  1. I love the Minor Swing DIW session, grooves as well as any of his BN output, I en!!!joy Zorns freak out
  2. the recent BBC radio broadcast of this band was underwhelming, if you gonna play groove music make sure it grooves !!!!
  3. Late entry: Ron Horton (FSNT) Subtextures; seriously good CD, part hommage to Andrew Hill and others but sounds like a fully realised mature statement. Great tunesand fantastic playing all round, Frank Kimbrough is dark wizrd at the keys especially when not trying sound like Hill. highly recommended
  4. I wonder if they will copy protect it. If the evidence so far is correct they will end with a pile of returns which in turn will lead to the dropping of this anti-consumer practice. ......... first part of an essay on the subject "Norah Jones is good for jazz..."
  5. I am not sure about this session. I rarely play it as it seems pretty dense stuff with none of the light crackle that his CBS Mosaic sessions or his stuff later on Muse. A product of its time I suspect but worthy of reinvestigation via AOW. Will spin it again.
  6. I was very disappointed with Bobby Previte's Counter-clockwise on Palmetto, crude stuff from such a fine leader

I have fond memories of seeing TC at the Glasgow Jazz Festival in 1994 (I think) Most of his set was broadcast on BBC Radio and is a treasured MD in my collection. A single track from this concert (Raise Four) appears on one of the Knitting Factory CDs in this set. The liners state that it was recorded live but don't give the location. I have some pretty good ( for amateur) B&W photos of the gig which pretty much drew me into living modern jazz ( as opposed to back catalogue stuff)
  8. For what it's worth I couldn't tell my Conn. of "Destination out" and the version on the Mosaic select apart. Both sounded fine IMO

I love the Thomas Chapin "Alive" 8 CD set, first class stuff and not that expensive either edited to correct Cd numbers.
  10. Live he introduced it as "Hey George". where you going with that...... Ok must play this one this weekend
  11. agree with you, I have Blood Sutra but haven't had time to play it yet perhaps this weekend. Anyone heard the new Pi Cd ?
  12. Can you tell us any more about this session, why ,where was it recorded? It sounds interesting. I 've been aware of it's existence for some time but couldn't find out much about it.
  13. What's the sound quality like, is it a distraction ?
  14. I am sure that I have read that KDs playing was erratic but I've never been disappointed by his work. So many good albums too hard to choose a favourite. Currently waiting for one of the Time CDs. Hope "Trumpet Toccata" will see the light of day as an RVG or Conn. Wouldn't it be amazing if the tapes for "Jazz Prophets" Vol 2 turned up....some chance...
  15. I had the TOCJ of this then appeared to lose it when I moved house, so I rebought at great expense. Only to find my original copy followed by its domestic release. So good I bought it twice. Still it's not as good as True Blue but it's an A rank BN session IMO
  16. I don't have the time, mores the pity
  17. Jim you have my full support, it's a great board.
  18. wasn't the owner in hospital with something fairly significant. I am sure I read this somewhere, perhaps Jazz Review re Ben Cree ?
  19. the criticism of Roy that I have read was that he resorted too easily to going OTT to out play his colleagues. Can't say I hear this one what I have heard to date. This set surely looks like a good way to find out
  20. I thought the DeLorean was more of a coupe than an estate
  21. How is this one ?

    Lenny Tristano?

This set is wonderful, no flat spots at all IMO

Reissue of the year IMO, in a tough year too with excellent Mosaic Selects and miles at the Blackhawk and Pee Wee on Impulse. This just shines from start to finish.
  24. Speaking of Marsh, there are few lines in Jazzreview (Dec 03) suggesting that Lee Konitz is to consider relaseing some previously unheard tapes together with Warne from 1977. Anyone else know any other details.
  25. forgot that one , it's very good
