  1. received thsi from Chuck last week and have been spinning it plenty, looking forward to views, this is a very interesting opus
  2. is "Redds Blues" worth bothering about to get extra Tina ?
  3. my correction to the organissimo url is printed on the letters pages of this months edition of Jazz Review.
  4. much as I like "Charmediterranéen" but I find that 'Round About A Midsummer's Dream' is the better record. The Hendrix like guitar sounds sooo good with the baroque influences.

  6. was this a double LP when it was originally issued as the CD is quite lengthy.

    Vijay Iyer

CDUNIVERSE have this available for preordering but descibe it as a SACD only. Anyone know if this is correct. Iyer is a fantastic pianist however I am not prepared at present to by a SACD palyer just to hear this disc however good it might be. I can't find an "Artists House" web site to check any of this out.
  9. I have the 4CD set from a few years ago. I find myself listen to it in little bites and often wondering why I dont know the material better than I do. I can understand the concerns re "Chug chug" but sometimes thats just great to listen to. The Annie Ross sides don't do much for me though. I spun it the other night after the CJB materials and the original 4tet did seem limited by comparison. That said it sometimes just hits the right spot. ( of my left cerebral hemisphere)
  10. Mulligan CJB Mosaic- VG+ Fred Anderson- Missing Link- double wow stuff
  11. The Diz and Bird disc and our Chuck's Warne Marsh disc- must be due it's past August. Chuck what's the word?
  12. I order 2 CDs at a time keeping the cost of the discs below $28 which easy enough with new releases at CDUniverse, that avoids customs charges which, once were as high as £8 for an order valued at just over the £18 limit !!! Still works out as around £11.30 for each Conn.or whatever and all faster than any of the online retailers here in the UK and as Claude points outthe Conns aint crippled. I am waiting on the Hill and another disc by SYOTOS band - Trouble in Paradise.
  13. Any one know the provinance of the KD Time CDs being offered by Fresh Sounds in Spain, they look interesting but I have worries regarding their legitimacy and sound. Anyone tried these yet. The Booker Little and Roach titles are also tempting too. http://www.freshsoundrecords.com/newreleases.php
  14. Just received the Mulligan set, selling pretty well , my copy is number 810 !!! in just a few short days. Sounds wonderful, plenty of energy on what I've played so far.
  15. I can't bear this waiting....no sign of my copy from CDUniverse yet.....
  16. Clifford Brown BN Memorial Album ( late 80s CD) , all tracks are incorrectly titled on CD insert, CD tray..... ( essentially they mixed up the two sessions)
  17. Can't say the Birdland Blakey dates sounded any different to my ears. The Rollins Vanguard session on the other hand was significantly better on the RVG version. I had hoped for a Monk/ Powell RVG transformation but was disappointed that the RVG Birdland discs really didn't sound much better.
  18. I too checked out the other Chicago thread hoping to learn a bit more about AACM etc only to be reminded of the 70s soft rock band I would rather forget. I was really put off this period and musicians for many years believing incorrectly that the music was inaccessible noise. This was based purely on prejudice so gradual exposure to more avant jazzers of today lend me back to this AEC stuff. Helped in no small measure by the contributions Chuck here. I bought "Snurdy" out of bizarre sense of duty only to find out that it is one of the best CDs in my entire collection. So 6 months later the AEC Nessa box has arrived courtesy of the Mosaic sale and I am slowly delving into it. Thanks Chuck for pointing out a new direction in my listening.
  19. What was wrong with Schapps Ellington at Newport. I thought it sounded terrific compared to the previous CD version. Have to confess I dont listen much to the extra material.
  20. I am holding off ordering any new EMI CDs from whatever country until it is clear whether they are copy controlled or not. If the word is that these Conns or next years RVGs are copy controlled in both US and Europe that'll probably be the end point of my BN/ pacific/Roulette CD purchasing. I wont buy this new format however tempting the morsels might be. !!!!
  21. One of the first jazz concerts I ever attended was Bangs quartet with Lowe in 1988, some time after they had recorded Valve No 10. Lowe was an imposing presence. It was an eye opening concert leading me to rush out to buy all the Bang I could. ( not much was available but finally found Live at Carlos 1). Much later Valve No. 10 was released and Lowe is in fine voice. The Flam is also pretty good too but havent played it for sometime as my turntable is sick !!!! must get it mended...
  22. What should the Von-less buy ??
  23. I found this helpful, I use an edirol USB Ua1D lead to take digital output from my minidisc player ( monitoring turntable ) , works perfectly and isolates the A/D convertor in the MD unit form any interference from the PC hardware.
  24. Pity about getting the name wrong, he's only a journo after all but his take on the emphasis of musical values held by the board is pretty valid. Hardbop is where I started and all things are measured from there as a starting point. Let's hope he's not right and that we aren't in fact total anoraks !!!
  25. Page 5 full low down, even if they do misunderstand us you're famous way to go !!!!
