  1. Wow!! $3.75 for a 3-CD & 1-DVD box set with shipping! Thanks! :tup Now the price is 34.95 $. Yeah, I ordered it as soon as I read VanB's post and just got an email saying my order was voided/canceled.
  2. Especially on Shiny Stockings. That cut is ridiculous good.
  3. Great news, Bruce. Glad to see you back here. Maybe you'll be the one to post #1,000,000!
  4. Too bad you won't be here on October 23rd- I'm playing at a local club with the FSU faculty rhythm section and fellow trombonist John Fedchock (who will be in town to perform with the FSU big band). There are actually a couple clubs here now- one called B Sharp's (where I'm playing) which is run by Clarence Seay and his wife Gerry. Clarence is a bassist who's played with Billy Harper, among others. Also, there's a new place called the High Five that just opened. Things are definitely better than they were when I moved here. I just went to the Bradfordville Blues Club a couple weeks ago- glad I used my Garmin to find it, it's literally in the middle of nowhere. Overall, though, not a lot going on either here or in J'ville.
  5. A sublime artist, both playing and writing. My favorite jazz compositions, they are TIMELESS!
  6. As DukeCity and I have said before, the best smelling man in jazz. Best wishes for a rapid and complete recovery.
  7. Vonski sure can play them blues.
  8. Flambone® ...brought to you by the good folks at
  9. 1958, right time frame for the show!
  10. Good way to start my Monday (first day of classes).
  11. Thanks for posting this, although I don't think I've set foot in any Borders for at least six months. I used to go there all the time.
  12. I'm looking forward to it. I'll be interested to hear how the arrangers treat those complex tunes.
  13. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to see a label putting out trombone recordings, but maybe they should put a little more thought into their covers. Doesn't help that all parties have the same requisite jazz facial hair.
  14. Naming just one, Bird. Next is Cannonball. No question. Glad I get to listen to 'em all though. No question about that either.
  15. Absolutely. You could tie a boxing glove onto the slide (great at parties), or when you get tired of it you can make it into a lamp.
  16. I got some of the Pepsi. It's OK, no huge epiphany for me. I do like the retro packaging though. Back to the 60s........simpler times.....(cue flashback harp arpeggio)........
  17. I know Ed and have a lot of respect for him. He's very smart and articulate, he's a good teacher and most important he plays his ass off.
  18. If consistency is not an issue, you can probably an average sound together in fairly short time, although the quality of the tone may not make for a good recording. I would recommend starting on a valve trombone- gaining good slide technique and intonation on a slide trombone WILL take time and effort.
  19. Replied. The Proper Angel is on hold. I like that one, great version of Milton Nascimento's Don Quixote, among some other nice tunes. Also, the title is "The Proper Angle".
  20. They make arrangements to have a borrowed or rented bass brought to the venue. This is pretty common practice, and of course the downside is that sometime the quality of the instrument can be inferior. Most bassists that do this have specifics outlined in the contract, or they know of trusted sources in the area. It sounds like a bit of a crap shoot, but when one owns an instrument worth as much as a good bass, it's not an option to put it in the hands of the airline.
  21. I learned this lesson the hard way long ago- always decide on price before you do the work!
  22. How about married ones?
