The music on the Lateef is excellent . The sound is no better or worse than other recordings from Ronnie's by Les Tompkins. My pressing seems fine - just a few possible pops but I've not listened closely enough to determine whether these reflect the pressing or tape source .
Yusef Lateef ------Live at Ronnie Scott's ------( Gearbox/Ronnie Scott's)
January 1966 date with the locals. Sound is adequate but the playing is way better.
RIP. Once I'd got my ears around his delivery I loved his music. Saw him once at a small hotel basement bar in Edinburgh. I'd actually gone along to see Sweets Edison who was taken ill thereby missing the gig . 7th son !!
Dexter Gordon ---- One flight up------( BN) Cisco audiophile edition.
Very good sound on this beautifully haunting date. I always fine it tough narrowing down LTD's best Blue Notes but this has to amongst the runners.
Mine too. GI Records on Raeburn Place was a record shop I recall from my youth. It's just around the corner from where I live now. Pressing quality of the Wallington is just ok IIRC.
Agree- I was more than surprised when I stumbled on this a few years ago. Revised my opinion upwards on Liebman. I now consider him both cool and original , previously neither.
Rudolf Dasek-------- Mezipristani Interlanding------(Supraphon)
Quartet with Andrew Cyrille and the incredibly talented ( on this evidence ) Karel Ruzicka on piano. Highly recommended
Evan Parker's - as the wind and the Giuffre double arrived today.
Both excellent releases. I'm no Parker expert but I can see why he's so pleased with this release. I only had one of the Hat discs so this new edition brings lots of new music. The sound is exceptional btw.
It's hard to judge the deal offered and indeed probably not fair to pass too much comment as it only details some of the total costs. Nonetheless it appears pretty transparent and clearly plenty of artists have signed up to Leo over the years. Presumably the catalogue has become so extensive because the financial risks are shared between artist and label. Can't imagine anyone making a boatload from any Leo release.
Various artists --------- New Orleans Today Volume Two-------(77 records )
tracks from Kid Thomas, Peter Bocage, Dee Dee Pierce. Recorded 1962-1964. Some spirited playing even if fidelity can be a touch uneven.
