  1. Glad to hear it, Bruce!
  2. Jam/Hang/Eat/Drink/Hear music/Buy music. Period. Can you imagine a bunch of board members descending upon Dusty or JRM simultaneously? It'd be like Best Buy on Black Friday.
  3. I really don't see a problem with this, because as Al said, it is (or should be) more about nurturing the concept of giving and generosity (which can become a part of the child's persona, not just a holiday thing).
  4. This might not be the optimum time to get a lot of responses, what with people taking off for the holidays and all. I'm up for it, but it may be a little short notice for some- I know I've already booked much of the first half of next year. Some folks might need a little more time to plan for it. I hope it works out, though! If it comes together I'll make every effort to attend.
  5. If not Trane, then......
  6. * *courtesy of 7/4
  7. IIRC (if i remember correctly) IMHO (in my humble opinion) BTW (by the way) STFU (figure it out yourself, it's my new favorite )
  8. How long (if at all) did you believe? I can remember the exact moment when my sister told me the truth, I think I must have been 8 or so. I remember it being one of the first loss-of-innocence reality moments (and disappointments) of my life. We always left cookies and milk, the whole routine. Do those of you w/young children go through this routine? I remember the thrill of standing in line to see Santa at the big department store. I wonder who these men unto whose laps I anxiously climbed REALLY were! Ever have a friend or relative who regularly did the Santa routine for your family (accoutrements and all)? While a grad student at UT Austin I was hired to be Santa (through a music booking agent, another great moment as a professional trombonist) for the kids of the workers at IBM. There were A LOT of kids, many of whom were terrified, and it was a long, long day (and HOT under the makeup, beard and outfit). I was a ho ho HO.
  9. You should try my Spicy Asian Salmon Chocolate Chip Cookies!
  10. 170 CDs! Mozart was one prolific dude.
  11. Bacon, lettuce and tomatoe?
  12. A couple earlier instances that come to mind are "The More I See You" from Roll Call and "Blues For Duane" from Hub of Hubbard. The Blues For Miles session was a pretty late one, after his serious chop problems were in full bloom. The harmon mute is a good way to deal with a weak open-horn sound, which sadly I believe was the reason he did the whole session muted.
  13. I heard he can "circular putt".
  14. Hey, Richard Benjamin! I remember Quark! Remember the show he and Paula Prentiss had- wasn't it called "He & She"?
  15. I've always been a little creeped out by the nutcrackers. I use to have nightmares about them.
  16. I know. Probably sold more w/the wrong samples.
  17. OK, 'fess up, who's got one of these in their yard? ....or one of these.... Mmmmmmmmmmm!
  18. I like singers just fine and (as a instrumentalist) I believe in being aware of the lyrics to tunes, especially ballads. I'm not a fan of singers "scatting" (with a few exceptions). The majority has little or no concept of swing, melody, rhythm and ESPECIALLY chord changes.
  19. This thread caused me to beef up my Lockjaw section. A nice package from Newbury arrived today, fast as always. However......... One of the CDs (Jaws in Orbit!) had a cut-out hole in the jewel case that I could immediately tell went clear through to the disc. So I emailed Newbury, I guess I'll see how their customer service is. I'm expecting that it will be good. (also got Afro-Jaws, Bacalao, Cookbook Vol. 2 and Tenor Giants (W/Zoot)..so I ain't complainin')
  20. I saw this on CNN- they apparently had cameras in the home when the good news came. Kind of an invasion of privacy (glad it was GOOD news) but it was nice to see the happy reaction. It seems like stories like this too often have a sad ending. Nice Christmas for that family!
