  4. this site seems to have some decent information Duke Ellington
  5. I just picked up ( at Lon's suggestion) the 3 Cd "Early Ellington" Complete Vocalion/Brunswick - Decca recordings 1926-1929- this certainly would appear to overlap with this new JSP set. I had been wondering where the best place to get Dukes RCA and Columbia output prior to the Blanton Webster band. I guess the Duke Centennial box but it's oop and too expensive. The early Columbia material appears to some single and double CDs but I'm guessing these releases are incomplete. Perhaps the French Columbia and RCA -Jazz tribune vinyls are the way to go.... any thoughts....

  10. My two non-sequentially numbered sets arrived yesterday (one's for a friend). Very interesting material, it'll take real time to fully evaluate but it certainly seems significantly more than just a scrap book of unfinished ideas. The tracks with strings are very strong IMO.

    Clarence Profit

received this disc last week , on the first few listens Profit sounds very like Tatum especially on balads , perhaps a bit more adventurous though. Some tracks have a slight latin or caribean feel. The tracks with a washboard band have their moments too.!! Sound quality is adequate and the disc has nicely written liner notes. Glad I got it. A different seller at amazon.de is selling for over 20 euros ( I paid 8) which is quite steep but it's still worth it.
