  2. Jilted John- Jilted John Fletcher Henderson 1931- VJM No.63- quite good transfers
  3. The rounded plastic sleeves are a pain, always crinkling up as you try to slide them in.
  4. With these I couldn't tell the difference between the RVG and the old RMcM. Agree with Kevin regarding the VV Rollins, RVG is significantly better.
  5. Why deny his identity ?
  6. Not known to me personally but his work he especially on the earlier sides on this set could be better. Like a number of the Verve Elites he did the sound is a bit thin and trebbly, fine once you get used to it, but I was initially shocked as I'd expected audio to sound much thes ame as the Brownie Emarcy sides. None the less this is an excellent set. Recommended.

some have criticised the sound of the" Americans..." French Cd , it's hard sounding but acceptable enough, I love this hard swinging session.
  8. Disc 1 " Complete Verve Tal Farlow Concert Band Sessions" , lovely unassuming stuff. Think I'll stick to regular Mosaics from Mosaic from now on. Then again this euro set was very cheap at £62.
  9. agreed on both points, though I love "Teen spirit"
  10. Ok reputation ruining was a bit strong but I don't think the breakdown takes etc do Powell's memory any service. I too like Bud a lot.
  11. Well I for one am generally quite happy with what's held back or put out by MC. You only need to look at the reputation ruining Complete BuD powell on verve to see an example of inadequate quality control.
  12. what lable etc are these two ?
  13. This is an outstanding album , you won't regret it one minute. He's absolutely on top form on these sides. He played a lot with Getz ( check out Getz in Sweden 2CD on Dragon). Very good choice.

Picked this up last night at the Geri Allen/ Tom Bancroft concert in Edinburgh. Great sounding so far a little of Edward Vesala and a little Ra too. Very well recorded. The concert incidently was outstanding , tune into BBC Radio 3 23.30 this Friday to hear (most of) it.
  15. Not exactly a huge field but these two are excellent reedsmen. Now if we were talking best living triangle player under 50 years..........
  16. if age is no bar then................ Lee Konitz

  21. George Schuller's "JigSaw" is also highly recommended, all star cast, progressive yet accessible stuff
  22. CC works well for record companys. Since BN introduced its CC in mid 2003 I've bought just 3 BN CDs (last 16months approx). The preceeding 16 months saw five or six times that number snapped up by yours truly.
  23. The Black Lion CD of this sounds really muddy...
