "56/62" .

How about the complete output of Mercer Records? (Though I'm not sure that would be enough to do a box.)
