  1. Leave of Absinthe = contrafact on Lullaby of the Leaves Love those clever Jimmy Knepper titles. And yes, what a magnificent sound he had. Thanks for posting this, Rod!
  2. You mean this? I can do that for awhile.
  3. Yes, it truly seems to be my density.....er, destiny.
  4. The tune "Blue Trombone" is a prime example of JJ's compositional style of improvising- it's a long blues in F and each chorus has a specific motive which he develops. I've transcribed it and have had several students do the same over the years. It's a great lesson in making a solo be "about" something. And the cover is totally cool as well. I have it on the Mosaic but had to buy a copy of the single when it was reissued just to have that cover. Wish I had that one on LP!
  5. I've got that video- it's an hour long variety special, Maynard is the host and has several costume changes. All sorts of music- Maynard's band plays several tunes, there's some pop group and classical guitarist John Williams. It's a crazy time capsule from 1970. There are also some clips and interviews from late in MF's career. I really like it.
  6. Great side. Essential JJ IMO.
  7. Frank Rosolino. He was in his playing prime in '78. Plus if he'd have been around longer maybe he could have avoided the tragic ending. Who knows.
  8. Still don't see it on Amazon.
  9. It would have been interesting to see what Dick Twardzik might have done had he lived longer.
  10. Hope it was a happy one, Tom!
  11. The first names that immediately came to mind were those two. I just wonder if Clifford had been around longer how he might have gotten into some new territory. I mean, he was hanging out with Eric Dolphy!
  12. The stack of records in the case in the lower left side of the photo, third one from the left is Money Jungle. Slight scratch on track 2.
  13. OK, did we really have to see THAT?
  14. Kenny G is EVERYWHERE. As are bedbugs.
  15. Happy Birthday, Glenn!
  16. This is actually a positive Paypal story. Today I got an email from "Paypal" saying that there was a pending payment to CompUSA for $200 and that if I thought the charge was not legitimate I should follow the link to "my Paypal account" which included me signing in w/my password. I was suspicious and called Paypal- they said it was indeed a fraudulent email. The email looked very legitimate but I'm always suspicious when asked for passwords or other personal info. I never sign on to accounts via a provided link, I always open a new window and use my own link to check on my accounts. This crap sure makes one paranoid about trusting any emails. I just assume everything is fraudulent.
  17. Most musicians I know (myself included) ALWAYS take their instruments with them and NEVER leave them in a vehicle. A lesson learned the hard way for her, unfortunately.
  18. That one reminded me of this, which also works in this thread. Apologies if it's already been posted.
  19. On the topic of anecdotes, is there an Ammons bio?
  20. Looks great! I'll definitely be picking that up. Thanks for the heads-up!
  21. Banjos terrify me. How about clowns playing the banjo?
