  1. In any walking swing feel it's critical that the quarter note bassline and the ride cymbal pattern hook up, and IMO Dunlop & Ore achieved that, which created a solid swinging foundation for Monk's explorations.
  2. Great news! Congrats! Great to see my friend from Austin Suzi Stern get some attention. She is a talented vocalist.
  3. Wow, heartbreaking loss for the Jazz tonight.
  4. Very cool video. Thanks for posting it. It makes me happy, nostalgic and sad all at once. (sad because of the demise of so many great vinyl stores that I used to spend so many hours in)
  5. Saw it today. It was fun eye candy, but I thought the script was pretty weak. Not really sure what the point of Scarlett J.'s character was. Mickey Rourke was about the most engaging presence on the screen. I hope they can do better next time. If you do go to see it, make sure to stay for a bonus scene after the credits- a hint of what is to come.....
  6. I bow to your superiority! Yeah, I'm probably going to hell anyway, so WTF.
  7. Let this be a lesson- be careful when you cross, lest you get nailed.
  8. Some good candidates, although I always think the question should read "of the choices given", and I'd likely pick one of the given choices, although we mustn't forget: Harry Carney Lars Gullin Cecil Payne Joe Temperley Hamiett Bluiett Gary Smulyan Scott Robinson Nick Brignola ....and of course, our very own Duke City (Glenn Kostur). He laid down a few choruses at a concert we did two weeks ago that were truly burning.

I KNEW you wouldn't let me down, Paul! Glenn's been "anointed" too.
  10. It's time. GRILL BABY GRILL! Finally, time to get to the first project for the season: slow smoked boston butt.....pulled and served on a bun w/slaw (with Gates BBQ sauce). Rainy for the next few days, hopefully I'll do it on Thursday or so. Come on down for a sammich y'all!
  11. Jim, I am so effin disappointed I was out of town when you were in Tally last Friday. Ironically I was closer to your neck of the woods (in PA) then I have been in a while. I'm sure you were tearin' it up. Did you have a good crowd? EDIT: I see you're scheduled for Nashville on Friday. Think it's still gonna happen(because of the flooding)?

  15. Can anyone tell me who/what is on this one? Thanks. Can anyone tell me who/what is on this one? Thanks. EDIT: answered my own question, here How is the quality? And the additional material?
  16. Sad to hear this. I enjoyed his writing and his ensembles.
  17. Courting some young lady in the audience perhaps?

  19. That reminded me of some of those Playboy jazz polls- Paul McCartney on bass, Edgar Winter on sax, Chuck Mangione on trumpet, etc.
  20. Chicken smoked/grilled with Jack Daniels wood chips and sauce, grilled asparagus and sweet corn. And vodka.
  21. Can't choose a single favorite. There are so many great ones for different reasons.
