  1. Billy Taylor at the London House HMV UK - elegant playing by the trio, just the right side of sentimentality , nice in small doses.
  2. Cecil Taylor- Live in the Black Forrest - MPS- (Germany). Stunning really. Sounds immense, almost too exciting. Lyons sounding particularly fine but it's a great group effort.
  3. The only I've got is the Giuffre set, sound was harsh and unforgiving .
  4. Gil Evans - Big Stuff - New Jazz (mono DG) with Zeke Tolin on alto
  5. GONDA SEXTET "Samanenek" /Shaman Song 1976 (Hungary) Ambitious album centred around a basic sextet of Piano/bass/ sax/guitar/percussion/drums. Vocals/chants on some tracks and trumpet & trombone & conga added to three.
  6. Area Code 212 is worth hearing , spinning it now.
  7. Got this yesterday mainly for the single track with Lucky Thompson but the other soloists such as Ted Curson, Leo Wright , Johnny Griffin etc all sound good in front of the Zagreb Big Band
  8. Harry Beckett's Joy Unlimited- Memories of Bacares OGUN rec 1976
  9. I've yet to be tempted significantly by this series. I have the Threadgill and it's excellent but I 'm not convinced that buying music by the kilo in this fashion does much for me. I listen to the single Nessa Air Cd more than the entire BS/SN set. I suppose that the Lacy and Konitz sets probably appeal to me the most but I have some of the contents already. The Russell also intrigues me as it's music I've avoided to date. Any strong recommendations on any of these??
  10. I've not visited JCS or AAJ in years, I get all I need here. It's a more respectful environment where we all know that Jim has no time for members "hand bagging' each other.
  11. This is exciting news. That means an extra CD to an already very promissing set. :) Scott didn't say anything about an extra CD and the website still lists 8 CDs, not 9. Maybe there was room on the 8 discs that were already planned. I might have been carried away by my enthousiasm. I looked to track listing again there is room for extra tracks especialy on discs 2,3, 4 and 7. Scott just confirmed it'll be 8 CDs, not 9. By the way, they're still awaiting clearance on the planned Lucky Thompson box. Do we know for certain that these tracks requiring clearance are additional to those already in the discography listed on the Mosaic site.??
  12. Jiri Stivin & Rudolf Dasek - System Tandem Koncert v Lublani Supraphon 1976 Jiri Stivin & Rudolf Dasek & Tony Scott- Rozhovory Supraphon 1981- joyful improv and some quite funny passages too. A surprise hit from the Oxfam shop. Dasek plays mean guitar, I should know his name better than I do.
  13. Tokyo Blues Horace Silver, NY stereo
  14. indeed , my LP edition sounds better slowed down to about 30 rpm, I find it hard to tell when I've adjusted the speed to the correct point !!!
  15. No issues at all , no CDs or LPs , get some.....
  16. I have the 13CD set version, it omits Paris and Amsterdam sets with Wilen, but it's a very good survey in largely very respectable sound.
  17. Elvin Jones- Midnight Walk - Atlantic (mono) Hmm the Mobe , Thad and Dollar Brand !!! , not up to Lion's standards but a great set
  18. Spirit - Twelve Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus- Epic
  19. ARNE DOMNERUS MED SIN ORKESTER MUSIK UNDER STJARNORNA (Music under the stars) RCA Sweden 1964 rec. reissued 1980 This is such a great record, Highly recommended

  22. Warne Marsh -Posthumous -Interplay, this is a good one, not on the same level as All Music but very good non the less.
  23. Particularly like Fresh Garbage by Spirit and Time of the season - The Zombies but it;s a pretty decent compilation from CBS 1968 I played both of these last night and found them both to be excellent, hard to choose
