  1. Wow, that's very sad. So sorry to hear about his passing. RIP.
  2. There's a little bit o' Jimmy in every bite.
  3. Walt & Joel Weiskopf Bill & John Allred Steve Stewart (great midwest-based trombonist) & Bill Stewart Jon & Kim Park
  4. In the 80s Woody's band did some jazz cruises on the SS Norway- they were produced by Hank O'Neal of Chiaroscouro Records. They were lots of fun- in addition to playing our own sets, we backed up players like Dizzy, Clark, Al Cohn, Jake Hanna, Cab Calloway, Joe Williams, Mel Torme and many others. It did provide an opportunity to spend time up close & personal with these artists (you should have seen Dizzy puttin' away the BBQ), plus we would hang with crew members who knew some great "insider" spots on the ship and in the various ports (away from the touristy stuff). A week or two was plenty, though- I don't think I could stand to work on a cruise ship. If you are an employee there are all sorts of rules to keep you separate from the passengers. I think this Mosaic cruise would be big fun, just a little too pricey for me.
  5. Got to love those Dusty Groove folks.
  6. That's a scary looking lineup! Wish I could hear them!
  7. I like that word. Dickish. Dickesque. Dickaciousness. Dickensian. Oh wait, that last one's real.
  8. Welcome to the board Tom Cat (a favorite Lee Morgan side of mine)! Lots of love for Tina Brooks here. Here's one thread, and if you use the search feature you'll find several additional threads. Tina Brooks
  9. No, he isn't. Ron Holloway is a lot younger than Red. Ron got his start playing with Gil Scott-Heron in the eighties. He's not bad, but he doesn't have a big enough sound for my taste. MG Ah, I see- Red is James Holloway.
  10. Sounded promising until the last name on the list. So Red Holloway is actually "Ron". Didn't know that.
  11. RIP John Wooden. A class act all the way.
  12. Not sure, but it's not valid at any of the Arizona Borders.
  13. Use them online: http://www.borders.com. I guess my point is that Borders doesn't really have much anymore that interests me. As far as DVDs and books, as mikelz777 said, the coupons reduce from FULL retail so the deals aren't particularly competitive with online options. The 40% coupon is about the only one I pay attention to, and the last time I went to use one I couldn't find anything I wanted. I used to go to Borders to for music and would usually browse the rest of the store and often pick up a couple impulse items. I miss browsing CDs- it's not nearly as much fun online.
  14. Recent recording w/John Allred. Very nice session, swings hard.
  15. It's funny, I used to jump on these coupons. I don't even go to Borders anymore.
  16. I was in Austin at the time. Maybe it was a Texas phenomenon.
  17. Every time I see this one it looks like she's a spider.
  18. So a question for those who still have CDs purchased in the 80s- have many (or any) shown any signs of degrading?
  19. I resisted for a while. I remember when they started to become available (mid 80s)- I was on the road with Woody's band and most of us were still hauling around Pro Walkmans and cassettes (!). One of the guys got a CD player and some discs- it seemed initially to be a technical novelty but it was very cool. The thing that got me started was when a huge number of Blue Note cutout CDs appeared at a mall record store (I think it was Camelot) for $2.99 each. They all had a notch cut in them, but there were so many of the good BN titles available I caved and that was it.
  20. I would do the same but unfortunately they have all been removed. Edit: Not quite all, but most
