These transfers are literally amazing (as in I was amazed). BTW IS there a thread for recommending YouTube postings?

IIRC (and I often don't) I sent someone on this board an Lp of a Morricone score for an obscure Italian movie called Allonsanfan. BTW Here's an interesting note from the LA Times Obituary: It was a 1960s recording made in Rome of the Woody Guthrie song “Pastures of Plenty” that launched Morricone’s international career. The seemingly incongruous mixture of sounds in the orchestration — surging violins, the crack of a whip, church bells, an electric guitar, an acoustic guitar, chimes and a chanting male chorus — so entranced Leone that he ditched his original choice of composer and hired Morricone to score what became 1964’s “A Fistful of Dollars. Here's a good companion article about his avant-garde work: https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/story/2020-07-07/ennio-morricone-dies-concert-music-songs

Another Mosaic Armstrong to come out this August.
medjuck replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Ricky Riccardi just posted the following on Instagram: Pops started recording “Louis Armstrong Plays W. Handy” on this date in 1954! Back in September, I posted a slew of videos of the transfer sessions for the Mosaic Records set I’m working on that will feature about 100 minutes of “Handy” bonus material. We had hoped that the set would have been out been out by now but alas, a pandemic hit in case you haven’t been watching the news. But BREAKING NEWS: our go-to, Grammy-winning engineer Andreas Meyer wrote to Mosaic’s Scott Wenzel last night to say that the final mastering sessions will begins this week! We’ve already finished the booklet and selected the photos so if the mastering goes smoothly, we could have a set sometime in the fall, and hopefully definitely by the holidays. This is not RCA material but Columbia material produced by George Avakian. (Is it possible this is what was being referred to?) -
COVID-19 III: No Politics For Thee

What about compassion for the people who died because of his beliefs? How many people do you think he might have infected before he was tested? What if he was sick when he went to the party? Read his posts. He spent a lot of time mocking others-- especially Black people. Do you feel compassion for suicide bombers? -

I hated episode 1 but got turned around with episode 2 mainly because of Tatiana Maslany. She's got more charisma than any actress I've seen in years. I guess I should watch Orphan Black. I think the story got better with 2 and 3 but though it's now obvious how and why Mason will become a lawyer I'm not buying that this is the Perry Mason from the books, movies or tv show. (Not that I've read or seen a lot of them.). Has anyone read that they set out to do a Mason origin story? Or did they have an idea for a plot that the grafted Perry onto? BTW Good music in it.

Thanks.

I suggested to Scott that they should make the Benedetti Bird collection available on-line, but he replied that it would be difficult to clear the rights.

A friend of mine in Toronto was driving cab one night and picked up Amram with Ramblin' Jack Elliot! One of the highlights of his cab driver career. He recently ( well, several years ago-- at my age everything is recent since Elvis died) did the music for a film a friend of mine made.

Duke's Jazz Violin Session: Alternates and False Starts?

I have a bunch of the Azure Tapes that were done by Sjef Hoefsmit. Let me check if i have that one. -
A bad morning: First I hear about Carl Reiner, then Johnny Mandel. I saw him lead a big band in a small local club a few years ago. My friend Ira Nepus was in the band and was kind enough to introduce me to Johnny. RIP

Best celebrity encounter I ever had: I went up to him once at an event and said I thought he and Mel Brooks were the funniest people alive and he acted as if he were completely delighted and nobody had ever said that to him before.

Oh, I didn't know that. I think I never heard them and always presumed they were like Weather Report (who's work I wasn't that familiar with either).

What Chick albums were his populist ones? Who was in the group?

What rock music are you listening to? Non-Jazz, Non-Classical.

I first read many of these stories 60 years ago. Most of them hold up.

Is that the one with liner notes by Nat Hentoff?

I once saw a a tv piece on Tommy Lipuma (sp?) in which George Benson told how great it was to find a producer who would let him sing. Is it possible that Nat, George and even Ramsey liked the kind of music that coincidently made them rich just as much as they liked playing jazz? Hangin a very little bit with Benny Carter I realized that he appreciated a much wider range of music than I did. (OTOH I remember reading a piece where someone talked about how embarrassed Wes was by his more popular later recordings.)
