The House that dripped blood- really freaked me as a 12 year old. Not seen it since but it had a powerful effect, I didn't realise he was in it. IIRC it was broadcast as part of "Tales of the unexpected " presented by Roalf Dahl.

As a child I was convinced he was the embodiment of evil once i'd seen "The Man with the golden gun". Three nipples !! He always came across as true gent and real character. I wonder if he tired of being typecast.

Likewise, great music and cover art too

Very sad as with all the passings we mention here. Ornette really was a giant of the music. RIP

NP Indo-British Ensemble------ Curried Jazz-----( MFP) 1969 Kenny Wheeler one side with Leon Calvert the other. Sitars and tablas to the for. Very much of its time but a good listen.

I've been on the look out for this for years, finally pulled the trigger from Discogs (my first ever order). Decent price, I'm delighted to have this good session. I knew it already from web-sources but it's nice to have a physical copy in great condition. I'm slowly closing in on having all of LT's official recordings in some format or another. A number of obscure Parisian releases from 1957 are likely to continue to be allusive.

LF Roberto Ottaviano, Six Mobiles – Mingus: Portrait In Six Col
Clunky replied to NIS's topic in Offering and Looking For...
International shipping is pretty crazy whatever direction the shipment is going. It can't help small labels. Amazon market place traders somehow keep their charges low. Perhaps they have to absorb the costs. I'd expect Marco at Jazzos to be charging shipping at cost. It's been a while since my last order but he's alway been efficient and reliable. -
LF Roberto Ottaviano, Six Mobiles – Mingus: Portrait In Six Col

Jazzos website lists it as obtainable but not in stock (€15). I've ordered from them in the past and had first class service (in English!) -
If anyone can comment on the SHM-CD versions Kenny Dorham's , Afro-Cuban and Whistle Stop , these are both favourites which I have only as RVG discs. As RVGs Afro-Cuban sounds pretty good but Whistle Stop sounds a little airless. Any comments comparing would be appreciated. I'd go for either if the sonics were clearly better but probably not if the benefits were more marginal. Any thoughts??

Teo Macero with Prestige Jazz Quartet---------Teo------(Esquire) Imaginatively titled it may not be but it's a decent session. Somewhat sinister sounding with ghostly vibes and Teo sounding as if he's only just controlling his sax.

Kid Ory-----This Kid's the greatest-----(Good Time Jazz/ Vogue) UK 1962 issue Compilation of Ory's organisation (1953-1956). I've played this four or five times and it's good.

Don Cherry--------Complete Blue Note------disc 1 -
Next Don Cherry----------Symphony for Improvisers-------(BN) Liberty mono It's a good record but I think I prefer Complete Communion.

Bud Powell------------At the Blue Note cafe 1961---------(Fontana-ESP) UK Bud in good form even if the piano is need of a little attention. Decent stereo recording , I'm so used to lo-fi Bud that this was a nice surprise.

The liner essay refers to the original album as "Our man in Paris " in places and at other times "Our Man in jazz " . There is no analysis of the music rather an essay around the group 's itinerary and Sonny's song book. A scathing review from DB is reprinted.

John Carisi ---- The New Jazz sound of Show Boat------(Columbia) Guitar 'choir ' plus Phil Woods. Carisi on trumpet. Interesting arrangements but ultimately not really too challenging. Carisi plays delicately but it's the massed guitars you tend to remember.

Sonny being off mike all too often surely must have been a factor in the delayed release in what is otherwise superb material

I've stopped buying Xanadu vinyl because pressings can a little iffy as noted above. Generally the music rises above the occasional pop and crackle. They certainly aren't the worst pressings and generally are pretty cheap. I'd say if you are interested in the music and the price is right they are entertaining and generally worth it.

Thanks for this recommendation, Jazz piano legacy is on Spotify, I enjoyed it so much I picked up the CD.

LOL! Now Amazon has Chuck's table on sale for $219.99. I'm going to have to think about this. http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-AT-LP120-USB-Direct-Drive-Professional-Turntable/dp/B002S1CJ2Q That's a pretty incredible price.
