  1. Happy Birthday Conn! Hope you get to have a piece of delicious cake!
  2. The Browns beat New England? Where's SS1, he needs to celebrate!
  3. I got this one too- I never use the provided log-in link on these things. I logged onto my account and saw there were no problems or unauthorized charges, then I emailed Paypal and they confirmed that this was a phishing email. Pretty clever one I must say. I tend to be fairly paranoid about "business" emails I receive, and it usually pays off.
  4. Happy Birthday, Paul!
  5. "The researchers hooked thermometers to the scrotums of 29 young men who were balancing a laptop on their knees." Now THAT'S what I call a PARTY!
  6. Sad news. I remember her 70s movies very well, mostly because that's when I was working as a projectionist (my high school job). Unmarried Woman, Semi-Tough, Starting Over, Gable & Lombard (remember that one?) and Silver Streak, which I still like to watch. RIP.
  7. at least u can laugh about it! Thankfully, I can laugh about a lot of things these days, but that isn't one of them quite yet.......
  8. Sammy Spear was a trumpet player who became a conductor, and IIRC he was leading the orchestra but not playing for the theme "Melancholy Serenade".
  9. The weirdest thing about this thread is reading my posts from 2003 when I was still *happily* married and talking about my *wife*. THAT sure seems like a million years ago. Guess I got tattooed pretty good!
  10. I have that same calendar and heartily agree with you!
  11. I also had this on cassette ages ago. I realized I didn't have it on CD, so I just ordered a copy. It is an excellent session.
  12. James Moody battling cancer Sad news. Thoughts & prayers are with him.
  13. Colts could use him tonight. With Dwight Clark out there's not much for Peyton to work with.
  14. They forgot one important quote: "You want fries with that?"
  15. Grover Washington "Winelight" & "Just the Two of Us"
  16. Mr. French Seigfried Patato Valdez
  17. Great- thanks, Bertrand!
  18. At the site it mentioned this documentary would be "coming soon to DVD". Anyone know if this ever happened? I haven't found it anywhere.
  19. You remind me of a Basie Roulette that wasn't included in the Mosaics -- "String Along With Basie" (Roulette 500013, from '59/'60). It was 'kind' without being weak in any way. Can't be weak with Ben Webster on one of the sessions! Admittedly, it wasn't with the band, but it WAS a Basie record, and a darn good one, that to my knowledge has never been on CD. Or has it? Anyone here know? Amazon
  20. What did I miss? Why would we not be here without the moon? If we didn't have an unusually large natural satellite to stabilize us, the Earth's orbital inclination would wobble drastically. IOW, our axis of rotation would wander all over the place, sometimes tilting by as much as 90 degrees, and back again, unpredictably. The climate, consequently, would be a chaotic mess. In the unlikely event that humans managed to evolve under such conditions, there'd be no chance that civilization could develop. So getting hit by that Mars-sized hunk of junk four-plus billion years ago is the best thing that ever happened to us, in a certain sense. You know, it's really a wonder that we're here at all. Just amazing. It's good to remind ourselves of that fact every now and then.
